Ordinarily I’m reticent to recommend something before I’m done reading it, but I have read a ton of Christian books on sex & marriage (some useful, most not) but ALL of them would be of immeasurably more use if poured through the filter of this book by @sheilagregoire et aliae.

Yesterday I sat through an extraordinary and deeply moving seminar addressing justice issues as related to complementarianism. But there was a single moment (I don’t think representative of the speaker, hence them being unnamed) that troubled me.

Today we had the funeral of Grace Church's oldest member. 86 years ago she caught polio - all her toys, books, belongings were burned and she was taken from her family & sent to live in a quarantine home - a few of the girls had been there for over a decade, one for 15 years.

I imagine many of their employees will end up working together in similar other ministries. Good. God bless such ministries of those true shepherds. But I won’t ever work alongside RZIM, with or without a name change.

Because they discredited his victim and obtained an NDA (which they broke, but held over her) RZIM were able to persuade hundreds of evangelical leaders to look the other way on the obvious disqualifying elements which were never contested.

5) To tell the Truth about it encourages Christian abusers to come forward - you must face justice, but you have not been disqualified from grace. It insists upon repentance and is a parable against cover-up.

Any suggestion that they did not know that he was a manipulative and abusive liar several years ago is, I’m afraid, patently untrue. RZIM certainly has innocent employees, but the organisation consciously partnered in abuse with constant lies & cover up & bullying.

Authorities at @UofGlasgow encouraged students to come to halls in order to make sure they could guarantee the income. Now they have all classes online & threaten students with expulsion for leaving the accommodation they tricked them into paying for- even if they’re going home.

1. When I was in 6th form, I invited Richard Dawkins to come speak at my school as part of a series I was organising. We had a cheese & wine thing afterwards during which he said to me that the really weird thing about us evangelicals was that we were absurdly effeminate.

1. We’ve all known that Ravi was unfit for ministry for years. Those who said so or who expressed an unwillingness to work alongside RZIM were called troublemakers or worse. RZIM did NOT only find out in 2020, as they are working hard to make people believe.

Unhappy Christians can be, and often are, a marvellous recommendation of the Christian faith. The Christian brothers & sisters whom God most used to preserve my faith through many years of depression were ones I trusted to take sadness seriously.
