“Educating girls is the closest thing to a silver bullet in human development”.... @NStottDespoja as she receives her honorary doctorate at her beloved alma mater @UniofAdelaide . A beautiful ceremony.

What a sad day. I sang for the Queen in March 1986 in Adelaide. Privileged to meet her on a couple occasions, including while a Senator. Regardless of your views on monarchy, she’s been an extraordinary leader, an unparalleled female leader. Hearts are heavy today.

Thanks for bearing with me this week. Injuries from a fall meant necessary sick leave. I do realise it’s a difficult time for many people.

20 years goes by fast! I know we still have double standards & ridiculous stereotypes about #women in power, but we‘ve made progress. Hopefully, we have better notions about who can be a leader. ⁦⁩Thanks Michael Harvey & ⁦ @PhillipCoorey ⁩ for the media memories

Breakfast in Europe. Election in #Australia . Feels strange not being there... but good luck to good candidates. We need to #ChangePolitics . We can improve civil discourse & I’m desperately hoping for more women in parliament & greater diversity reflected #ausvotes @ABCTV

In a conversation over the phone, Amb @WahidWaissi congratulated @NStottDespoja as the first Australian elected to the #UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women #CEDAW . Both discussed issues of mutual interests & Afghanistan’s peace talks & women’s rights.

Thank you Minister @MarisePayne . I would be proud to serve. I am working hard to ensure that our region is reflected & represented on #CEDAW . The support of government & #civilsociety is crucial to the Committee’s success.

I strongly support @NStottDespoja , an excellent candidate for #CEDAW . She would be the first Australian since 1992 to be a member of the Committee.🇦🇺🇺🇳 @AusAmbGender @Kate_Jenkins_ @officeforwomen @AustraliaUN_GVA @AustraliaUN @UN_Women #Natasha4CEDAW
