@fighteer1 @lexfridman A brief history of medical consensus: -smoking is harmless -lobotomies are helpful -low-fat diets are good for weight loss -opioids for everyone! Experts don't have be lying or have an agenda. They can just be wrong. And they often are. Consensus is a sand castle at low tide.

I think embracing the identity of "victim" often leads to feeling justified in victimizing others, with cruelty, punishment, aggression... Something to guard against in oneself, I think, and one reason among many to resist thinking of yourself in terms of victimhood.

@Leftylockdowns1 For many, it's genuine fear. They've internalized a belief that people visually obstructing their faces, even with baggy cloth masks, translates to reduced risk of transmission. Removing that visible symbol is terrifying. Such a harmful disservice by leaders who oversold masks.

I wrote a whole essay a while back about how the truth is in the energy. The truth of a person, a movement, a group. It doesn't matter what they say--pay attention to their energy. That shit doesn't lie. The energy on that street today was not fomenting peace.

One hidden crux of disagreements in COVID: Acceptance. Acceptance does not mean approval - I don't want a pandemic, but I accepted COVID would be pandemic in January 2020. My every policy choice afterwards was to reduce harm conditioned on a solemn acceptance of reality.
