Warm, charismatic, loyal, and clever, we will remember him. Thoughts with Suzie Jolly.
Excited/proud/nervous as I take over as Clinical Lead for the Oxford Trauma Service.
Helping a talented, dedicated and hard working group deliver exceptional care for injured patients Oxford and the Thames Valley Region.
My Great Uncle jumped into Arnhem with 10 Para 75 years ago today.
I don’t know how many of his brother officers whose signatures are on this cigarette case died. But the battalion was disbanded after Op Market Garden because it’s losses were so huge.
I see the ‘22 vets a day’ stuff is going round again.
No basis for 22 figure.
Service people have lower rates of mental illness than age/sex matched civilian population.
We need a culture where those struggling can talk about it, but not perpetuating the damaged vet cliche.

I love Oxford.

Gorka’s 3 year’s in a TA (reserve) unit with zero active service is laughable-literally equivalent to bragging about ROTC ‘service’. That beret alone would have had him bullied shitless in a proper unit.
Interesting that he had moobs even as a young man.

Love Oxford Trauma.
Did a THR for a woman with a fractured hip at noon, by the time of my post-op ward round this evening she presented me with a jar of home made marmalade!
Seville orange Marmalade. Chunky shred-She’s not messing about.
Lest we forget. This was bloody, close-quarter battle.
Maybe not an existential fight for Britain, but it was certainly existential for those who fought to liberate the Falklands from the occupation of a brutal, fascist military dictatorship.
Later, in a quiet part of the forest the Troop gather to receive their green berets. It’s a huge privilege to welcome new Commandos to the club. Standing there, sweat soaked, with numb feet & shaking legs, they suddenly grasp that they’ve achieved their goal, they are Commandos.
THREAD. 1/12. Some in Military object to a move to diversity, but a force of people who look, talk and think the same is weak.
Lets talk about someone who wasn’t typical, and uniquely was involved in the formation of 3 SF units: Commandos, SAS and US Rangers: Brig Dudley Clarke.

Disappointing. A Candidate has failed Assessment Centre for making comments well below the Army’s Diversity & Inclusion standards. Sad people think like that. Astonishing they didn’t think we’d pick them up on it. They can try again in a year.

Nerve agents like VX and Sarin block acetylcholinesterases. Totally different class and amongst the most lethal substances known to science.

JM’s premise seemed to be that believing british service people possible of unlawful killing was delusional.
If we are not capable of such acts, we will be utterly unique in military history.
The KGB spy and British traitor George Blake has died.
Glad he lived long enough to see the exposure and collapse of Stalin’s system that he thought was so wonderful he betrayed up to 40 agents to it.
