The obsession with first lines/chapters having to be action packed and hook-y is limiting the success of so many beautiful, introspective books. Allow stories to be slow and thoughtful again!

Should I tell him I worked 12 hour days for 2 years in outback Australia? That I carried sheep, herded cattle and worked with horses in the 50C scorching sun? I spent my free time jumping off quad bikes to try and catch crocodiles? And I went on 5k runs every evening too...

@moniza_hossain I don't understand how it's legal? Does the US not have specific requirements and tests homeschooled kids need to do? Subjects that have to be covered etc? Kids need to be taught certain things to be able to participate meaningfully in society.

I'll get hunted down but I think new writers who plot heavily often lack character interiority bc they get too focused on getting their characters into planned scenes w/o *listening* to their characters. It's a tough skill and one you can only hone by doing some pantsing imo. 1/3

You can have strong characters & a solid plot, but readers won’t connect w/ your story if it’s missing this key element—& many stories are. This is one of the most misunderstood concepts in fiction writing (& one of the most common elements I discuss w/ writers as an editor): 🧵

What is it with writers always moaning about how much they hate the writing process? Am I the only one who LOVES writing? Sure, there are tough days where I push through or need a break but I can't think of anything I hate about the process of writing a book.

I've been fairly quiet on this matter but Cait Corrain does NOT get to use autism as a shield. We all struggle. It's a daily battle for all ND ppl yet we don't attack others - especially marginalised ppl. Don't use mental health struggles as an excuse for inexcusable behaviour.

The worst thing about an invisible illness/disability is that every time someone doubts the validity of your diagnosis, that voice at the back of your head starts screaming "what if they're right? If it's all in your head?" and it's so damn hard to push aside that thought.
