BREAKING: Organized LFF bakery workers recover $50K more in wages, totalling $100K so far since their daily protest began on Aug 28. LFF’s owner says that he will submit a payment plan in writing for the remaining amount today. The workers’ protest continues. Stay tuned.

Workers are exploited because this system was not made for us. Domestic students can work for as many hours as they like, but int’l students can’t. When Canada saw a labour shortage under the pandemic, for some time international students were allowed to work up to 40 hrs.

One Brampton funeral home sees 4-5 int’l students’ bodies per month — due to suicide, heart attacks & dangerous workplace conditions. Meanwhile, employers like Chat Hut open new restaurants. Employers know that we need jobs to survive & get PR. They profit from our suffering.

A white police sergeant then threatened to call the riot squad against NSN members & arrest every one of us, including elders & young children, even after we explained why we were protesting. We did not waver & continued our protest until all were free from police questioning.

👉🏾Chat Hut exploited her immigration status by saying they’d help her with PR, and then broke their promise. When the worker requested she be paid min wage, the employer refused and said she would need to work below the minimum wage for another year. Exhausted, the worker quit.

👉🏾Chat Hut relies on underpaying their workers for profit. They told this worker they couldn’t pay her minimum wage because they were struggling under the pandemic. But in reality, they were able to open a second location in 2020 and are now getting ready to open a third.
