The amount of support staff that has left this industry over the last two years due to burnout is staggering. Coaches advocating to double the length of a sport's season should only be doing so if they're also advocating for more SIDs, ATs, etc. Otherwise the plan doesn't work.

One of my most strongly held beliefs in college athletics: critical coverage is not a reason to revoke a credential. We have our jobs to do and our local media has theirs. It won’t always be 100% in agreement, but the job of “promoting” our teams is ours, not the local media.

The NCAA lacrosse selection shows air simultaneously at 9 p.m. Sunday - the men on ESPNU and the women as an online stream. From 7:30-8:30, ESPNU is airing a rerun of a 2014 documentary on the history of Auburn athletics in the 80s. It seems like there's a better solution... 🤔

In 2023, this is how stats are kept for NCAA lacrosse, baseball, softball, & field hockey: software from the 90s that runs on obsolete PCs with dead batteries. We need more solutions and more resources given to those solutions so we can better serve our teams and universities.

Tournament marketing budget: M: $53K (17 teams) W: $17K (29 teams) This is a structural + systemic issue. The assumption there's more value in promoting the men's tournament becomes self-fulfilling. We need more people in leadership positions saying "let's get this right."

We need multiple solutions for mid-majors to incentivize better non-conf games. More conf challenges, bring back tip-off marathon/BracketBusters, etc. We have a team that couldn't get a D1 home game simply because they've won 51 games in two years + have a great fan base.

Every uniform design should be approved by: - the sport administrator - the SID - the equipment staff to ensure brand standards and the basic concept of “can you read the numbers?” are followed.

20-21: Lay off/furlough staff, those left work 80-90 hour weeks 21-22: More people leave 22-23: Remaining are burned out, can't fill vacancies We need to take a hard look at structure (and salary.) Status quo with more demand and less staffing is causing the issue to snowball.

Congrats to @kyohlmiller on a hell of a career. I've never seen an athlete put more effort into growing her sport on and off the field. Some athletes have trophies sitting in their living rooms; some have kids dressed as them for Halloween. The latter's a hell of a lot cooler.

Read a game preview in which a P5 school emphasized it couldn't broadcast because there were too many home events going on at once. Sport admins/coaches: work together so your teams can be promoted and your staff can do their jobs. Everyone can't play at the same time.

🍳 The goal for 24-25: make in-season Sunday mornings look like offseason Sunday mornings. Jobs in college sports have significant night/weekend time demand. But prioritizing the people and balance that make us more complete people is essential if we strive to help others grow.

An idea I've had since my @StonyBrookWLAX days: a Thursday lacrosse block on @ESPNU . No midweek softball/baseball to compete with. Play two WLAX and two MLAX games at 2, 4, 6 and 8 PM. Conference offices: Get ahead of the game and leverage your TV deals for a growing sport.

I got to meet @JonGordon11 at the @Tewaaraton ceremony a few years back and this will be my sixth book of his I've read since. His work often proves to be a beneficial tool in "resetting" a bit over the summer in college athletics and focusing on what's important.

👏 to @QU_MIH on a heck of a season. To be at a point where a regional final exit in OT against the No. 1 seed is disappointing says so much about what’s been built up on the hill. Thanks for the opportunity for this alum to be all-in on college hockey from down in RVA.

A year ago today, I sat in a restaurant in the town where I grew up and had the privilege of accepting an incredible opportunity in person. As I approach one year with @CAASports , a big thanks to the athletes, coaches, administrators, media, and fans who make this job so great.
