Chew on this: did you know that a family of 4 in Ohio making less than $54,000 doesn’t qualify for free&reduced lunch, but a family making $150,000 qualifies for a voucher that will give them $6k-$8k.
A family of 4 must make less than $55,500 to qualify for free and reduced lunch in Ohio. My point is why is it ok for government to give a $6-$8k private education voucher to a family making $150k of public money and not support a family going to a public school with food?
There’s 1 pot of money and $1B is going to private and largely religious based schools that serve only 10% of students. I don’t think a retired person paying taxes to the public should have their money filtered to a family so they can attend a private school.
The majority of families taking vouchers are already attending private schools & were paying tuition. Now they get a tax payer subsidized coupon to do so while a family in need of food attending a public school doesn’t qualify for food. Why is private school more important than🥘
Our Bulldog hearts go out to one of the best families in our community as they grieve the loss of their father and husband. John Jaeckin was a great father, husband and friend to many. We love you Jaeckin family and we got you.
There isn’t a staff member or resident that doesn’t want kids back in school. The decision as to when and how that occurs will be based on ones health risk tolerance for students-families-&-staff. Whatever the decision, we CANNOT let it divide our school and community.

Families on the lunch program get breaks on school fees. Families that aren’t pay. Districts aren’t made whole for breaks on school fees. These fees exist bc public schools are not adequately funded. This is my case in point.
Moments like tonight make it a privilege to serve as superintendent in Olmsted Falls. After the Bulldogs beat Midview 34-7, Coach DeLuca awarded me the game ball in front of the team. One of the best professional moments of my life. Thanks coach!
@OFfootball1
The “parade” is a symbolic protest of the ineptitude of the Browns ownership to bring quality football back to the CLE. I love my Browns. It’s not about celebrating losing. My brother and I are ticket holders and he drives in from Toronto. We want a winner!

Here is a list of Ohio Public School Districts that are suing the Ohio government for violating the Ohio Constitution. If your school district is not involved please ask your board of education members why they aren't.
DeWine drops the gauntlet and essentially says, wear a mask and make good choices. I believe this is his last warning. He will give it 2 weeks and if it doesn’t improve, he will shut it down.
PSA: Olmsted Falls Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, January 27, 2022 due to the wicked cold temps. Projected morning temperatures are between -10 to -13. Phone, email and text announcement coming in a bit. Evening activities will be on as scheduled.
PSA for Students: Gathering in large groups(more than 10)may cure your loneliness, but it won’t help the situation we’re in.While the virus may not have a high probability of killing you—it could, or you could get it, carry it to someone else and complicate their life. Be smart.
A note to the Olmsted Community: Young people make mistakes and some make very poor decisions. They’re young and need guidance; not shaming. When a person is “in a hole” I choose to help restore, build up and assist with atonement. You should too.
Wanted to share both of these charts. Public schools from Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Summit Counties sorted by largest increase in vouchers from FY23 to FY24. If you look at schools with the most versus those with the least, there is an obvious pattern.
Congratulations to our girls basketball team for their regional championship and return to the division 1 Final 4 state tournament. School will be cancelled this Friday so that our community can travel and support our girls.
There’s so much negativity in the world. Be safe, be respectful, be responsible, but most of all Be Kind. If people can’t do those few things then I really don’t wish to engage with them and that includes followers on Twitter. My account, my opinions.
3 banners going back to their origin. Not because I do not value our staff, but rather, because I value them more than a banner that calls attention to success within a system that detracts from our core vision of Inspiring and Empower our students.

Attention OFCS community: School will be cancelled tomorrow, February 16, due to weather. All in-person and remote classes are cancelled. Announcements will be forthcoming through email, text and local tv. Evening events are pending.
This is the kind of crap that happens when absolute power goes unchecked and Matt Huffman has gone unchecked. Public money for private, religious schools. Where is the

outrage on this?
Very pleased to informally announce that I received notification today from the Cleveland Browns, NFL Foundation & LISC that our field surface grant was approved. We will receive $250,000 to install artificial turf at Harding Memorial Stadium in the summer of 2022.
Students remember that your “digital footprint” is nearly permanent and it can tell the world a great deal about you...what you think is ok, what you value, how you view the world and who you are. It’s your choice. Choose kindness.
Things I am not comfortable saying as a school superintendent as it relates to reopening: “Lets not let science stand in the way of students returning to school.” Everyone wants kids to return. Doing it responsibly is key.
I’m happy to say that we will start the 2020-2021 school year in a Hybrid Model. Our staff is pleased that we will be able to provide in-person instruction for our students. While it is not in-person 5-days per week, it does represent the first steps towards a typical school day.
School will be canceled tomorrow, Jan 31, 2019 for the Olmsted Falls City School District due to wind chill temps that’ll freeze a penguin. Stay safe and warm.
PSA: Olmsted Falls Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 3rd. All evening events will also be cancelled as the storm is projected to get progressively worse throughout the day. Enjoy your day. Announcement coming out shortly.
The
@OHEducation
and OH legislators can extend Ohio’s testing program a week, a month or a year. It’s still a waste of student and teacher time, district resources, and loss of valuable instructional opportunity. Help us

PSA: Olmsted Falls is cancelling school tomorrow, Friday, February 18. The ice storm coupled with snow will create some treacherous transportation conditions tomorrow. Sorry for the late call but it is better than an early a.m. call off. Auto-messages coming shortly.
As the Department of Education passes out its "All As" awards, I'd call on my colleagues to resist celebrating a system that emphasizes standardized test scores, shrinks the curriculum, is socio-economically biased and creates undue anxiety for students and families.

Proposed Ohio House Bill 327 is having it’s 5th hearing in the Ohio House. It prohibits “teaching, advocating or promoting divisive concepts.” The sponsors are Grendel and Fowler-Arthur. It’s government intrusion into the classroom and It’s not needed.
I would like to take a minute to recognize and thank the entire staff at the Olmsted Falls City School District. Thank you for staying healthy and hanging in there. We got to winter break. Congratulations. Enjoy the holiday season with your families.
I hate cancelling. Here’s the problem-there’s a ton of snow outside; in general, the bus stop areas are not plowed (I drove around); it’s wicked cold; Kids standing in the street waiting for the bus is not good. Do your homework; study for finals.
I often catch flak for my
#publicschools
emphasis, but growing up together...attending the same school and living in the same community means alot. You can see from the videos and photos today how much these girls and their success means to our school community.
Hail to thee ‘ole Olmsted Falls High School Trailers. You served us well but now it’s time for you to go. Thank you Olmsted Communities for making it possible!
The adults in the world should do a lot more listening and supporting of our Nation’s students. They’re scared, hurting and angry. Don’t suppress their energy or fear it. Help them to channel it. You don’t suspend. You support!
Being your Bulldog best at Falls-Lenox gets you a token and a book. Thanks to the F/L PTA for stocking the machine. This is what it’s all about. It put wind in my sails today. Thank you!
Why do I have local discretion for logistics related to handling a pandemic (something I know little about) while not having local discretion as it relates to student learning and assessment (something I and my colleagues have considerable knowledge about)?🤔 that’s messed up
Please let me know if any Olmsted Falls Student group would like to meet with me or any other administrator about school safety, organizing your voices and your thoughts, etc; please let me know. I am here to listen & support you.
I wish people did as much research and pontificating about test-based, school Accountability systems as they do about student masking/facial coverings. If they did, we might actually have some momentum to fix a problem that has been present for decades.
So proud of our head football coach Tom DeLuca for receiving the
@BuildBridge2020
coach of the year from Kahari Hicks. Tom is much more than a coach. He is an incredible person in the classroom and outside of it. He does more than coach & teach. He’s a mentor to so many.
On behalf of the school district our thoughts and prayers are with the families impacted by the fire at the townhomes in Olmsted Falls today. We’re going to find out more at 4:00. Let’s rally as a community to help.
As we begin to consider our responsible Re-start, not everyone will agree with our plan. Our families deserve to know and understand why we’re making the decisions. The safety of our students and adults will be central to all decisions.
To all educators: the State will be recklessly be releasing standardized test scores to the public soon. Those tests should not have been given in a pandemic in the first place as many students weren’t even tested. The results are unreliable and invalid.
Solid leadership from our Governor and I appreciate it. "The truth is that protecting people & protecting the economy are not mutually exclusive. In fact one depends on the other. The fact is we save our economy by first saving lives. And we have to do it in that order."
Come on. How about the choice to fund schools at the level that they should be funded at? I can’t afford PPE let alone fund your school choice. We’re killing ourselves working towards a responsible reopening and your dropping this nonsense? Did Betsy’s car breakdown in Ohio?

I appreciate the love and support from the community for our school district. The stories of student success that were told tonight along with the large number in attendance are what makes Olmsted Falls Schools a great place. From my heart to yours, thank you.
This photo was shared with me but the taker is Mr. Conti. Such a cool picture so I wanted to share. Imagine a field house in the bottom right corner that could be seen from the sky with all the plane traffic overhead. We’re looking for a sponsor.

Congratulations to our two new Principals—Dora Bechtel at the Early Childhood Center and Leo Spagnola at OF High School. Thank you to all of the stakeholders that completed surveys or took part in the selection process.
Tonight the OFCS Board of Education voted to support our school Re-Opening plan and the plan to continue extra-curriculars. If the CuyCo data continued to trend downward, I am hopeful that in person schooling will occur on Sept 8 for those that desire it. Please do your part.
I started my career in education as a school psychologist. Student mental health has always been, and continues to be, a priority. I wear green in support of mental health.

Horrible incident at the Falls Lounge last night. Our community needs to take action and CLOSE THAT PIT DOWN. It’s down the street from 2 schools, a subway that is popular with kids and a karate place for families.
The Olmsted Falls School District will not be in session tomorrow, Friday-Jan 5. With temp and wind it will feel like -20 at 7:00 am. Some evening activities will go on as planned. Check social media for updates
Fellow supers, never forget why we got into the business. On a tough day, head to preschool and make Wonder Woman bracelets, sit in circle time, hang out at the water table, build something or spell things with kids. It centered me today. Thanks ECC Preschool Staff!
Last year at this time we were preparing for delivering a new instructional model bc the Governor closed us down for the remainder of the school year. Today our kids are back 5-days per week and our staff will be getting our 2nd vaccination.
OF parents: we are keeping an eye on this storm. Rain and ice will occur until midnight and then the temperature will shift. Tomorrow morning will likely be a challenge. Stay tuned.
