The racist Gojo jokes were funny for literally 5 seconds before people started taking it as Canon.
Gojo wasn't being malicious or hateful. He was uneducated, like a lot of people can be in a homogeneous society. He immediately apologized when corrected.
Guys— Tengen is a woman. She says so herself. Gege has shown her in a previous form before evolution. I know the Anime referred to her as he/him once, but she confirmed she is a woman 💀
Last I checked, racists don't tend to apologize when called out or corrected. They double down and get defensive. Gojo realized he was wrong and apologized while also acting as a vessel for Gege to address a serious topic
Shonen is for everyone, but people forget it's not a genre: it's a demographic, and it's aimed at teenagers. Teenage boys.
Gege taking the time to shed light on something for a young audience is a good thing, actually
@neonpsych_
In what world could they have possibly interpreted it like that?? 😭
I saw it as the old cartoon gag where the character deflates after something bad happens. Like they just stop waving. The fact that they read it as "limp wristed" says way more about them 💀
@Dragonotey
Everyone's reactions afterward are my favorite. Not a single one of them cared. Even Mai, who had a really bad fight with Maki during the tournament, complimented her 😭
It's also why it's annoying when people call Geto a racist as if Miguel wasn't literally a part of his inner-circle who he explicitly refers to as his family! He trusted Miguel enough to fight Gojo because he respected his talents.
Sometimes, this fandom gets really carried away
Every time people bring up that mistranslation about Gojo not being "faithful" to a woman, it makes me want to leap into the ocean
The actual translation wasn't talking about him being a cheater! It was about how Gojo has difficulty with true vulnerability!
#HazbinHotel
#huskerdust
Y'know, I didn't understand the appeal of HuskerDust, but then I saw their episode together.
I instantly get it now. I am converted and I hope they end up as a canon couple 👀
Stsg shipper: –makes a harmless Stsg shipping thread–
Fandom: "Omg, cute! They're so canon!"
Gjhm shipper: –makes a harmless gjhm shipping thread–
Fandom: "Y'all are so delusional! Why do you hate gay people? 🙄"
Hints that
#Gojohime
moments might be constructed to make people...ship them. There might be a lot hidden romantic connotations than we think.
A thread 🧵😩👌
People really do hold fictional women to a weird standard because liking Mei Mei is seen as a moral failing and people treat her as if she's the most vile, disgusting creature in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen, only to then adore characters like Sukuna, Geto, or Kenjaku 💀
Y'all really do treat rape survivors as if they're worth less than a corpse. Murder and rape are both awful crimes, but rape survivors deserve to live and recover without being told their trauma means they'd be better off dead. What kind of message is that to send to survivors?
@xxnghtclls
This fandom will see someone make a funny joke once and then immediately run it into the ground. Not only overusing the joke, which transforms more into a way to start drama than a joke, but also applying it as literal to the series and characters 💀
Mei Mei is a wonderfully written character that is perfectly in line with the themes and maturity expected from Jujutsu Kaisen. She's complex and tells the audience more about the world and the rules at play.
Also, she's hot. Her design and Technique go hard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ShamanUnholy
It's crazy that this is his first series that actually got picked up. He's doing a great job, but I can't imagine the pressure 💀
I hope he takes a well-deserved break once JJK wraps up before jumping into his next piece
@ShamanUnholy
The Jujutsu System was rotten to the core, and so many people suffered and died because Tengen upheld the status quo. Kenjaku isn't a hero, but he did everyone a favor by uprooting the system. Tengen is stagnation while Kenjaku represents radical change.
This idea that Gojo and Megumi have a canonical father/son dynamic has rotted a lot of people's brains. Cute headcanon, but in canon, Satoru just sent Megumi and Tsumiki money and checked in from time to time.
Just a little tip for the QRTs and comments— not everyone ships stsg. Please unclench, people are allowed to ship other ships and make fun joke posts without you calling them weird or homophobic for it. They're fictional characters, it is not that serious 💀
I think people would enjoy these stories more if they understood that storytelling is an art form.
There is no one way to tell a story. There is no "right" way. Some stories will focus more on plot, some are more character based, some are a mix, etc.
I think people have interpreting this tweet very wrongly, he didn't say that character interactions are not important, ofc they are and they are present in jjk , it's just that entire chaps of just interactions that are more slice of life oriented than plot focused aren't
Any Other JJK Ship: –Posts headcanons, fan art, fanfic, etc. about their ship–
Gojohime Shippers: –Does the same thing–
Y'all: "Omg, gjhm shippers are so delusional! Don't they know Utahime hates him? Why are they shipping a gay man and a lesbian? 🙄"
Why do people equate good world building with globe spanning developments? You could have your story take place in one small city and never expand past that and still have good world building.
For the purposes of the story being told, that city IS the world
I'll never understand the argument against GojoHime being that Gojo is rude to her.
1.) It's a flimsy excuse because it's fiction anyway, so who cares?
2.) Utahime doesn't actually hate Gojo and it has been repeated ad nauseum by Gege and in the story that she is just annoyed.
People read the fanbook page where it says she hates Gojo (ignoring the fact that in the OG Japanese translation, it was more tongue-in-cheek) and ran with it.
@NightshadeRealm
Lmao it’s funny how you see people saying she hates gojo or they hate eachother or smth 😭 like where did that come from did we read the same manga
Momo is really funny in the English Dub of Jujutsu Kaisen. Her little, "Oh shit!" when Kenjaku and Uraume deflected her attack was so genuine 😭
I legit believe someone would say that in that exact situation. That was legit shock.
Other smaller evidence exists in the form of their phone call. This consists a beeper code, where the number of their call spells out "I like you" in code, and another interesting detail is that Satoru calls Utahime from his recent contacts, implying that he calls her often.
They're married, actually 😌
Bicker like an old married couple, but still care so deeply about their kids. And Gojo is still so sweet – setting up the baseball match purely because he knows his wife would be the most excited ♥︎
I think a big part of the appeal of Gjhm for me is that Utahime is older.
Idk. Having to wade through the constant shit of misogynists calling women "used up" after 25 just really makes me appreciate the dynamic of a younger man going absolutely feral for an older woman
The most fun I've had with a ship and the most welcome I've felt. The community is so nice, and I love the dynamic between Gojo and Utahime, especially with the little details Gege throws in like Utahime's Technique being a love song and how the singer uses Gojo's hand sign 👀
Literally has some of the least screentime of any character while still managing to be packed to bursting with personality and potential – also manages to routinely rank in the Top 15 in popularity contests and is the 3rd most loved female character in the Eastern Fanbase +
Gojo and Utahime were made to be opposites. Aside from the obvious "opposites attract" trope, it creates a compelling visual story between them. Man & woman, strong & weak, modern & traditional, blue & red. Satoru hates alcohol and loves sweets while Utahime is the opposite
Bakauke has two mascots known as Borin and Barin, who are girlfriend and boyfriend. When Bakauke collabed with Jujutsu Kaisen, Utahime and Gojo were chosen to represent the Borin and Barin respectively, thus being depicted as girlfriend and boyfriend.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans have a way of seeing a character lose one time and immediately calling them weak, useless, bums, etc
Happened to Geto, happened to Yuki, happened even to Gojo, and now Kenjaku is the most recent victim
Wow we really went from ‘Kenjaku takes no Ls’ to ‘he’s a bum’ after one loss to the most unpredictable CT in the verse mixed with the second strongest of the modern age?
Just a minor pet-peeve, but calling Mei Mei a pedophile kind of ignores a lot of the depth of her character. She's absolutely grooming Ui Ui, but people forget grooming doesn't always have to be for sexual purposes
If true, it makes sense why Shibuya happened so quickly. He wanted any excuse to get away from the cookie-cutter ass school environment editors force a lot of battle shounen into being 💀
As you can see, GojoHime has a lot of thought put into it, and it's very interesting to see the little details Gege has put into their dynamic. There's definitely a reason why so many adore this pairing, and I'm glad Gege has paid attention to that.
This makes sense when you remember Gege said Gojo sees her "bad attitude" as a joke.
From his perspective, Utahime biting back at him really is just playful banter, and that's so funny. She's genuinely annoyed, and he just thinks they're playing 💀
It's rare that Gojo is concerned about the feelings of others,but here he seems worried about Utahime being angry.
To think Gojo would be worried if Utahime was mad at him😭.He really is just clueless,he genuinely just loves bantering with her & thinks Utahime feels the same😂
In Japan, this is a symbol often used for weddings. It's meant for good luck because "a shot arrow does not return," and therefore, a married woman does not (or should not) return to her parents.
Gege said Gojo only puts down his Technique with people he trusts, which we see him do with Utahime. He trusts her enough to have to actively put his Technique back in place after she throws a teacup at him.
It's always wild to me that the same people who claim they "actually care" about Utahime and are "protecting her" from GojoHime shippers (whatever that means) blatantly refer to her as a "self-insert."
She has a great dynamic with her students! Utahime is canonically considered well-liked by everyone and she's shown to be very caring towards her students. That being said, she isn't scared of being mouthy
Jujutsu Kaisen isn't a romance series. It's a horror action series that focuses more on platonic bonds and camaraderie between its characters. That being said, just as any shounen series, it has its fair share of ships, each with its own assortment of crumbs and small details.
Loneliness is a theme that is heavily prevalent in Kenjaku's character. We are continuously fed hints throughout the series that he is a deeply lonely individual and his interactions with other characters put further emphasis on this fact
Firstly, his relationship with Yuki. Yuki is Kenjaku's foil. They have clear ideological differences that are brought up the moment they face each other for the first time
The first clues we are given is this panel in the manga where Kenjaku ponders regret. The second is his cover, which has characters behind him that translate to "loneliness"
[Credit to Kyle for the Translation]
This may seem like a stretch, but I genuinely am starting to believe those who violently hate Gjhm to this level – going out of their way to harass fans and ignore blatant canon – have no respect for narrative as an art form and have no respect for Japanese as a language
Yūta took advantage of Kenjaku's weakness in that moment to strike him down. The moment where he isn't lonely anymore is the moment where he stumbles and his plans come crashing down
The records from the singer, Akina Nakamori, are called Utahime records, and the singer even does Gojo's unlimited void hand sign during her live performances of her song, "Fin."
Why do people freak out so much when people make fanart/fanfic or theories about Utahime being pregnant?
"You're treating her like a breeding cow!"
Bruh, what? If the /idea/ of a woman being pregnant makes you think of a "breeding cow," maybe YOU'RE the sexist one
This can also be seen with how he treats Yūji. Similarly to Tengen, he dehumanizes Yūji, but has been seen going out of his way to defend him, albeit in roundabout ways.
He kills the higher-ups who called for his execution and even thanks Sasaki for being Yūji's friend
It's literally stated over and over that Sorcerers "aren't heroes" and how ALL of them "have a couple of screws loose." Idk why people don't think that also extends to their relationships.
Amazing how I can EXPLICITLY state in the thread that no ship is Canon & it has nothing to do with other ships + was solely made because I like Gjhm, and yet some chucklefuck can STILL manage to accuse me of claiming it's canon while telling me to "grow up."
We are so cooked 💀
He even goes so far as to praise her abilities in combat, asking himself if he can even beat her. Kenjaku is seen praising ingenuity multiple times, so this is a genuine compliment from him. An acknowledgment of Yuki's skill
#GojoHime
I need Utahime to peg Gojo so hard. Just take all of her annoyance out on him as payback for all of his teasing.
When he starts crying from overstim, she just coos out in the most sickeningly sweet voice, "You cryin', Satoru?"
He only lets this mask slip when he's speaking to them alone or speaking about them to people he deems inconsequential. Despite all of the awful things Kenjaku says about Tengen, he still refers to her as his friend
@ShoopsNChicks
I like how het men are apparently the only ones who can't control themselves because I'm attracted to women too, but you won't see me gawking at other women
It's called seeing women as people instead of as sex objects. A lot of these "Christian men" fail that step 💀
Good for him. I think he made the right decision. Jujutsu Kaisen is infinitely more interesting and unique when it's not being forced into a slice-of-life "monster of the week" mold
His words of kindness to Takaba were genuine. His assurance that he was funny was genuine. It was, however, that moment of genuine connection from Kenjaku where he finally let his walls down that costed him greatly
GojoHime is a particularly interesting ship to look at. Being a massive fan of it myself, it's fun to pick through the evidence that supports it. I'd like to share the evidence that I and many other GojoHime fans have found.
Gojo has a way of firing Utahime up and she is also prone to being a bit of a scaredy-cat and a crybaby. We also see her more competitive side come out during the baseball tournament between Kyoto and Tokyo.
I don't even care about what will be canon or endgame, but at this point, the harassment of gjhm shippers has gotten so fucking insane I just want them to end up as a couple out of spite 💀
It's tragic and will likely only reinforce Kenjaku's bias, that opening up to others can have devestating consequences. Even so, even if it was only briefly, Takaba managed to get closer to Kenjaku than many others could ever hope to,
I don't know why these people are allergic to the idea of analyzing art for a deeper meaning or why they think authors just never intentionally add these details 💀
Do they think we just write with no planning? Mangaka put a lot of effort into their craft
Gege: adds stuff like Jacob's Ladder, Angel's existence and "The Fallen" for Sukuna; all biblical references.
Quotes: Oh brother, they're quoting the bible for JJK? It's not that deep. 🤢
You can't make this up. 😭
Purely because Takaba understood and empathized with Kenjaku and how he felt.
Love is a curse, and this extends just as much to the desire for connection and acceptance from others.
can we stop accusing people just because they don't like an mlm ship? a lot of gjhm shippers are queer and ship this pairing simply bc they find the dynamic interesting. a lot of the shippers i know also ship nanago (myself included), so yes, we can also picture him with a man.
He tends to deflect and dehumanize the people he's the most emotionally vulnerable towards. This could likely be a defense mechanism, a way to separate himself from human connections
He also goes out of his way to talk to her Curse Form when alone, even when she can't respond. This could be seen as him struggling to let her go and clinging to a past relationship, even as he's putting his walls up and insulting her
I'll never understand how people think a character being dead means they're poorly written.
A character can exist for a single chapter and still be a good character if they're written well enough. A character dying doesn't automatically dismiss their quality.
Longevity ≠ good
Gojo had a picture of Waka Inoue as his background as a teenager. He clearly finds her attractive, as is common, considering she's a popular model, but the reason why this is important is that Inoue shares a lot of similarities with Utahime.
Gege clearly likes that type of pairing, which isn't surprising given the bickering couple is a popular trope in romance. It's not unusual for Mangaka to reuse old ideas, and that seems to be what happened with Gojo and Utahime. Even their appearances share similarities.
I think everyone has the right to hate whatever character they want without explanation. . .BUT I will side eye you so hard depending on how you talk about these women
Moving on to Utahime's Cursed Technique, as some Japanese fans have pointed out, Utahime's Soro Soro Kinku (Solo Forbidden Area) is based on a real love song about forbidden love with lyrics about a masked lover.
Before I start in earnest, I want to clarify that this isn't made to attack any other ship. People can ship whatever they want, and no ship in the series is canon (aside from exceptions like Hakari and Kirara). I like GojoHime so I want to talk about it. That's really it.
He states they have to be his equal and that they need to interest him. It feels very in line with a character driven by his curiosity and a need to experience life that he would seek out companionship from people who are his equals in strength and intellect
Finally, we get to his most current and important relationship in the Manga: Takaba Fumihiko.
Takaba, like Kenjaku, has lived a lonely life. His entire reasoning for becoming a comedian was because he wanted to make people laugh so they'd like him and be his friend
In Kamishiro Sosa, we have a similar set-up as before. The male protagonist, Ganji, is very energetic and careless with the female protagonist, Rekko's, feelings, and is seen to have a very similar type of banter as Gojo and Utahime have.
In Nikai Bongai Barabarujura, the protagonist, Noroma, reminds me of teen Gojo in appearance and behavior. He is "the strongest" who teases Nodoka, the female protagonist, for being weak but has an obvious respect for her drive and inner strength.
@Dragonotey
Such a Gege move to go, "Okay!" and then almost IMMEDIATELY decimate the school and send the world into chaos as an excuse to get them out of that setting 💀
I expect nothing less from him
