NYSEG uses the term assessing in larger outages to indicate we are out and working, assuring down wires are made safe and deactivated. Due to the amount of damage it is taking longer. We will provide restoration times as soon as they become available.
Our crews made significant restoration progress today, including restoring five of the seven transmission lines that were out of service, setting poles and restoring critical facilities. Work will continue overnight and focus on key priorities.

We continue working to restore service to customers impacted by Winter Storm Olive. The majority of customers in Wyoming and Erie Counties will be restored by 11 p.m. Crews will continue to work overnight, into Friday to restore the remainder of customers.

Western NY still experiencing gusts in excess of 40 mph and 50 mph in other parts of the state. This is still an active weather event. Infrastructure repair and restoration of service will occur as it is safe to do so.
Our efforts are focused on public safety—downed live wires, trees across roadways, critical facilities (hospitals & nursing homes) and customers who rely on life-saving equipment like ventilators. Once we determine the extent of the damage, restoration times will be updated.
When restoring power, we first repair the transmission lines & substations. Then we begin repairing the distribution system that includes poles & power lines.
NYSEG and RG&E now currently has more than 2,500 line, tree, service and support personnel responding to outages following hurricane force winds moving across the state:
NYSEG reminds homeowners and contractors starting any projects that involve excavation or digging to have underground utilities marked to prevent damage. The service is free. To schedule visit or call 811, two to ten working days before digging begins.

More than 650 field personnel are actively engaged in the Brewster divisions restoration effort to address incidents like those seen below. The division suffered more than 400 downed wires, in addition to dozens of broken poles and fallen trees and limbs.
There are currently more than 2,000 personnel responding to the storm. Crews and contractors including those from assisting utilities out of Maine, Connecticut and Canada are expected to continue to work on restoration efforts until all customers are restored
Crews are currently addressing potential safety threats, such as downed wires & broken poles. During this phase, we work to restore service to hospitals, first responders & emergency evacuation centers vital to public safety as directed by local & state officials
In Dutchess, Putnam & Westchester counties alone, more than 161 poles were destroyed and more than 1300 wires were brought down. Our crews are continuing restoration efforts and estimate 50% of total impacted customers will be restored on Thur. Learn more:

Restoration efforts are underway across our service areas, but the damage caused by this spring snowstorm is extensive. Due to the heavy, wet consistency of the snow, limbs and entire trees are blocking roads and have taken down poles and wires.
Our concern in the aftermath of a storm is the safety of you and our employees. Downed trees & other hazards made countless roads impassable and unsafe. Our crews have been working to make these situations safe.
