One of the problems of academics (amongst many) when theorizing the global south politics is their patriarchal portrayal of southern geographies through path-dependent descriptors & categories. They feel it’s enough to spend 2 or 3 years of residency in the south to write a book.

I wish this stage ends soon. To be in a phase of a sort of living but longing to die. To have a voice with a sort of good ideas but not given a chance. To have to face all sorts of difficulties, locally &internationally. To be stuck at the in-betweenness of things w/out belonging

Before I return to my writing cave, here are 3 points of analysis (maybe right or/wrong):
1. On the right to homeland: Why Americans concur with Israel so strongly? This has to do w historical underpinnings. The US is a land of immigrants & white-supremacy runs deep down..
Then one day you feel like giving up everything, it doesn’t matter anymore; what you try to convince yourself with, keep holding on to, it doesn’t matter. You just want to find the exit door. “All that is solid melts into Air;” it is a mafia of sorts & you can’t top the game.

It’s time to decenter the narrative of the “free world” in the west and re-position it to where it belongs.
*President of South Africa stands with Palestine. Plain and simple, without the interest-based rhetorics of high-moral outlandish grounds.
No word in the English language can describe this, only a word in Arabic of ‘three letters’ can explain it: قهر
—And when we’re seen ‘less than human’, less worthy of living, how many lives should we spare per lifetime? How many tears should we shed? How many times shall we die?

True to the bones. “Revolutionizing the field” from the North. I’ve been holding my breath for a recent work published on “informality” literally claiming in the abstract—the first major work on informality, & it was based on secondary resources w few visits to Cairo!! No comment
As an editor in two international journals, I have learnt four things:
1) that scholars from academically strong countries tend to write as if they were always revolutionizing the field; scholars from peripheral countries, as if they had to ask permission to speak.
This is the meaning of Faust’s relationship with the devil: human powers can be developed only through what Marx called “powers of the underworld,” dark & fearful energies that may erupt with a horrible force beyond all human control. It’s Goethe’s Faust: tragedy of development.

Decolonization is a praxis, it is a life-threatening practice of becoming. And no body chooses to be in it, it’s a destiny enforced on people, an embodiment requiring liberation from it, and where academics’ points of origin in the global north dictate many of its politics.
Isn’t this the hype of the “Politics of the ‘Maybe’”? —When the forces of the underground revolt; nature, sandstorm, and human-machine inefficacy all align. More theorization of the ‘politics of the maybe’ and the conundrum of vectors coming soon. (Irony at its best).

If Karl Marx was alive, he would have written a book on “Academia” as “Capitalism” using the same concepts of “accumulation by dispossession,”“reproduction of power,” “exploitation,” & have called for redistributive Justice/dignity across the working class/unprivileged academics.
