The @Lakers were Sid Hartman’s idea. The 26-year-old convinced his wealthy buddy Ben Berger to buy the woeful Detroit Gems (4-40) for $15,000 and move them to Mpls. Hartman then signed George Mikan, Jim Pollard, Vern Mikkelsen & Coach John Kundla. The great franchise was born.

D3 @CrownCollegeMBB , located just outside of Waconia, is for real. Tonight they beat an undefeated Macalester team 64-61 as a 3 at the buzzer rolls out for Scots. Despite injury issues, Crown is now 7-1 overall and 3-1 against MIAC teams. They take on D1 St Thomas on Saturday.

. @MSHSLjohn , With shot clock added, can we eliminate the 5 seconds closely guarded rule for a player who is dribbling? It’s no longer necessary with a shot clock. It would simplify the game for players and @MSHSL_Officials . Also, it would be consistent with college rules.

Rest In Peace, Kirstie Alley. The Cheers star was in Waconia filming Drop Dead Gorgeous in 1998. She wanted to stay in a house on Lake Waconia with her kids for a night. Alley gave these local folks a night in a Minneapolis hotel and Alley’s family stayed on West Lake Street.

GBB Final: Holy Family 79 Minnetonka 68 (OT). Crump 24, Lockett 17, Hertel 14, Hall 13. But the Most Outstanding Player today was @jocelynlandd with 33 points. And there may be a new favorite in MN AA GBB.
