I’m pleased to introduce legislation today which would extend postpartum coverage for eligible women from 2 to 12 months.
Healthy moms = healthy babies. If we care about babies, we must show that we care for and value their moms who are the primary caregivers.
Congrats to MSU baseball on being recognized on House floor for 2021 CWS championship. Nice to see them getting some consolation after their resounding loss to

There will always be times when legislators must make tough votes. There will be times when legislators must weigh the good and the bad of a potential action, take stock of the sentiment of constituents and search their soul and agonize on whether to vote "yes" or "no."

Sad day in our nation. The greatest country in the world. A nation with laws. A nation that has a procedure and a history for a peaceful transition of power. No man, no political party is greater than this country.
The
@MSHouseOfRep
just passed HCR 79 by vote of 85-34 to suspend the rules to allow for the introduction of bill to decommission current state flag. Amazing day in the history of our State.
I’m heartbroken for Alabama families in IVF treatments & fear what this means going forward. As a woman who struggled with infertility for years, I know there is nothing more pro-life than trying to conceive a child. We’ve sadly turned this issue inside out & upside down.
MS Dept of Health
@msdh
released its MS Maternal Mortality Report last week, as required by law, for the period of 2017-19. It showed an over 8% increase in pregnancy-related mortality over the previous 3 yr period.
What a great homecoming for our Sunbelt Regular Season Champions,
@southernmissmbb
and for my friend and former

classmate,
@CoachLadner
! So proud of our Golden Eagles! Picked last, finished 1st!! Keep it going, Eagles!
Thank you
@marshallramsey
for this, for sharing your talent with Mississippi & for putting a unique focus on critical issues. When words fail us or simply aren’t enough, you manage to say what we all seem to feel in the moment.
Due to a total brain fart, I gave Rep. McGee a new last name (Magee). I have fixed it and apologized to her. My 40th birthday cake had my name misspelled. I get the angst it can cause.
@MSTODAYnews
After yesterday’s qualifying deadline, I’m excited to be serving my city for another four years.
My hopes for Hattiesburg and Mississippi are high. I believe in the potential of our people, but I also believe that pushing us to the next level requires leadership.
Every
@SouthernMiss
alum has stories where The Hub served as the backdrop. Southern Miss alum,
@jimmybuffett
had a story there too.
“Drink it up, this one's for you. It's been a lovely cruise.
I'm sorry it's ending,
Oh it's sad, but it's true. Honey, it's been a lovely cruise”
Had to stop in on his very first day back in The Dome, but this time as Interim President. Not a single person better suited for this job at this very moment than Dr. Joe Paul to lead our beloved
@SouthernMiss
. To The Top, JP!
I make this vote for my city and university, whose leaders and citizens have led on this important issue. But most importantly, I make this vote for our state's future and for all future generations who will live under its flag.

Very pleased that the Saenger Theater
@Hattiesburg_MS
was awarded a $250K Heritage Preservation Grant by
@MDAH_Official
. So important to preserve these historic landmarks for the future generation.
Pres George H. W. Bush penned a note to Bill Clinton, who defeated him, saying “you are now OUR President. Your success is now our country’s success.” Hoping we recognize what Pres Bush knew. A new president deserves our support for the collective future of this nation we love.
It's Homecoming week at Southern Miss. We'll see you at the parade at 10:00 am, followed by tailgating and a 6:00 pm kickoff at the Rock!

Our newest Hattiesburg residents, Sue Ellen and her daughter Alberta, finally make their long-awaited debut at the

Currently, at our local hospitals about 92% of COVID patients are unvaccinated.
Do you know what that means? People who got the vaccine are rarely getting the virus and if they do, they are not getting deathly ill.
The Forrest County Health Department is giving vaccines today & tomorrow. PLENTY of appointments available. Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments are highly recommended. If you haven’t gotten the vaccine yet, it’s ok to change your mind. Now is the time.
Throwing it back this Sunday to the era of

For me, the vote on changing the flag has not been one of those tough votes.
Since announcing my intention to run for state representative in 2017, I have frequently stated my public support for changing Mississippi's flag.
(2/10)
I also hope history remembers each member of the Legislative Black Caucus. For well over a half-century our African American colleagues have faithfully come into the House Chamber to represent their communities while under the shadow of a symbol that didn't represent them.

COVID cases are on the rise again w/ Delta variant now being dominant. MS ranks last in vaccinations. If you haven’t gotten your vaccine, here are the locations for Forrest Cty. Plenty appts available. Let’s not go back to 2020.
It is a rare moment in time when the citizens of a state have the opportunity to collectively make a decision which has both an instant impact on its course and provides a positive path forward for future generations.
Representative Alyce Clarke speaking for the last time on the MS House floor. Saying “you don’t know what you can do until you try.” Amen, Alyce. It’s been a privilege to serve with you. Thank you for paving the way for all the women behind you.

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution suspending the rules which allows them to make a vote on whether to remove the state flag. A loud cheer erupted once decision was made

Proud to attend and support our colleague Representative

It would’ve been fun to go back to Omaha. But

Yesterday, one of these colleagues came up to me outside the chamber and said four momentous words: "we have the votes." It was an overwhelming moment, and I felt the emotion and the quiet joy with which he said them.

In celebration of

Thanks to

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."
Added as 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution & ratified 100 years ago today, on Aug 18, 1920, granted women the right to vote.
The truth is this: for many Mississippi workers, insurance coverage does not come automatically with employment. These are hard-working people who simply want to provide for themselves and their families.
I was pleased to introduce Lt. Gov.
@DelbertHosemann
before a packed house recently in Hattiesburg. It’s been a long summer of campaigning, but it’s now time to “get the vote out” as tomorrow is finally the primary election. Vote tomorrow!
Very sad and preventable with early prenatal care. I have introduced legislation, HB 1362, that provides presumptive eligibility for pregnant women on Medicaid so they can see a doctor in early weeks of pregnancy.
Unbelievable that babies dying from syphilis in 2023!
We need doctors, patients, insurance (Medicaid) and public health to work together. This is a simple problem to eradicate - if we so chose. Early testing/treatment/prenatal care.

The

released new guidance yday urging those 65 & older or those immunocompromised to avoid indoor gatherings regardless of vaccination status. Delta variant cases have doubled in just over a week. Moving in wrong direction. Low vaccination rates in MS put everyone at risk.
I am incredibly grateful to represent an educated and thoughtful community that supports me on the tough votes. I make this vote because I believe it is past time for Mississippi to take this important step forward.
