The official number of visitors to Karbala during the 10 day period of ‘Arbaeen’ is 22,019,146, surpassing last year’s number of just under 21.2 million. All were provided food, water & shelter. It baffles me till this day how this annual event is completely ignored by the media.

I don't want to reduce #AyaHachem 's memory to a sectarian Twitter debacle. She is worth more than that - a beautiful soul stolen from us too early. However, the reaction of some Muslims to her being Shia is proof of a horrid, deep rooted Shiaphobia problem in many young Muslims.

Right now, millions of people from all around the world are walking to the city of Karbala for the largest annual pilgrimage in the world. Last year's pilgrimage saw 16.3 million visitors - all fed & housed by the generosity of the Iraqi people. As usual, media isn't interested.
