One of the most painful parts of leaving the LDS church has been the public shaming. Truth is, the LDS church wasn’t safe for me, including the LDS music biz. If you knew the level of sexual harassment I’ve endured from the men behind your fave LDS albums, you’d leave me alone.

Humans learn by “modeling” behavior from birth. So when women & their children in religious congregations look to the stand & only see men, they are conditioned to not value women’s voices & views. If men have any decency, they will let women lead equally.

I remember a day on BYU campus when I was going to school w/ an infant. I was only 20. I walked through the WILK, desperate, exhausted, looking for a resource office for women & children at BYU. But I didn’t find one & I just collapsed on the floor & started balling.

Seeing more posts lately from LDS therapists that normalize discomfort w/ concerning issues. Like “It’s OK to feel uncomfortable w/ garments/ the temple.” But the step about “trusting your instincts” is left out, thus encouraging desensitization to major red flags in your life.

1.5 yrs ago, my studio got robbed. Today I was summoned to appear in court & testify at a hearing for the robber. No one showed up. Not even the judge. I asked the clerk what was up. “Sometimes these hearings happen. Sometimes they don’t.” Is this how the justice system works?!

I’m not what my parents wanted me to be. I’ll never be a Mormon again. My politics lean left. It’s taken a toll on our relationship. But in spite of the vast differences my relationship w/ my mom has been much improved & even v sweet lately. Got this text from her 2night.

My husband, Ryan, bedazzled his face in crystal teardrops for me at my last show of the year on Friday. Here’s us after the show in our kitchen. He’s the real deal. 😻
