| 26 | Documenting my journey to financial freedom with transparent portfolio updates and a few memes along the way. Current portfolio value: $99,656 💸
My boss sold his company for $40M and still drives a 2012 Honda Accord.
I asked him why, and he said he enjoys showing up to meetings where people flaunt their fancy cars, knowing he has more money while driving a humble ride.
Now that’s a power move.
I changed my own oil for the first ever time recently.
Cost breakdown:
-Oil: $35
-Oil filter: $10
Total: $45
Took about two hours.
My local oil change place charges $80 and finishes in 15 minutes.
Is DIY oil changing worth it? 🤔
Call me crazy, but I prefer working a 9-5 over the stress of running a business.
My low stress office job allows me to invest a significant portion of my income while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Whats up with the obsession of being a business owner?
I'm starting to realize that homeownership in my 20s/30s is something society pushes, but I don’t really need.
Why not just rent, invest the savings, and focus on owning when I’ve built more wealth?
This is my plan to retire a multimillionaire by the age 55.
Invest $2,000 a month into low cost index funds.
Then live off the dividends and enjoy life 😎
My brake pads started squealing yesterday.
The dealership quoted me $600 for new pads + replacement.
AutoZone had the brake pads for $70.
I bought the pads, watched a YouTube video, and changed them myself.
I saved hundreds of dollars and learned something new 💪😎
My 34-year-old sister, married with three kids, has a $1.4M investment portfolio and is completely debt-free.
She only buys used toys for her kids, and family trips are rare because she wants to retire by 45.
Is she being selfish or is this the path to financial freedom?
Has anyone ever regretted the amount of money they spent on their wedding?
I will be getting married soonish and the idea of spending $20k+ hurts to think about.
Unpopular opinion: Remote work is overrated.
In-person interaction and collaboration is very important.
A hybrid schedule is the way to go.
Agree or disagree?
My friend recently graduated from college and landed a job with an annual salary of about $50,000.
One of his first major decisions was to finance a 2020 Ford Mustang GT on a 72-month loan with a 12% interest rate.
As a friend, should I express concern or stay out of it?
Am I saving too much for retirement at 25?
- No debt
- No house
- 6-month emergency fund in a HYSA
- $45k in retirement accounts, $50k in a brokerage
- Every extra dollar I have goes to long-term investments
Is this overkill, or am I setting myself up for a strong future?
I’m 25 years old with a $90k investment portfolio.
Some people assume I have a high-paying job to achieve this, but I don’t.
I’ve invested >50% of my salary for the past two years.
I’m determined to achieve financial freedom and willing to make sacrifices now to get there.
I'm 25 years old and have a net worth of $100k.
However:
- I rarely travel
- I'm not married
- I live a frugal lifestyle
- I have a repetitive job
- My social life is limited
I've realized that I need to work on balancing success with living life, or I might regret my choices.
If I never added another dollar to my $76,000 investment portfolio, it would grow to over $1,200,000 by the time I'm 60.
This is the power of compound interest.
Here is my simple plan as a 25 year old to become a millionaire by 40.
The idea that index funds are for preserving wealth and not for accumulating wealth is laughable.
For the past year, I’ve been focused on hitting a $100k investment portfolio.
Now that I’m close, I’m worried I won’t feel as fulfilled as I thought.
Have you ever chased a financial goal, only to feel underwhelmed once you reached it?
I majored in accounting in college because, honestly, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I just picked something.
I finished my degree, got my diploma, and landed a steady job.
Am I passionate about accounting? Not at all.
But I am passionate about achieving financial
If I have $50k in a brokerage account, do I really need a separate cash emergency fund?
Wouldn't it make sense to just tap into my investments if an emergency comes up?
I started investing in Dec 2021, spent nearly 2 years in the red. Stayed committed, kept investing, and now, over 3 years later, my patience is rewarded—portfolio's finally in the green!
I have maxed out my Roth IRA 3 times so far:
2022 ✅
2023 ✅
2024 ✅
If I continue to max it out every year I should have over $3M in tax free money at retirement 🤯
Don’t underestimate the power of compounding.
My side hustle is reselling clothing on ebay.
Currently my 90 day sales total is about 18k.
This allows me to invest thousands of dollars each month into the stock market
Do you have a side hustle?
I wonder how long it will take for people to open their eyes to investing internationally.
By the time they see the US lagging behind international equities they will have already missed out on large gains.
US equity dominance will not last forever ⏰
One of the best perks of working at my current company is the option to skip the one-hour lunch break and leave an hour earlier.
I’d much rather get home sooner than spend an hour on lunch.
More companies should allow this in my opinion.
Paying the minimum balance on a credit card is unacceptable. 🚩
It should be paid off in full each month.
If you cant, you aren’t a credit card person and shouldn’t have one.
Agree?
My goal is to build a $500k stock portfolio by the time I turn 30.
That gives me just over 4 years to grow my portfolio from $90,000 to $500,000
The entire process will be documented right here on X 💪
Starting in September, my girlfriend and I will be contributing weekly to a house fund.
Our goal is to buy a home in two years.
Any advice on where to park these funds?
A lot of people at my company are quitting because they’re being forced back into the office.
Are they justified, or have people become too accustomed to remote work?
Want a side hustle that actually works?
You need to give reselling clothing on eBay a shot. 👕💰
I started reselling clothing on eBay part time one year ago and it currently provides me with $2-3K a month in additional income.
Here’s a thread on exactly how to do it: 🧵👇
My old boss once told me that “every dollar invested cuts a minute off of your working life”.
Meaning retirement comes one minute sooner for every dollar invested.
That is why I invest so much of my money.
I’m in my 20s and here's what I'm focusing on to get a 500k net worth before 30:
• Job hopping every 2-3 years
• Maxing out 401k
• Maxing out Roth IRA
• Adding weekly to a brokerage account
Would you add anything else?
Currently 90% of my portfolio is index funds.
The other 10% is one single stock, Amazon $AMZN
I have been considering splitting the 10% into 5 individual stocks:
1) Amazon $AMZN
2) Google $GOGGL
3) MasterCard $MA
4) ???
5) ???
What stocks should I consider for
#4
and
#5
?
It is unfortunate that index investing isn't as popular here because it isn't as “fun” as picking individual stocks.
Many new investors are being influenced to buy individual stocks on this platform.
Sadly, they may learn the hard way and miss out on prime years of growth.
I’ve been selling thrifted clothing on eBay for about a year for extra income.
Some people claim that I am stealing from those who are less fortunate and could have bought those items.
Personally I think this is ridiculous, what do you think?
This is the vast majority of my investment portfolio:
$VTI 80%
$VXUS 20%
It may not be popular on x but this is how you build guaranteed wealth over the long term.
@SaiyanFinance
Trust me, I would be buying nice cars in his position.
He doesnt think hes smarter he just likes to roll up in a cheap car when they all know he has hella money
Today’s contributions of $500 will finally start my position in $FBTC
Next week I will add another $300 to make bitcoin a 1% allocation in my portfolio.
Bitcoin bros we cool now?
My girlfriend is almost done paying off her student loans and plans to start investing ASAP.
Our plan is for her to put 15-20% of her income into the S&P500 every week.
Would you add/change anything or keep it simple?
In one year, my portfolio grew from $17k to $94k, driven mostly by a focus on steady contributions.
In 2023, I made investing a priority, and the results speak for themselves.
I could slow down and still retire comfortably, but there's more I want to accomplish. 💪
In less than a year, my Fidelity account has gone from $16,500 to $46,000+
8 months ago, I decided to prioritize my long term goals over short-term gratification, and it's paying off big time.
I encourage everyone to give it a shot, big or small, just start!
I’ve been dating my girlfriend for 7 years, since sophomore year of high school.
Some people say that’s a red flag and I should get married already.
Am I really doing something wrong, or why is there so much pressure to rush into marriage?
I currently contribute 15% of my gross pay to my 401k.
My employer matches 25%-75% on the first $10,000 of contributions based on company performance. (Usually full 75% match)
My question is…
Should I do Pretax contributions or Roth contributions?
My first job as a grocery bagger at 16 taught me more about the real world than any corporate role ever could.
I learned how to connect with people, face challenges, and work hard.
Every parent should have their kids work a job like this, no matter their wealth.
I plan on proposing to my gf soon and I just realized, how am I supposed to figure out her ring size without making it obvious I plan on proposing soon?
I invest 50% of my income into the stock market.
I track my spending and budget.
I don’t purchase unnecessary things.
One day this will all pay off and I will thank myself.
How to become a multimillionaire:
-Invest in the stock market
-Invest in the stock market
-Invest in the stock market
-Invest in the stock market
-Invest in the stock market
Did I miss anything?
