Today I officially turn 22 YEARS OLD! Which means 6 YEARS AGO I was part of Educating Yorkshire. Thank you to everyone for the consistent support over the years.
Today I officially turn 23 YEARS OLD! Which means 7 YEARS AGO I was on Educating Yorkshire. Thank you from the bottom of my heart in allowing me to live life as a motivational speaker.
Today I turn 24 years old! Which means 8 YEARS AGO I was on Educating Yorkshire. Thank you from the bottom of my heart in allowing me to live life as a motivational speaker and YouTuber. God bless you all for the love!
Today I officially turn 25 YEARS OLD (a quarter of a century in the books). Which means 9 YEARS AGO I was on Educating Yorkshire. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love throughout the years.
Truly honoured and humbled for all the lovely messages I’m receiving. It’s been a surreal journey. I am so proud to say I am now a motivational speaker. If you’re interested in booking myself in for a keynote, feel free to get into contact. Thank you ♥️

Today I turn 27 YEARS OLD. Which means 11 YEARS AGO I was on Educating Yorkshire. I am so fortunate to live life sharing the power of teachers. I am proud to be someone who stammers, something one teacher helped me to accept in the classroom. Thank you to everyone for the
From sitting in the classroom and contemplating if life would ever accept me for having a stammer, to going to university and graduating. I can’t sum up in words how proud I am and how much my teachers’ changed my life. You can truly achieve anything you put your mind to!
For weeks I’ve contemplated my existence, trying to understand where I fit in the world. Today I woke up aged 26 realising how important my life is. 10 YEARS AGO I featured on Educating Yorkshire and life has been crazy. Thank you for the support throughout the years. God bless
Proud of myself to see how far I’ve come. Still can’t believe I am now a motivational speaker! If you’d like me to come visit your school please do get in touch. I would love to get involved!
The beauty of this photo is knowing that behind every student is an inspiring teacher who proceeds to navigate a struggling child to overcome their personal barriers. If you’re a teacher reading this, thank you for going into a profession to change a child’s life for the better
I’ve never felt this low in life. Challenges in both my personal and professional life which have sadly made me question my existence. I’m slowly getting better. As difficult as this is, I wanted to express how important it is to speak up. If you ever feel the same, seek help.
Nobody ever believed I would overcome my stammer apart from Mr Burton. Today
@MatthewCBurton
walks into Thornhill Community Academy as the new Headteacher of the school. I can’t begin to explain how proud I am. Thank you for believing in me...Sir. Non-alcoholic drinks are on me!
I just want to say since my tweet from a couple of days ago about 6 years on from Educating Yorkshire the love has been surreal. I can’t describe in words how fortunate I am for all your love. I am proud of stammering and I am so lucky for everyones’ support.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has sent me messages of encouragement. I believe it’s best for me to take time away from social media to reassess my life and overcome the challenges I am facing. I promise I’ll come back stronger. I’ll see you all soon. M.A❤️
Inspiring to see someone who once had a stammer now the president of the United States. That’s it... I am now running for Prime Minister in the next general election.
Kindly request everyone to please pray for my father who suffered a heart attack last night. Life is too short. Tell your loved ones how much you love them before it’s too late.
Went to Tesco earlier and had a lovely lady tell me how proud she was of my YOUNGER BROTHER for overcoming his stammer and making her cry. This can be taken in two ways. A) I am growing old. B) My stammering is becoming unnoticeable. Let’s just go with B
Teachers! Thank you for all your hard work, your impact goes further than you can imagine. It’s a shame current conditions are poor, but know we support you in your strikes. Strike for what’s right. Without teachers like Mr Burton, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
#teachersstrike
I don’t think people actually realise how tough it is having a stammer. The smallest of things are so difficult for us. Nice to see stammering has come a long way on from myself being on Educating Yorkshire
#schoolforstammerers
The interview went really well! Left one of the interviewers in tears. Trying to figure out whether it was because of sharing my story or my bad jokes 😅
I know this might not be a big deal to others but this is massive to me.
This is my first ever front page story and I’ve got to say I’m so proud.
When I was younger I never believed I’d go to university never mind writing as a journalist.
Thank you to everyone for the love!
Delivered a speech at a primary school a couple of months ago. At the end of the speech, a kid raised his hand and asked... “Mr Asghar, are you seeing anyone? Cause I have a sister who’s 22 and needs to get out, so I can have my own room” Kids are wonderful. Straight savage.
From the bottom of my heart thank you to every single person who kept not only my Father but my Family in their prayers during the time of my Fathers Bypass surgery. The surgery was SUCCESSFUL and my father got discharged today. Thank you to everyone once again. God bless you all
So I just bumped into the parents of the girl I potentially wanted to marry years ago. Instead of insulting them with remarks as to why they didn’t want me to marry their daughter because of my stammer I just smiled and said Hi. Show them manners. It reminds them what they lost😌
Tomorrow is my fathers Bypass surgery. Please could everyone keep him in their prayers. Need all the prayer we need that the surgery is successful (Apologies for all the recent tweets about my Father. I just really want him back home safe and sound) Thank you. Jazakallah Khair.
Went to a school recently and the teachers were finding it quite difficult to keep the students quiet for me to do my talk. Since I had the mic in my hand, I stood up and said... “U FKIN BLIND? U CANT SEE MEH?” Ended up getting a standing ovation.
My biggest dream is to speak at
@TEDTalks
. From overcoming my stammer and proving to myself that I could do it all along. Let’s make it happen! What do you think guys?
5 years ago I went to pick up my GCSE English result which everyone thought I was unable to pass. Not only did I pass, but I’m now touring the world with my former english teacher motivating kids/teachers. Whatever happens today, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
It is so sick to see people taking hundreds of pounds off people in giving them false promises of overcoming their stammer. If you need help with overcoming a stammer, my DM’s are open! NO FEE AT ALL (Please retweet to help me connect with someone who stammers)
UPDATE: Unfortunately, I didn’t get the place for my first option. BUT, I have 4 more interviews to go. I wanted to post this tweet because sometimes life doesn’t go to plan but never feel disheartened. Keep moving forward and give it your all. Thank you for all the messages ♥️
Tonight at 10PM on
@Channel4
the season finale of
#EducatingYorkshire
is airing.
No spoilers, but I think the dude with the stammer does the unthinkable if I can remember correctly with the help of his former teacher (who he still calls Mr Burton).
@MatthewCBurton
Enjoy.
I just spoke at a Headteachers conference earlier today to roughly around 150 teachers.
Was I nervous? Very much so.
Did I stammer? Definitely.
Is that bad? Absolutely not.
I’m proud of stammering and nobody can tell me otherwise. You might stammer too, and that’s okay 💚
Watford’s Ken Sema suffers with a stutter, but he bravely came out and did the post-match interview last night... ❤️
This will really help a lot of people. Anyone who suffers with a stammer knows how hard and deflating it can be. Brilliant
@Semaken
! 👏
6 years ago if you had told me I would be speaking at such a prestigious event I would have said (well stammered) that is impossible. A couple of days ago I spoke at the
@DianaAward
. Thank you to everyone for believing in me.
A massive salute to all the staff of NHS who are working on Christmas away from their loved ones saving lives. We are so fortunate to have these amazing people who unfortunately don’t get the recognition they truly deserve.
'He made me own it....It's about accepting who you are.'
@MusharafAsghar
tells
@susannareid100
about what his teacher Mr Burton did to help him.
He credits Mr Burton for the support he received.
Truly saddened to hear the death of June from Googlebox. Feels like only yesterday June and Leon were reacting to the clip of myself on Educating Yorkshire. God bless their souls.
#RIPJune
Here’s a pic of my Dad tearing up reading all the tweets you sent in wishing him a speedy recovery. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for the love and support through these tough times. Seeing him smile is something I can’t even explain. God bless you all.
Bumped into a lady at Asda the other day. She struggled to reach some cereal so I decided to help out. Instantly got recognised (so cute). Her final words before going our seperate ways were “If a stammerer is sent to jail, does he finish his sentence?”. Savage grandma on aisle 2
Just to confirm my father will be having a bypass surgery on the 2nd of January. I humbly request everyone to please keep him in your prayers. I am so fortunate for all the consistent love and support you have given us all in the past week. Thank you, Jazakallah Khair.
Been yanking on my car door for the past half an hour thinking how on earth has it frozen shut overnight. Decided to blow a hairdryer over the frame but to no avail. Realised the car was locked. Fabulous start to 2021.
There’s aren’t enough words to explain how cool, calm, collected and caring this individual is. Not to mention Mr Burton whose birthday it is today. Have a blessed one 😉
@MatthewCBurton
Because of overcoming my stammer, I am now heading to schools as a motivational speaker to help others reach their true potential. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?! Blessed. Just blessed.
Spoke at a primary school recently. After my talk, the cafeteria forgot I required a vegetarian option. A pupil heard the conversation and said “Mr Asghar, I have a cheese sandwich you can eat? I don’t mind you having it. I can eat at home”. Never tried so hard to hold back tears
Thank you to all the teachers who inspire students.
Your determination & warmth is the reason students are able to continue despite the challenges they face.
@MatthewCBurton
you will always have a special place in my heart.
Thank you for everything.
#ThankATeacher
Today I head back to my old high school after 5 YEARS since Educating Yorkshire to try and motivate and inspire the whole school! The place where it all began in overcoming my stammer. I have never been more nervous for a speech!
I recently delivered a speech at a sixth form. After finishing the speech, I had a teacher approach me and say how much I inspired her and made her realise the reason as to why she got into teaching. I am so fortunate and humbled to be in this position in my life. What an honour!
I’M GOING ON TOUR! I am so excited to show you all this production about my life growing up with a stammer and 6 years on since Educating Yorkshire. Tickets for the show are in my bio. Be sure to check it out!
Sat at the hospital with my sister (keep her in your prayers) and an old lady laying across us says, “Bloody hell! This Coronavirus has been on more holidays across the world than I have, and I’m 89!”. Cracking comedy live at Leeds General Infirmary. God bless the elderly.
After my talk at a school yesterday I had a student approach me who broke down expressing how she had faced similar adversities, but the support from her teachers inspired her to keep moving forward. Words cannot describe the impact a teacher has. Take a bow teachers. Take a bow.
Tomorrow I face the biggest challenge of my life since Educating Yorkshire. I speak in front of over 10,000 people at
#WEday
at the
@ssearena
. Nervous, but committed to inspire the kids and teachers out there. Don’t let adversity hold you back.
#BringIT
In tears for everyone and particularly my close mate Mueid. I remember 2 years ago I met Mueid and advised him how he desperately needed to go to the McGuire Programme. Very proud.
#schoolforstammerers
One of the greatest fears I and many others who stammer have is using a drive-thru. In today’s video I face that fear once again.
Please check out my latest video!
Drive Thru with a Stutter | Part 2
P.S Thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes ♥️
It’s been a horrendous year for all the A-level and GCSE students. Not only with the lack of education they’ve received but the anxiety and stress COVID has caused. Rightfully so, these students SHOULD get their predicted grades from their teachers.
Please understand these are lies ultimately trying to divide us more than we already are. Anyone who is afraid to enter Dewsbury is more than happy to drop me a message and I’ll take you to one of the best ice-cream parlours in Dewsbury. P.s it’s owned by a lovely white couple
Met an Uncle after 7 years. Started telling him about Educating Yorkshire. The dudes son looked at me dead in the eye and said “Boo-hoo pull out the violins” Never been so insulted in my life. Currently on call to immigration to get his Dad deported. Take that you little shi...
Today I just did my first interview as a journalist.
I have to admit, my stammer was more apparent than normal.
I’m actually quite proud of it to tell you the truth. I hope someone reading this understands that you can do anything you want. It’s all in your hands!
#stammer
Bullied because of a stammer, look where I am now! What a year it has been for myself. Touring all over the UK as a speaker and filming for TV. I can’t thank you all enough for the love and support. Book me at your event for 2019. I’d love to come and inspire.
#MotivationalMushy
WE have just surpassed over 50k Followers?! My god, I am speechless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have literally no words, but thank you for being part of this rollercoaster of a journey ♥️
In my childhood I was always ridiculed for stammering.
I never knew why I was picked on for something I couldn’t control.
Years later, I am immensely proud of having a stammer and you should be too.
Let’s normalise stammering together.
#InternationalStammerAwarenessDay
When my Dad was in hospital there was this elderly man who was beside my Dads bed who also had a bypass surgery. Every day, his wife would come in, help him brush his teeth, read the paper, watch telly, go for a walk and feed him. Can someone tell me where I can this love?
To all the journalists writing headlines for tomorrows papers. Don’t create headlines which incite hatred amongst each other. The sad truth is, many will face some type of remark for no reason.
I was sat in a café a couple of weeks ago in Cambridge. I bumped into a man who recognised me for giving a speech at his sons school. He explained how I inspired his son to fight his depression and is now a semi-professional footballer. It’s moments like these which I love.
Thank you to the teacher who let me charge my phone on her power bank to help me get home safe. Teachers are amazing. One helped me to find my voice and the other helped me to get home safe. Brilliant stuff. Forever grateful.
Went to Leeds for some shopping. Checking some clothes out and a 20 stone man looking like a TANK looked at me dead in the eye and said...”Mushy from Educating Yorkshire? Shake my hand! We love you in Iran” Currently in A&E as I think I’ve fractured my hand after that handshake.
A great opportunity the other day to speak live on Good Morning Britain to discuss about 10 years on from Educating Yorkshire and the power of teachers. Accept yourself and you shall definitely go far in life!

Surreal to see something like this. Absolutely honoured to have spoken at the Teach First conference last year. Thank you so much for letting me attend and share my journey. P.s Got to admit, look quite dashing 👀
Today is

Things you should NOT DO…
Never apologise for stammering.
Never think it’s a burden on you.
Never hide from it.
Your stammer is unique like you and that’s beautiful
#OWNIT
I will not be commenting any further on these deeply troubling accusations, aside from to say that I took this matter to the police myself last night. I am innocent. Trial by Twitter is wrong & this proves how dangerous social media has become.
Meet this amazing young man everyone. James has a stammer and needed some. I promised him by the end of the day I would help him say is name fluently. HE DID IT. The smile on his face I will never forget. Is this how it feels to help someone find their voice?
@MatthewCBurton
Heading over to the hospital as my sister had a mini stroke. Words can’t describe how fortunate we are for the NHS. Amazing people who unfortunately are underpaid. A service that truly deserves recognition.
Today I woke up and stammered more than I normally do.
Fellow stammerers, don’t ever feel disgruntled or ashamed for stammering.
You own your stammer (although at times the role might feel reversed). You’ve got this and you’re amazing.
Don’t give up ❤️
So I’m sat in lecture learning about documentaries and guess which off-the-wall documentary series is mentioned? P.s The lecturer has no idea I’m one of his students...
A pleasure attending
@BBCBreakfast
today alongside the lovely
@HayleyHassall
talking about stammering.
If you have a stammer, don’t give up the fight to find your voice.
Keeping going and more importantly, keep trying ♥️

@sallynugent
Thank you to Allah (SWT) for all these opportunities he has blessed me with. A massive thank you to
@TeachFirst
for the opportunity. From being mute to speaking in front of 3000 ambitious and inspiring teachers. Thank you to everyone for the love!
After speaking at schools across the UK, it's apparent the pandemic has affected a lot of children's speaking and confidence.
For this reason, I am embarking on a journey in creating a FREE online support group.
Please tag and share for those who could benefit!
Thank you💚
So my episode of
#FirstDates
was on yesterday night. Still can’t believe I actually did the show being a Pakistani Muslim. Fortunately I wasn’t shipped back home to marry a cousin who has a bigger moustache than me ahhh
The family next door who moved in recently just gave a handmade card to wish us Ramadan Mubarak. Can honestly say this is the cutest card I’ve ever seen.
P.s it was hand delivered by their 8 year old son through the letterbox 😭♥️
Moments before being welcomed to Bexhill beach by a seagull with his stool. This keynote speaking profession has taken me places I’d never have imagined. God bless you all for showing me love throughout the years 💚
Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating. I hope you all have a blessed day. Enjoy it with all your loved ones and be sure to check up on those you couldn’t unfortunately see this year. Who knows, a simple phone call could go a long way. If you’re feeling down, drop me a message.
I have just had a girl message me explaining her relationship with her boyfriend for over 3 years. How has she asked me to help motivate her to breakup with him. Marvellous. Mushy’s dating advice now available.
