@3ofcupsgames
, we have an amazing team that we'll be announcing in the following weeks and we are making an awesome game.
Three of Cups is an ethical, diverse and inclusive games studio based in London, UK. 🌈
We believe that we can help to change the world through games.
We believe in emotions.
We believe in making games for E V E R Y O N E.
But above all, we believe in people.
I created a discord server around mental health and self-care for women in the games industry.

🌏 Do you think it can be useful to someone? RT!
Sometimes I wonder who is gonna cover the big market niche of women +50 who didn’t have the opportunity to have free time for entertainment and now want to discover games but didn’t grow up with technology so the UX has to be even more gentle and pleasant to guide them.
✨Emotional Game Design Mentorship✨
I've decided to start a mentorship programme for anyone with an interest in emotional game design.
Applications will close on the 2nd of July, mentorship starts in Sept. Deets👇😊
RTs appreciated!💛

- él no es como los otros
- quiere crecer contigo
- le van los retos
- quiere que desarrolles tu máximo potencial
No es tu novio. Es una startup.
Once again, feeling today insecure about my skills as a game designer.
I tweet it because I think that newcomers in the games industry need to know that this happens and it’s ok.
Who else feels sometimes insecure about their skills even though being experienced? Tell me!👇🏻💛

I don't have words right now but immense thanks to all my beautiful friends and above all, my parents, for believing in me.
Friends! I want to see something!
How many years have you been in the industry and how many credits in games you got so far?
Pls indicate country where you are based too.

Game Designers:
It's ok if you are not technical.
It's ok if you don't want to do level design.
There are many branches of game design and they are all respectable and necessary.
Find your own voice.
Also for anyone curious about why I went from promoting this game I passionately worked on during almost 4 years to almost not say a word about it, I'm going to make a small summary:
I was not treated well by some people in there and I don't want to promote the game further.
Hello! Let's do a round of sharing our salaries in the industry. I think it's important to do this regularly tbh!
I start:
Position: Principal Game Designer
Exp: 5 years
Based in: Berlin, Germany
Income Gross: 3.420 EUR
Full-time employed
32 days of holidays / year
Friends!💛
I wrote an article about finding your own voice as a professional when you don't feel like fitting in the already existing labels. It's a text about insecurities and probably the most personal text I ever wrote about my career. 🥺🌻
I’m writing an article on how I thought I was not a real game designer because I didn’t fit in the classic game designer label and how I tried to work on finding my own voice.
Here a list of events you can attend instead of GDC that are awesome and more affordable depending on where you live: (some of them I attended and some just heard really positive things):
I would love to host or take part of a game jam that encourages people to make games on their own languages aside from English. All the languages are so beautiful.
I want more games industry in different languages not just English.
Friends! 💛
I'm looking for artists with *some* experience in mobile, a cartoony style and an interest in making emotional games. Preferably based in Europe but not necessary.
If it's you, post your portfolio below! RTs appreciated.

Yesterday I was talking to a friend about how inaccessible is Unity for non programmers.
Game designers also need engines to prototype and no, it’s not part of my role to know C# programmer level for prototyping my ideas myself.
Actually, please, make yourself and others a favour:
Do lots of things no videogames related. That's how we make games that relate to human experience, create engagement and hopefully emotion.
You're welcome.
Friends! 💛
One of my projects is wrapping up and I'm looking for gigs on game design, lead design or creative direction.
If you definitely need juicy & warm game design, my DMs are open! 💌
RTs super appreciated! ✨😊
Would you be interested in attending a game developers conference focused on well-being with workshops around yoga, mindfulness, connection, nutrition, mental health, emotional intelligence, etc?
Exciting times! 🔥
I can’t reveal much yet *BUT* I’m slowly organising an Emotional Game Dev Conference for before the year ends.
It will take place online so *e v e r y o n e * can attend safely and from everywhere in the world! 🥳💛
More details to come! 😊
Toxic indie studios get money for making games
Funding diverse teams with strong ethics = don’t get money because “too much risk”, “we don’t fund new teams”, “you need a vertical slice AND a unicorn”.

Some days ago, something happened to me. Someone said about me that I could be *apparently* talented but that I don't have *any* game finished.
Today I counted 33 published games on my itch page.

Friends that had bad job experiences in the games industry: how did you manage to heal yourself from that and recover your self-esteem?
I find it incredibly difficult to stop the tiny voice that tells you that you are not good enough in bad days.
The most useful advice I can give to game designers / developers that just started is:
Listen to advice but don't forget who you are. There is not a single way of doing things and we desperately need in the industry people telling different stories and doing things differently.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that happened to you during a game conference? 😬
I’m always embarrassed of people talking to me and not knowing who they are.
I think we should stop advising people things like "if you wanna be a [game designer] try to start as a producer / programmer / QA, etc so you get a job in the industry.
Doing that is the fastest track to feeling resentful and making you (and probably others too) feel bad.
✨Game Design Advice ✨
When starting a project, thinking about the pillars of your game design spares you lots of frustration and helps you to figure out A LOT for the time to come.
They can be 4/5 things that you want to put as "ingredients" in your game. 😊
To have more confident, happy people in the games industry we need to normalise making things step by step.
Not making perfect stuff the first time you make them is NORMAL.
Iteration exists because of that.
A bad draft is better than nothing because it’s some work already.
Friends!!! 💛
I got super good news today! My short film "Roots", has been selected as part of the official selection for the Toronto International Women Film Festival 2021!
I can't believe it! 🥺💛
Am I allowed to do this again?! ☺️

It's so incredible the overwhelming amount of talent in games in Latin America.
We ALL need to stop just looking at Europe/UK/US (mostly) and start valuing talent from other places in the world.
Diversity moves us all forward.
Does every single game have to have goals?
Does every single game have to have skills to learn and improve as well as pose challenges to the player?
I think that many times traditional game design carries a lot of our capitalist society where you need to constantly produce.
The downside of being a game developer is that our work doesn't finish when our job hours finish. We inevitably bring the work with us everywhere and that's why it's important that we establish boundaries with ourselves.
Remember that you don't need to have played all the games for being a great game designer.
Playing lots of games helps to get references, but other knowledge is important too. 🌸
Making games in times of corona is hard. Have other game devs felt this as well?
I’m feeling exhausted of just having online connections with tones of messages popping out all the time. I’m stressed. 😔
Tomorrow Dordogne will be finally published.
I’ve been working on the project as lead game designer since before it even officially started in 2019 until nearly the end this year.
I’m really proud of my work and how much I’ve grown as a professional in the last 4 years.
I love that since I’m openly polyamorous I feel not only much happier but that I know myself much better. There’s nothing worse than living pretending to be someone you are not.
