Music Aloud annual roundup for 2023. Nine lists this time - 222 of my favourite songs from Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Web Series, Indian Indie/Pop and Coke Studio. Playlists on Apple, Spotify and YouTube as usual. Check it out? :)
Songs and music review of Justin Prabhakaran and Raj Shekhar's Meenakshi Sundareshwar, with complete album credits. Spectacular Bollywood debut from the composer!

Has tagged even the stunt choreographer who I'm pretty sure hasn't much to do with the song, but not the singer (Shilpa Rao) or lyricist (Arunraja Kamaraj). A label/director/producer doing this is still par for the course, but from a music director this is very disappointing.
Arijit Singh's new indie single, written by Shloke Lal. The musician takes it upon himself to explore his voice more in the lower registers, since other composers aren't doing it often enough (like he did in Pagglait as well). :)
Rooh Jaga Doon:
Recording session of the gem called Netru Illaadha Maatram from Pudhiya Mugam, featuring ARR, H Sridhar and Sujatha - from NCAA archives. Cute video this is, they seem all shy and awkward about the shooting. :D
Exhilarated to present to you all, a cover for the ever peppy

from Kadhalan. All the more elated to collaborate with the music maestro
@Rajheshvaidhya
on this. Sheer joy!!
A bit last minute with this one, this year. :) Music Aloud Annual Roundup for 2021! Best of Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Indie/Indipop, other language films & a new list for instrumental themes this time. Playlists on Apple, Spotify & YT. Check them out?
First review of the year. Ghibran's Maara. The composer matches up to Gopi Sunder's work in the original with a soundtrack that is a wonderful throwback to his early day compositions.

Alright then. My favourite songs from 2017 - lists for Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Indie + Indipop and a miscellaneous set of film songs from other languages. With Youtube and Apple Music playlists in each case. Check out?
Right then. Music Aloud annual roundup for 2022. My favourites of the year from Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and Indie/Pop. And a small one at the end from Coke Studio season 14. Check them out? :)
Even had a phase where we would download songs in the lab computer, split the songs into 2-3 parts so they would fit into floppy disks (because those computers only had floppy drives activated), and reassemble them after taking the disks back to hostel 😂
A bit late watching this - excellent compilation of sarangi and dilruba solos from A R Rahman songs, with the song and musician named in each case. Amazing to see how the instruments have been employed across such diverse genres!
Going to consider musicaloud as my "job" for this purpose (since actual job has nothing that remotely qualifies as cool 😭). At the BBC studio in London a few years ago 🙂
The legend Yesudas turns 78 today. No time for a new playlist so replugging an old Malayalam-Tamil-Hindi playlist of mine from when he completed 50 years of playback. Some songs have since been removed, looks like, but still long enough. :)
Alright,my annual roundup for 2018. Top songs(with YT & Apple playlists) from Hindi,Malayalam,Tamil,Indie/pop & a misc assortment for other language films. Plus a new category: instrumentals in film, since there were quite a few good ones this year. Read?
Music Aloud turns a teen today :D Just resharing our curator channels, in case you are yet to check them out. Thanks as always to everyone who has engaged with us all these years :)

Veteran composer M K Arjunan passes away. Nearly a 1000 songs in over 200

films+albums, a quarter of which were with lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi. Man also gave ARR his first break as keyboardist in the 80s. Plugging a favourite from Master.

Birthday no. 14 for this little side project of mine. I wanted to get all my "Currently on Loop" playlists updated in time for this, but a busy weekend happened. Hoping to still do it today or by tomorrow. Thanks, as always, for engaging with whatever I share here 🙂
Music Aloud Annual Roundup for 2020. Six lists this time - Bollywood, Malayalam, Tamil, Indie/Indipop, best of other language films and a new one for web series. Playlists are up on Apple, Spotify and YouTube. Do check it out! :)
Two songs from the upcoming movie Kamli.
Mukhra, which is a Baba Bulleh Shah piece set to music by Zulfiqar Ali and Saad Sultan. Atif Aslam on vocals. Beautifully soulful composition.

Padmaavat. Shortest soundtrack for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie in a long time, that is nevertheless very much identifiable with the man's usual musical style. Songs and review.
Shreya Ghoshal and the Berklee Indian Ensemble cover D Imman and Yugabharathi's Sundari Pennae (originally sung by Shreya herself), from the movie Oru Oorla Rendu Raja. Nicely done!

Amazing concert by the Ayoub Sisters last night. Great mix of originals & covers of folk, classical & pop songs, but the biggest surprise for me was a Celtic-influenced cover of Nagada Sang Dhol from Ram-Leela!😃 Some more video snippets from the gig here:
Hi2all. Made a

playlist for the first time. :) Top songs of one of my fav contemporary Bengali composers, Indraadip Dasgupta. Features some lovely melodies. Check it out?

It's been a night of revisits - currently on this absolute gem of a Raasathi cover by Job Kurian & a bunch of incredible musicians (Josy Alappuzha,Prakash Hariharan,Yakzan,Santosh Chandran all favs). Doubt I'll ever love an ARR song tribute more than this.
Songs and music review of Vellai Yaanai, with complete musician credits.
Music: Santhosh Narayanan
Lyrics: Raju Murugan, Uma Devi, Anthony Daasan, Arivu

I will never understand why albums like No One Killed Jessica, Aamir, Delhi Belly etc are not officially present on any streaming platform. It is like labels have an aversion to brilliant offbeat music.
Song 1 from Laal Singh Chaddha, Kahaani. That dreamy Barfi-esque sound - have missed this from Pritam! :) Written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and sung by Mohan Kannan. This one is going to be on loop for a while.
#hindi
Next song from Manmarziyaan. Grey wala shade. NOW we are talking! What a beauty from Amit T, Shellee and Harshdeep Kaur and Jazim Sharma (who sounds a bit like RFAK, but in a non-boring way)!
Reposting an old tribute post on the occasion of A R Rahman's birthday. A set of 15 songs by singers who made their playback debut with ARR. Replicated the playlist on Apple as well now (one short, since Sillunu Oru Kaadhal isn't on the platform).
It's the birthday of one of my favouritest composers - Vidyasagar. Reposting a

Song 2. "Main Ki Karaan?" Lovely melodic track once again. :) Sonu Nigam and Romy. Sort of the "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" of this movie I guess.

New single by Salim Sulaiman, Muraliya, sung by Shreya Ghoshal and written by Shradha Pandit (the singer, I presume). Nicely done classical-electronic fusion. Shreya's singing and Paras Nath's flute in particular - so good.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that August 15, 1992 changed Indian cinema forever.
This was the day when Mani Ratnam’s Roja was released. More importantly, this marked the debut of the musical storm -- Isai Puyal -- from Madras

Great song, and a great video. Love how the lyrics have been presented. Nice to see composing credits for the individual instruments as well. Really hope Arijit gets another movie composing assignment in the near future. Man clearly has so much more to offer on that front.
Music Aloud turns 10 today. :) Wanted to a playlist or something, but couldn't find the time. Feels fitting to be reposting a review in fact, since that remains the primary purpose of this site. Quite happy with whatever we have managed to do in these ten years +
Songs and review (with complete musician credits) of Hrishikesh-Saurabh-Jasraj and Vaibhav Joshi's spectacular soundtrack for Anandi Gopal - easily the composers' best work to date.

59th birthday of the legend Chithra. 30 Years since the release of Roja soundtrack. Good day to replug an updated version of this old ARR-Chithra playlist of mine. :)

Lovely cover of Dil Chahta Hai by the Berklee Indian Ensemble, featuring 112 artists from 21 countries, with Shankar Mahadevan in the lead. And a brilliantly edited video as well. Wish it had also featured Ehsaan, Loy and Javed Akhtar, though.
A bit too last minute on this, this time. But if you are not doing much this NYE, please to be checking out my annual music roundup :) Best songs of 2019, with playlists, from Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Indian Indie/pop and one covering other language films.
Medley of ARR's Adiye and Santhosh Narayanan's Maya Nadhi by Anne Amie, with Sumesh Parameswar handling the guitars and arrangement. Nicely done.

The day was understandably spent revisiting Lata Mangeshkar favourites, so put them all into a Spotify playlist. No particular order or theme, just songs that kept coming to mind as I went down that rabbit hole. All Hindi, bar her only Malayalam song.
Song 1 from Iravin Nizhal - Maayavaa Thooyavaa. Lovely retro-style melodic piece from A R Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal and Madhan Karky. :)

45 Ragas by Jayanthi Kumaresh. A beautiful 113 minute long rendition where she explores 45 different ragas on her Saraswathi Veena. Available on OK Listen: (good to see they have started featuring classical albums now). List of ragas in the image.
Musicaloud turns 11 today. No bday post, because I completely forgot 🙈 (thanks a ton to
@NagaValley
for reminding). Reposting my playlist thread instead. Hoping to add to this more frequently this year. Thanks to everyone who continues to support us! :)
