My personal collection of ideas, models, concepts, beautiful theorems, links, amazing talks, videos. The thread is an attempt to integrate those things in one place. Or perhaps also monitor what I am consuming. Feel free to indulge, it will keep growing:
Buganda and Baganda would be the last people to be accused of tribalism. There is no tribalistic Muganda. That kind of Muganda doesn't exist. It is just not in the nature of the Baganda. I have not seen a tribe or region more accepting like the Baganda and Buganda.
Buganda is probably the most sophisticated Kingdom in the whole world. The Buganda system is so deeply organised that the only way one can uproot it is by killing every Muganda. But even that would not succeed, because anyone can become a Muganda and anyone can also lose it.

When my father was alive, our home used to receive a minimum of 10 visitors a day. Post his death, the home could barely register a visitor in a quarter. I spent a lot of time studying my father's life; his mistakes, and best practices. I learned from his life.
Buganda is the heart of Uganda. If Buganda cries, Uganda cries. If Buganda is happy, Uganda will be happy.
And for Buganda, the Kabaka is the heart beat. The most important person in Uganda is "the Kabaka of Buganda." Since Independence, it is the Kabaka who defines Uganda.
Cafe Javas doesn't sell food. It sells the experience of quality, respect, comfort and a serene environment. Cafe Javas sells the idea that every human deserves to be treated with dignity. They disguise this with the food and drinks they sell!
If you learn this, you can brand!
Ugandans have mastered the language of silence. Unfortunately many misunderstand this language. In law, silence is often confused with consent. Yet, Silence is a far more superior language than the spoken. It is the language of choice in a hostile environment.
For some reason, most Ugandan geniuses end up in rehabs. There is something about the Ugandan system or perhaps life in general that doesn't allow them to thrive.
Or perhaps life is too simple for them, and conversations too simplistic for them to accommodate.

With Ssuna Ben taking over the Corporate streets, I can confirm that there is an ongoing renaissance.
What seemed "local" is going to be the new mainstream. We are entering a new cultural and artistic phase. Perhaps it is Ugandans rediscovering who they are as a people.
Age 30 is when most people start to live. At least the few who are lucky to start living.
The point is that you should get to your thirties when you have exhausted your extremes. You know your points of failure. And you really know who you are and what you not.
I spent 3 hours today at Centenary Bank trying to rectify an issue of an ATM card that can't be read. After 3 hours, I was informed that the chip was damaged and the option was to replace the card. Then the Squid games started.
The Bank was out of VISA cards.
Uganda needs to overhaul its intelligence system. And rebuild it based on meritocracy.
A country’s security is as good as its intelligence system. The ability to gather the right intelligence and the ability to act on it.
At the moment, ours is a reactionary system.
On 23rd August 2023, I will release a book titled; "Kevin Aliro." It is a book about Uganda viewed through the life of Kevin Aliro.
At 28 years, Aliro co-founded what we now know as Daily Monitor. At 40, he co-founded The Observer. In his other life, he found a home at SC Villa

at 2am in the night. I didn't expect to reach him that late. After a few beeps, he picked up and helped me resolve my issues. He is an awesome individual. Most of his good deeds go unannounced!
May 2022 bring him more blessings!
The State is actually happy to have Kakwenza's torture videos and photos are spreading all over. They are happy that it is spreading fear into the hearts and souls of many. They are happy that is it creating a narrative; "however takes this path, these are the consequences."
Criticism is the new envy. Social media gave us the platform to veil our envy. When we see people living better lives, we disguise our envy through criticism. We find something that is missing about them and use that to feel better about our own inadequacy.
We rarely talk about the dangers of echo Chambers. Most of us tend to live in one or two echo Chambers unknowingly.
We read the same books, we hang around the same people, we visit the same places, we maintain the same routines.
A few weeks back, I was certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP). The PMP exam is considered one of the hardest. It is a four hour exam consisting of 200 questions. I passed ‘Above Target’ in every domain, probably the best performance of this year.

@KagutaMuseveni
has become a perfect millennial. He spent his Friday night partying all the way past midnight. He declared an open bar for his buddies. Today morning, he woke up, and is now at a wedding. There's no way in the world this man is in his 70s! He's 20ish!!!
All power structures in Uganda have been wiped out over time. All platforms of mobilization were dismantled. Everything in Uganda that came close to class consciousness was destroyed. Kimeezas were banned.
There was a time when MUASA was a force. It exists no more.
Most men become men upon the death of their mothers. Nothing strips a man bare like the death of their mother. It sobers them. It propels them into a new world. It unsettles his identity, everything that held him firm and then he is left with no option but to recreate himself.
I come from the school of marketing that says; "No amount of marketing will save a bad product."
I once tried a hand at influencing for a Telecom company. On the same day I was being asked to hype the fast Internet, was the day I was suffering with tortoise speeds. I quit!
The Audacity that someone with an office in Buganda, a home in Buganda, businesses in Buganda can confidently accuse the Baganda of tribalism. Imagine that happened in another region of Uganda!
We are reciprocating Buganda love with hate! Despicable to imagine!
Poverty robs people of their self-esteem. Poverty robs a man of his dignity. Even when this man makes some money, he feels the need to prove a point. To prove that he is not broke any more. And that's a trap. That's how most people slide back into poverty.
I learned that the world doesn't care once you are dead. No one will show up to check on your kids. They will make bold promises at your funeral, promise to pay your children's school fees, heap praises on your lifeless body. That's where it all ends. The world is brutal!

I am one of those that highly doubt a Muhoozi project. Museveni will never play his cards openly. He is a master of smoke screens, a true student of Sun Tzu.
If you look at Cafe Javas' Profit and Loss Statement, you will notice that Training takes up a big part the cost. Only that I believe Cafe Javas looks at Training as its actual secret. The Training Budget of Cafe Javas is what guarantees their customer service.
I am always haunted by the fact that Uganda's contribution to global GDP is 0.1%. Africa's contribution to global GDP is 4%. Uganda's contribution to Africa's GDP is 1%.
I remember these facts whenever someone tries to shove me off the road. You are rushing to make 0.1%.
You must always love chaos. If you can master chaos, you can survive anywhere. You don't build resilience on soft grounds, you build it through adversity. Facing multiple failures, yet rising nonetheless. Don't wish for a chaos free life, wish for the ability to thrive within.

I read a story of how most men go to ruin in their 40s. Men tend to peak in their 40s, basically arrive by African standards, yet, they also soon go bust sooner than later.
It is not that most men can't manage success. It is that success also breeds failure!
You can accuse Baganda of every other crime in the world, but tribalism is not one of them. The Baganda have intermarried more than any other tribe in this country. We often joke; "almost hard to find a pure Muganda these days."
One of the best things a man can do for their life is to 'go off script.' When you're born, the world, your parents, society, they hand you a certain script. By this age, do this. Go to school for this long. study these kind of subjects. Take these breaks. Now proceed here...
The "Urbanites", "the elites", "the thought leaders" have all been programmed to hate Bobi Wine. When you ask them; "what wrong has Bobi Wine done?" None of them can clearly tell you. Isn't Bobi Wine a Ugandan? Doesn't he have a right to talk about issues?
I fear Museveni for one thing; "he fights the long game." He is one individual I have studied and observed greatly on matters of strategy. Read the art of war, and soon you realize that Museveni must have reread that book countless times. When M7 does something, don't look there.
I want to play devil's advocate for Patrick Bitature. Beyond a certain wealth threshold, government will always force a marriage with you. And beyond a certain threshold, government will always seek to trim your wings. If you notice, every rich man in Uganda has been trimmed.
The world speaks two languages. One language that everyone hears. And another language that a lucky few get to hear and talk amongst themselves.
How the world says it works and how it actually works are two different things. Understand this fact and make peace with it.
One of the things we do well in Uganda is to live in denial. A Ugandan rarely accepts defeat. Ugandans will be in a smelly place yet none will have the courage to say something is amiss.
For if not for denial, why wouldn't Luganda be our National Language?
One of the things rarely discussed in Uganda is Trauma, and especially Generational Trauma. We tend to call this generational curses but literally it is just imprints of pain that get carried on from one generation to another. Most Ugandans suffer from at least 2 forms of trauma.
There are writers but there is Edward K.N Kawere. There are books but there is Zinunula Omunaku. I have spent the last few days working through this book. The Luganda in this book requires patience. Yet, it is the book you don't wish to stop reading. It is captivating.
Every other tribe in Uganda has a village to return to. Buganda doesn't have that village. That's why Baganda always have high stakes in every election and every decision in this country. Because when Kampala burns, Buganda burns. We must put some respect on Buganda and Baganda.
Twesimye Nyo Olwa Buganda. I would love to hear about other Kingdoms and how one would become a subject in that Kingdom. How welcoming were other Kingdoms? That's why Uganda could only come out of Buganda.
Buganda has fed this country, welcomed everyone, supported everyone. If there is one tribe that has always been betrayed, then it is the Baganda. They have always paid the price of "trusting too much" and "being too nice."
We should never take this love for granted!
There is power in being underrated. There is power in playing dumb. There is power in not looking like a threat to the people around you. There is power in being ignored. There is power in playing weak.
There is power in people not knowing what you want.
One of the rules of Project Management: "Never Lose touch with the Ground." Always find time to speak to the doers. If it's a construction project, speak to the porter, the foreman, speak to the supplier of materials. Always speak to the guys on the ground.
It is after your children make something of themselves that the world will show up once again. People will pretend to love your children when you are alive. Because they know by loving your children, they get a quick entry into your world.
Rwanda has officially become the Country of the World. Starting today, all you have to do is get your passport, and air ticket. Fly to Rwanda and you will be granted Visa upon Arrival. Is this not the greatest time to be alive?
Kampala, there was a city! This was the bowling alley at Garden city mall. It was a mall ahead of its times. At the same mall, Sylvia Owori launched the Midnight shopping concept. The Open-eating area had around six restaurants with different cuisines. The first 'escalator' mall.
When we had a Lawyer at the helm, you could barely find a pothole in Kampala.
With an Engineer in charge, you can barely find a road.
Life can present ironies...
I just concluded my morning walk from Naalya to Kyambogo and back to Naalya.
Walking is therapeutic. Walking is how you link back to the Universe. Walking is the quickest way to have a meeting with yourself.
Here are my notes:
Musevenism versus Kagameism
In the longterm, the school of Kagame will win. Musevenism will be destroyed by its own excesses. For Musevenism is a melange of philosophies, endless compromises, it lacks the purity that follows successful models.
Today I received a call from an MTN Technical Assistant. He called with 0760485639.
He wanted to help me out. He said; "MTN is disconnecting your number tomorrow morning. We sent you messages. You refused to respond. Are you not Ian Ortega?" I responded in the affirmative.
Perhaps Museveni's greatest achievement has been the fact that he has outlived and outlasted his greatest enemies, critics, opponents, and peers. He's seen Presidents come and go.
And above all, he has always practiced one rule; "self preservation."
I am yet to meet a happy man in life. All men feel a certain constant form of inadequacy. Men just never arrive. They're constantly trying to earn masculinity ranks. They spend all their lives in perpetual inadequacy. Even the man who drives a Mercedes Benz will be yearning more
Four questions remain unsolved in Uganda:
1. The Banyarwanda question
2. The Land Question
3. The Role of Buganda in Uganda
4. What does Uganda mean to the rest of its regions?
Every President of Uganda has failed to find answers to these questions.
St. Henry's College Kitovu (SHACK) will celebrate 100 years of existence this year. Today, I hiked around this school. Here is a pictorial recap of my Centennial Hike:
A man who has full control of his sex and his alcohol, is a man who has full control of everything else in his life. That is a man that's unbeatable.
I am yet to find a man who has full control of both. It is the trickiest of balances.
The very name Buganda alludes to togetherness. Omuganda is a stack of things. As such, anyone can become a Muganda, anyone can be a Musajja Wa Kabaka! It is only in Buganda where entire clans were created to accomodate other tribes, foreigners, settlers.
Everything seems easy when you are on the sidelines. It is easy to cheer your freedom fighters. But take a moment in their shoes. And you will understand why many have a change of mind. Sometimes darkness overwhelms light!
A friend today argued a new theory; "A theory of Two Thieves." He states that it is not that there are no thieves in Kenya or Tanzania, they are as many. The difference is that the thieves in Kenya are progressive and the ones in Uganda are a non-progressive lot.
I read a story yesterday about career development; "Most people in life do not need mentors, they need sponsors."
Looking back, I realize every single success story I know of is about people not just pointing at the door but going ahead to open the door.
Akalo Ka Buganda has an interesting story. Anyone who fails to understand this story is bound to repeat the mistakes of those who didn't understand it.
Buganda has had two known dynasties. The Tonda Dynasty and the Kintu Dynasty.
Winnie Nakanwagi aka Nwagi aka Firebaby of the Ngabi Clan has been declared as the first Ugandan music artiste to fill up Lugogo Cricket Oval. She's achieved a feat only previously known to the UB40s of this world.
She's proven to be the Fire Dancer, that shoots Sasi Ku Nyama.
There are two kinds of people in the world:
1. Those who pursue happiness
2. Those who pursue meaning
Majority pursues happiness. The only problem is that happiness is a moving target. We never truly find it. It doesn't really exist. It changes form.
Jobs are changing rapidly that it won't make sense to have experience in anything going forward. The nature of work is transforming every minute. You can be in the same role, but you won't be doing the same job you did a month back. Everything is changing at a fast pace.
DRC is going to be the test of the East African Community. It may also bring to an actual realization of the East African Defense Forces (EADF).
In future, Goma could become the true home of the EADF. The politics of DRC will determine the politics of every other EAC country.

@observerug
is the next big thing in Africa. There is not a single media house in East Africa that does what they do. Observer occupies a unique position aka "The Apple of Journalism in East Africa."
If I were an investor, I would be interested in having Observer stocks.
A friend at
@Innovug
has encouraged that we start giving away business ideas. It has good ripple effects:
1. If somebody is already doing it, then we get to know and can go support that person
2. If nobody is doing it, somebody can pick it up and execute on it
To become a Muganda is a process. It is not just about being born to Baganda parents. That can give you an advantage. But for one to be qualified to be called a Muganda, it is a process. It requires effort and hard work. You must earn it. It doesn't happen in any other Kingdom.
Museveni should write a history book. It would be an instant best-seller. But the one thing you can't risk him on, is a future book. A book about the future of Uganda? A book that reinvents Uganda. For 30 years, Museveni has complained about the same things. Same, solutions.

When you become a Muganda, we call that process Okugandawala. So if you act and behave like a Muganda, you can undergo omugandawazza. One must be a Muganda first in Olulimi, second in Empisa, third in Obuwangwa and fourth in Obwakababa.
Obote stopped behaving like a Muganda. To be a Muganda, it is that class, that refinement. Omuganda doesn't have Maalo. A Muganda has that flair, that finesse, the way he or she sits. A Muganda holds themselves like royalty.
We have crossed to the Demoralisation Stage in Uganda. I have lived for sometime and never have I witnessed such levels of demoralisation in Uganda. I speak to Teachers, to Doctors, to Lawyers, the minds all exhibit high levels of demoralisation.
There is a cabal of not more than 50 people that runs Uganda. That cabal decides who gets to be Minister, Permanent Secretary etc. It decides who gets to participate in some business sectors, it decides who gets to win certain tenders depending on the marginal size.
You want to become rich in a Wavamunno style, super refined. So with this complex intertwining, it is just hard to destroy Buganda. Because Buganda is not just buildings, land, it is a way of life, a philosophy, a value system. It is beautiful reading Adam Kimala's book.
Anyone can become a Muganda. That's why Buganda clans have been increasing from one Kabakaship to another. We say if anyone copies the styles and behaviours of a Muganda, then that person too can be called a Muganda. And this involves the following:
The one thing we lack as Ugandans is a sense of dignity. We don't know where to draw the line. You can push all the lines when it comes to a Ugandan. Even when you think this is the cracking point of a Ugandan, a Ugandan will still be able to take in more.
In the coming years, we are going to witness a renaissance in all aspects of Ugandan Life. There's a silent wave, it's coming sooner than later. There's a growing need to answer the identity question. Who am I? Where do I come from? Buganda will lead that renaissance.
When you master the Luganda language, you are given the ranking of Omuganda ow'ekibobwe. Okweyisa nga Omuganda does more in making you a Muganda than being born one. Thus, to be a Muganda is not an act of birth, it is a lifestyle. Your lifestyle must reflect that you are one.
Most people think Museveni has ruled more through violence. On the contrary, Museveni has ruled through myth. Over the years, he has created different myths. One must give it to him when it comes to telling a good story. He's ruled Uganda through fiction. Force has been secondary
There are things that a Muganda doesn't do. Omuganda talaga Busungu. Omuganda teyerabira. Omuganda talya nkwe. Omuganda talya mukyalo. Omuganda tasabiriza. When Obote became a Muganda, he was given the name Bwete. The reason Obote is detested is because he went against this.
To Kakwenza, your mental and psychological resilience keeps us free. It may come at a great cost, but you are paying a price for our freedom. And the state hates your kind, the ones that it can't break! Because you render powerless, the last of their weapons. You are our hero!
There is no formula in life. Life is just context and nuances. Something that worked for me, may not really work for you. At the end of the day, be an expert on your context. Nitpick advise! You are the expert of your life. Think for yourself. Do not outsource this!
By the way, power comes with an aura. When you meet the President, that aura can swallow you. For a moment, you may forget that you're dealing with a mortal. That aura can overwhelm you, make you forget whatever you wanted to tell him. It will subdue you. It can't be explained.
Most creatives die poor because they do a lot of proborno work. We always wonder; "why did this writer die poor?" "Why is this creative still footing?" How wouldn't they when you people don't pay for their art?
You ask your Photographer friend to cover your event for free!
One of the things I wish I had learned earlier in life is the art of listening. I have been taking negotiation courses and it all boils down to one thing; "learning the art of listening." That ability to enter another person's world and see things from their world. Perspective!
I do not wish to receive any calls or emails from Centenary Bank purporting to rectify the situation. From what I observed today, the issues at the bank are systemic and that's the Bank culture. I am glad to have cured myself of my Stockholm syndrome. May the Pope forgive me!
I also recommend Sir Apologies Kaggwa's book; "Empisa z'Abaganda." You will be awed by this thing called Buganda and Baganda. No wonder we talk about Ekitibwa Kya Buganda. Omuganda will fight tooth and nail to never lose their Kitibwa. Omuganda amanyi Okwelunjiyya. That's empisa.
The 48 Laws of Power (Robert Greene)
1. Never outshine the master
2. Don't trust friends, use enemies
3. Mask your intentions
4. Protect your reputation
5. Make yourself indispensable
6. Make people come to you
7. Feign honesty and generosity
8. Stay away from losers
Sometimes, the easiest way to solve a problem is to wait it out. Strategic Patience is a key weapon.
You don't have to solve every problem. You don't have to fight every battle. Time will always fight half of life's problems.
I spent yesterday at the late Dr. Kisamba Mugerwa's farm in Kikonda. I was hosted by his amazing wife and children. My visit started in the Greenhouse where they are currently growing sweet pepper. Kisamba Mugerwa was a true visionary! He was ahead of his time.
Every human has a breaking point. You just have to keep pressing till you find it. That's what happens to most people in the opposition. Many always have genuine convictions when they start out. But life in the struggle is extremely hard. It is hard being in and out of jail.
