Incel is not just a synonym for "virgn", they're a group with an ideology that includes feeling entitled to sex. Incels believe they're owed sex, and so they're not generally willing to pay for it - they're also a violent group who put sex workers at risk when they see us.

OnlyFans backpedalling and suspending their plans to ban porn on October 1st is a good thing, not because OnlyFans is forgiven and suddenly trustworthy (they aren't, and sex workers should look into using multiple platforms), but because it shows pressuring them has an impact.

If you find he/him lesbians weird, but are totally cool with the idea of gay men calling each other "she" (think: casual slang, polari, and also drag culture), consider that lesbians are also allowed to have complicated gender expression and relation to gender.

@GennHutchison @MaraWilson The obsession with forcing people to work constantly, because of this capitalist mindset we're all poisoned with, definitely hurts disabled people even more than everyone else. People get too much leeway, with able-bodied ppl assuming it's accidental. The ableism is intentional.

It is not helpful to give out false information about binding to combat TERFs who demonize it. Wearing a binder long-term, especially every day, is uncomfortable. It's pretty common that it causes some pain or skin irritation. You don't need to lie about that - so do bras! 🧵

@KatyMontgomerie I've had "gender critical" activists tell me that I don't pass and that they can tell I'm female or whatever, whilst in the same breath saying that because I pass as a man it's reasonable to bar me from women's spaces... it doesn't add up.

When you frame sex workers as all being "mothers who just want to feed their children", you're implying that sex work is only okay if you have some noble cause beyond just wanting to earn money to live. Our worth isn't based on whether we have kids.

Sex workers do not exist as a buffer between violent men who feel entitled to sex and members of the public who are considered more respectable. When you encourage incels to pay for sex, you're suggesting that sex workers see dangerous clients who will harm us.

"Sugar babies" are often some of the most at-risk sex workers, and they're frequently not even self-aware that they're sex workers and lack the support the rest of us have for each other. Most sugar babies aren't super rich, they're clueless teens paid less than escorts.

I'm so sick of seeing people talk about breaking down stigma about sex work by showing they're "one of the good ones", bragging that they don't do drugs or don't come from a background of abuse. I'm not interested in throwing other sex workers under the bus. I want solidarity.

When I hear someone argue for a higher age requirement for various forms of sex work, whether that's 21 or 25 and whether it's online or strip clubs or selling sex... all I hear is "I want to make sex work illegal just for younger adults, and to force them into riskier options".

The genre of advice that's like "before you start sex work, decide whether it's worth losing your family and friends over the stigma if/when they find out" isn't all that helpful, since the majority of people getting into sex work need the money too badly to consider that.

Wearing a binder for many hours a day, especially because the front of the binder is rigid for the purpose of flattening, means you're likely to sweat more with it getting trapped under the breast tissue - this causes skin irritation. Bras cause skin irritation the same way!

Worth noting though that arrests purely for possession of testosterone are rare, and that while people should take precautions we also shouldn't overstate the danger. Buying T and DIYing was actually relatively low risk and so much better than not being on it, for me. 🧵

Please stop telling trans people on testosterone to "just DIY". T is a controlled substance in most places, bc it is an anabolic steroid. At minimum, you need to be telling people that they are risking fines, possibly imprisonment, when you tell them to "just DIY".

Something to keep in mind: poverty is degrading. Selling sex, no matter how you moralize about it, involves less degradation for many of us than to suffer worse poverty. The indignities that come with being poor should not be minimized - sex work is often preferable to that.

They way to protect people from risks associated with long-term binding is to make top surgery accessible to those who want it, so they won't feel the need to bind unsafely or have to do physical labour while binding that risks them breaking a rib or straining muscles badly!

Sex work is feminized labour and is primarily done by women. Sex work has a low barrier to entry and therefore allows marginalized people to make money and survive. These are some of the main reasons people oppose it. I can say that WITHOUT acting like sex workers are ALL women.

With sex work, there's a significant risk your family will find out even if you want to keep it from them. When someone tells me they want to get into sex work (and it isn't a last resort) I tell them to think about it as a matter of "when" family find out, not "if".

Clients who are abusive will tend to seek out sex workers who are the most vulnerable, so when you're an extremely vulnerable sex worker (think: homeless, struggling with addiction, disabled, very poor, new to selling sex) it's easy to believe that all clients are abusive.

If someone wants me to stop selling sex, they can either put their money where their mouth is and pay my rent and bills, or I'm gonna do what I need to do to be able to pay for those things. It's that simple.

@Swim_England The concern here only seems to be cis women. There is no concern raised by @Swim_England for the fact that trans women will be at a disadvantage in the "open" category, despite recognizing that HRT puts trans women at a disadvantage to cis men (obviously).

It is very, very important to me that people know: legal crackdowns on sex workers, and anti-sexwork rules from payment processors, are why this is happening. They do this to sex work, using "trafficking" as a boogeyman, and then move on to all adult content.

Patreon implemented a TOS rule for monitoring users off-site. Now it's used to police adult creators' careers. A gay hypnosis erotica site & adult artist @Slugbox both walked away after Patreon's demands for off-site censorship. For @dailydot

Criminalizing our clients, and therefore our source of income, only makes it even harder for us to earn the money we need to survive. Sex workers need full decriminalization, not the nordic model.

@Dleetafterdeath Incel is not just a synonym for "virgn", they're a group with an ideology that includes feeling entitled to sex. Incels believe they're owed sex, and so they're not generally willing to pay for it - they're also a violent group who put sex workers at risk when they see us.

Sex therapy (going to see a therapist to discuss your sexual hangups and concerns) and paying for sex (hiring a sex worker) are not the same thing, and should not be conflated. Paying for sex is not therapy. Your therapist fucking you would be absolutely crossing boundaries.

Clients of sex workers really need to understand that during bookings with a lot of them, the work is mentally exhausting as well as physically exhausting. They seem to think they're doing us a favour if there's less sex, but even just going to dinner with one usually sucks.

Here's a mini zine I made on how to be a good friend to sex workers! Keep in mind that allyship takes active effort!

I choose to be open about my experiences, both with being trans and with sex work, but it is exhausting to have so many people take that as an excuse to ask extremely personal questions about trauma. Like idk, mix it up a little, ask me something chill for once.

"Pre-Prostitution Jitters" - A discussion of the panic reaction many of us get just before seeing a client, especially if we've taken a break from selling sex, and where it might come from or what we can do.

Come give this a read - I wrote about some of the reasons trans men and transmasc non-binary people go uncounted among sex worker populations, leading to a lack of resources for us because people assume they're not needed. There are more of us than you know!

Clients are not willing to pay the same amount of money to see people of certain demographics. Clients expect to pay less to see trans and/or black and/or immigrant sex workers. There are of course exceptions and high earners in any category, but this is the case generally.

If there's a higher age requirement for strip clubs, those 18 yr olds will go and sell sex instead. If there's a higher age requirement for onlyfans, those 18 yr olds will go and sell sex instead. And when they sell sex they'll have less access to resources and be criminalized.
