Thanks Mike. We've lost more than 21,000 jobs in higher ed. Not just academics - lots of folks work at our unis, including tradies! The Govt either doesn't care, or has egged it on with funding cuts.
#SaveHigherEd
Tradies are understandably cranky about not being allowed to work in greater Sydney. Fair enough. But what about the hundreds of university academics who've lost their jobs nationwide ? The Liberals hate universities...
Reports that gift-cards have been proposed as substitute payments for work by casual staff is deeply concerning.
Our hard working casuals deserve to be paid every cent they earn, anything short of that is indecent.

Scott Morrison has conceded he was wrong to exclude higher education staff from job keeper, driving 17,000 people into unemployment.
Speaking at a press conference Scott Morrison was philosophical "I don't hold a PhD mate, but in retrospect this was ideological & heartless."
Murdoch University management has withdrawn its legal case against whistleblower Gerd Schröder-Turk. Over 38,000 of you stood with Gerd. This is a massive win for union members and for academic freedom.

Imagine if the billions in taxpayer funds given to Harvey Norman & other profitable companies were handed back and used to save jobs in education & the arts.
