The Bellaire Big Reds finally knocked the door down in 2004 and I still think it was the best team in D3 that year despite the unfavorable double OT loss to Versailles in the state semis. Under the legendary Gene Ammirante, the Big Reds were always a threat. Any Coach A fans?

At least 90% of the time I talk with an AAU coach, their first response is “man, we don’t have our 2 big this weekend” followed by answering whatever question I asked. I think all 90% of those teams have the same two “missing” bigs. @aau_bingo

If it comes down to Ohio State/Northwestern or Pick Central/Pick North, that’s an easy choice. Changing game times to accommodate OSU football is crazy to me. l will choose supporting kids and a community I actually know every time! That’s just me though.

Ramon Spears has built Columbus South from the group up! South was (1-19) in his first season (2010-2011) and here we are nine seasons later and the Bulldogs are heading to the Final 4. It's simply amazing what he has done there. Great things take patience and time!

We have some great D3 schools in Ohio right now playing very good basketball. Wittenberg, Baldwin-Wallace, John Carroll, Marietta, Ohio Wesleyan, Ohio Northern, Wooster, and Mount Union just to name a few. Rosters full of very good HS players. Educate yourself.

How about @BotkinsHoops head coach Sean Powell? All he does is lead Botkins to a state title in year 3 after coming down as JV coach at Lima Perry w/Matt Tabler. Oh, and he got to win as a Dad as well! He applied for 2/3 jobs prior to Botkins and didn't get a callback. Whoops!

Those familiar with the MAC conference know this isn't shocking. You go undefeated in that conference, you aren't coming to the Final 4 to be happy with a runner-up. Marion Local claims the football and basketball titles.

Indiana State head baseball coach is Mitch Hannahs. He helped lead Skyvue to the 84 and 85 state🏀 tournaments. Hawks lost in semis in 84 by 1 and by 2 in 85 in the finals. In 85, two months later, they win A baseball crown. Any of my followers remember Hannahs and Skyvue?

Kaleb Wesson no doubt has talent and has worked hours on end to become a complete player, but he is a college coach's dream. He comes college ready in terms of basketball IQ and fundamentals, which is a byproduct of playing for a HS coaching staff such as Westerville South.

Attending my nephews 9u travel baseball game, and I’m not sure what we are doing. Leading off, stealing with short bases and kids that are just learning how to pitch. Nothing but walks and steals. No one is learning the fundamentals and intricacies of such a beautiful sport.

We have players that can Euro-step from half court & dribble 2 tennis balls with a blindfold on, but can’t talk on D, aren’t engaged or alert, have no idea how to close out properly or get to the help side when the ball is on the opposite side. Little things win at all levels.

The SCAL is so competitive. You have the defending state champs (Botkins) at (17-1) along with Jackson Center, Fort Loramie, & Russia. -JC has beat Russia twice. -Russia has beat Fort Loramie twice. -FL has beat JC twice. 🔥League is so underrated.

I remember my first year coaching at the varsity level (2003-2004), our drawing was at the Moose Lodge in New Philadelphia. They fed us a $2 steak and the last seed. However, none of that mattered, as the camaraderie, laughs, and stories will never be rivaled by a zoom call.

Doug Hughes has done an outstanding job at Parkway. Historically, not a team in the top half of the MAC, but sits at 5-2 in the league and (13-6) overall after a coveted win over Delphos St. John's last night. Wins over St. Henry, Marion Local, & Coldwater as well which is rare.

I was doing a little research and crunched a few numbers to find that Jay Sharrett, who is in his 16th season as head coach at Pickerington Central, is (159-31) with just six losses at home and two of those were playoff games. #remarkable #Picktown

I think Pick Central’s win over Osceola, a team that won 30 games a season ago and won Florida’s largest division while having 2 of Florida’s top juniors in Omar Payne and Isaiah Palmero, speaks more to the level of basketball being played in D1 Central District top-2-bottom.

Scooter Toldza has done a great job at Meadowbrook with 4 regionals in 5 seasons, but I think he would be the first to tell you that having a guy like Dan Schwieterman (450-plus wins) on the bench hasn’t hurt.

On the right, is Matt Moser, who was a standout on Liberty-Benton’s undefeated 1995 state championship team. One of the best D4 teams in OHSAA history. Moser totaled 31 points in wins over Dalton and Springfield CC.

Kobe Mitchell of Harrison Central deserves serious consideration for D3 POY. Last night, became the all-time leading scorer in Harrison County history along with moving past Jimmy Jackson on the @OHSAASports scoring list. Mitchell (2,334) is just 6 points behind Dan Monteroso.

Sonny Styles can completely take games over with his ability to facilitate, defend, rebound, block shots, and score when needed. I would assume every coach on @PCTigersHoops schedule would agree that Sonny is without a doubt an All-OH player. PPG can be very misleading.

This is a Troy Christian that beat OG at OG by 11. Russia beat Troy Christian by 25 in the regular season and then 21 tonight when the money was on the line. This team is in the conversation for one of the best D4 teams this century. The Raiders are at the table.

Hiland lost starting PG Ashton Schrock before the season then starters Alex Yoder and Connor Beachy during the season, and still found a way to show up in Dayton. Not many programs could withstand that adversity.

One last thought about this @OhioStateHoops team. It’s clearly evident this team likes and cares for each other. Players pulling for each other, which is another rarity. This is a lost component when talking about a winning formula.
