My Sikh grandmother spent yesterday evening with my Muslim relatives, including another grandmother. Two women who knew a time before Partition, whose lives were torn apart by Partition, sharing food, celebrating. This harmony, past and present, fills me with hope. Eid Mubarak!

Punjabi lessons from the streets of Chandigarh: ੳ - ਊਠ 🐪⁣ For those who never endured Gurdwara Punjabi lessons, ੳ is the first letter of the Gurmukhi (Punjabi) alphabet; it is used to spell ਊਠ (camel). This would be drilled for eternity. No actual Punjabi would be learnt. 😂

Events in Delhi seem horribly reminiscent of 1984. Then it was Sikhs, now Muslims. Hate breeds hate, impunity breeds impunity. “We all celebrated Eid and Diwali together...whatever peace we had is now gone.” Sincerely hope peace and justice can prevail.

Just finished @Sathnam ’s excellent #EmpireLand . Craved a book like this when I began tracing my colonial roots. Highly recommend it for anyone embarking on their own journey of self discovery. Without understanding our imperial past, we cannot understand our present selves.
