All University business meetings here are required to be on Zoom "because of COVID" until end Spring 2023. We often now all sit in the same room and Zoom because we are all on campus. This is the academic equivalent of playing flute through a mask with a hole in it.

My family already tried an intervention. It didn't work. She is not open to mental health help: she thinks everyone else is crazy and endangering themselves. She won't even walk into her front porch. She believes COVID is miasma in the air I hate those who did this to her.

Two COVID exposures today for 2-8 hours here, within a few feet. I am now recommended to test. Then I have to report the test. Then I have to take off work for 5 days, paid, if + And then I have to mask for 5+ days after. So, I won't be testing. That's the only optional bit.

Yesterday, after the storm, I helped clean the beach here with others. About 50% of the garbage that floated up onto shore was all surgical masks from the Gulf of Thailand. When you see it for yourself, fish strangled in masks too, the environmental impact hits you in the gut.

During that time, he worked full-time at a restaurant and grocery store and finally gave up college after saving money. He dropped out because the remote format was terrible. This is ridiculous. Kids aren't in wheelchairs across the US, or anywhere else, due to LongCOVID, and anyone with bleeding eyes either has Ebola or has been online for 3 years of remote school, yet almost 6k people agree that this is "every family" they know. Pure mendacity.

Today, my quiet, generally apolitical university campus erupted in pro-Hamas protests for nearly four hours. My colleague walked in looking pale and told me let's go to the (interior) conference room; she didn't want me to see anything painful. 100+ cops around when I left.

@mkibbe @kathygriffin @daniela127 Same here. I had stage 4 cancer and chemo and still have a much reduced immune system. But I cannot humanly imagine why kids should mask. If I were worried, and I am not, I would avoid places and people I was scared of, or stay home. Using healthy kids to shield myself? Never!

I was forced to mask today in a blood lab that was basically empty, with a useless, gaping surgical mask, by three separate Kaiser employees in California State. I tried to decline but was threatened to be ejected from premises (once angrily), as a vaxxed middle-aged woman.

Today, I learned that my University has had an all-time record number of psychiatric emergencies this term involving student hospitalizations, not including those related to drugs and alcohol. No reason was provided. Most were for attempted suicide, however.

Cheap shot? Not when I didn't kick him to student conduct on the spot for disrupting my class. His class began chuckling and 10 minutes later, he went to the restroom, never to return. Most of the students are 1st gen Latino. They weren't interested in his shit either. FIN.

Denmark does not permit healthy people under 50 to receive Covid vaccines, even if they never vaccinated. The UK will soon follow. It feels like an explanation better than "we have enough immunity" is in order.

This is what they did to my county after our fire evacuations; they then shamed us that we caused COVID to spread, followed by increasing restrictions. It felt abusive. Scaring Maui, after the trauma of their fires and new economic precarity, with all caps, is absolutely wrong.

My cousin is in psychiatric care and was a survivor of the party. She is 23. She hid under friends' bodies for seven hours. She was presumed dead for weeks, until we learned she just had PTSD and was still hiding. Laugh some more about "propaganda" from your safe little perch.
