One thing the Red Hen situation has made abundantly clear is that the vast majority of people in the national media identify more closely with the White House press secretary than with anyone who might be in a position to cook or serve food to her in a restaurant.
I don't understand where people are getting the idea that high crime rates didn't hurt Dems. They got blown out in the 5 states with the highest murder rates.
GUIDANCE: The "scandal" around Kamala Harris claiming she was listening to Tupac and Snoop while smoking weed in college shall henceforth be known as Bonghazi.
It's really important not to lose sight of the fact that the counting delays and confusion in Pennsylvania were entirely foreseeable and preventable and the Pennsylvania GOP did not want to prevent them.
The comment I've heard most often over the past however-many-days-this has-been is a variation on "what if they denied service to you?" Never "what if you worked somewhere and someone you absolutely didn't want to serve came in?"
One fun fact about Tom Cotton is that he got his start in politics in part because, as a twentysomething Army lieutenant in Iraq, he wrote an open letter calling for the prosecution + imprisonment of three
@nytimes
journalists:
It's almost as if Obama's first-term strategy of strict enforcement and record deportations in the hopes of bringing Republicans on board with comprehensive reform ended in legislative failure and the GOP moving to the right on the issue.
Only one take-away: all of them appear to support decriminalizing illegal immigration and all of them seem to favor mass immigration. No one said a word about border security or enforcement. Basic impression: huge shift to the left of Obama-Biden.
My favorite Mark Kelly/Gabby Giffords fact is that Gabby's wedding ring is inscribed with "You're the closest to heaven that I've ever been," a quote from the Goo Goo Dolls' 1998 hit 'Iris' and a sweet and unironic Gen X moment.
"Homicides in the U.S. dropped significantly in 2022 and have plummeted even faster this year, putting the country on track for one of the biggest declines in killing ever recorded, crime statistics show."
Surprised to hear that? You're not alone:
"Ben Shapiro has gotten 56 million total interactions on his Facebook page in the last 30 days. That’s more than the main pages of ABC News, NBC News, The New York Times, The Washington Post and NPR combined."
Not to put to fine of a point on it but the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney with jurisdiction over NC-9's allegedly fraudulent election spent a big chunk of the past year prosecuting individual immigrants for voting by mistake.
If I were applying for this job I would pitch shifting the beat away from its historical focus on Ivy League schools and elite private institutions and towards culture at the huge public schools that most Americans who attend 4-year colleges attend.
Arguments about whether there was some principle behind McConnell blocking Garland that should apply in this case are stupid. McConnell blocked Garland because
a) the stakes were incredibly high
and
b) he could.
Dems still don't understand that this is about power, not process.
Anyway, very little sympathy for people who get caught by these schemes, but the most dangerous terrorists are generally NOT the guys who fall for this.
One especially fun thing here is that there's really no reason except regulation (and the massive political power of dealerships) that the average person needs to buy a car at a dealership, a bad experience that takes way too long and that almost everyone who does it loathes.
Yeah, let's not forget that Flynn reportedly advised Trump to *HOLD OFF ATTACKING ISIS*, presumably because Turkey, the country secretly paying Flynn, didn't want the U.S. to arm the Syrian Kurds. Trump agreed, delaying assault on ISIS capital for months:
SULLIVAN WARNS FLYNN OF A PRISON SENTENCE:
"You were an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the National Security Adviser to the president!
"Arguably, this undermines everything this flag over here stands for! Arguably, you sold your country out!"
"In the end, the Department of Justice and others will make that legal determination" -- Mike Pompeo on Trump's tweet suggesting the presidential election should be delayed
A year after they were separated from their families under Trump's zero tolerance policy, kids aren’t the same.
Although now reunited, the children cry constantly, have nightmares and in some cases self-harm.
At Purdue University, nearly 60 percent of undergrads leave school without any debt. Andrew Ferguson reports on how the university’s president, Mitch Daniels, has kept tuition under $10,000 for seven straight years.
I know a lot of people are focused on politics right now, but we also need to create space for the news that the pandemic is getting really, really bad to break through. Read

I can't believe we are even having this conversation, but: Sex Ed is not "grooming." It is the opposite of grooming. Abusers (who are overwhelmingly people who victims know) take advantage of kids' ignorance. More from

This piece ends on a smart note: Even a great website or app can only go so far. If you really want to reduce administrative burdens and cut the "time tax," you need to change the laws that created 26-page food-stamp applications:
Reminder that it's not even clear that the same-sex-wedding-website design request the Supreme Court of the United States just ruled on was... even a real request. The guy whose name is on it says *he never filed it.*
This video from the Times is fantastic. It also really drives home the bravery, and composure in an extremely stressful situation, of Eugene Goodman and (if you'll permit me),

asked me to lead the

The Times laid me off today, so someone else will have to take on that task. But I'm proud of the plan we put together and the work we've done. I will be rooting for LAT in the months ahead.
Scoop: Biden has begun using a CPAP machine, per sources. The device is to treat longstanding sleep apnea, one of the people said. As Biden departed the White House this morning for Chicago, indentations from the CPAP straps could be seen on his face. Story by
