Washington Times Pentagon reporter. Ex-Army officer & Desert Storm vet. Old account

got nuked. This is the only place to find me these days. Follow me!
Now everybody in the defense media world is a frigging expert on cluster munitions.
Dude. As a cav troop fire support officer, I called in a buttload of DPICM missions during the Gulf War.
They are the shit.
@Mike_Hixenbaugh
NBC hired Jen Psaki while she was working as President Biden's spokesperson at the White House. There wasn't this kind of pearl clutching from Chuck Todd back then.
@redsteeze
He flies on Air Force One, which is like flying in a very nice apartment complete with a personal staff. It’s not like he had the center seat on a Southwest flight to Akron. It’s hardly rough travel.
I'm getting a fair amount of pushback from people - including some in the media - who were 'shocked and outraged' that I asked Gen. Ryder at his Pentagon press conference how an E-3 in the Air Nat'l Guard managed to get his hands on Joint Staff briefing documents. (more)

I spent 20 years as a reporter at the HouChron and this is disgraceful behavior and a complete lack of professionalism. You’re not the first Chron staffer to be criticized by the public. I had death threats made against me. I’m appalled at the

Too bad he didn't bother asking Arlington National Cemetery-who confirmed to me it was a private wreath-laying ceremony (they do about 12 every day there) and a Gold Star family invited President Trump. (Of course, that's just basic journalism so I understand why some ignore it)
@RubensteinAdam
Great piece in The Atlantic. As a reporter myself, I'm glad you 'named names' of some of the current NYT staffers who completely crossed over into advocacy from journalism with their internal attacks over the Cotton op/ed
So, even with my clearance (and as an active duty officer) I never got my hands on briefing documents for the most senior Pentagon officials. So, I ask the question again: how does a junior Air Guardsman get his hands on that G2? Still waiting. (END)

I think your definition of "lashing out" is a bit overly generous. As a reporter I've been threatened with arrest for getting too close to a crime scene. Now, THAT'S "lashing out" - not this modest rebuke.
@sav_says_
I spent 20 years covering the police in Texas - before coming up here to DC. Cops will act like that around reporters if they think they can get away with it. CPB are not in charge of air space.
@AmySwearer
@JJCarafano
I wrote a "good guy with a gun takes out a bad guy" story every few months or so when I was covering the cops at the Houston Chronicle. It happens more often than some people think. (At least in Texas)
@jodikantor
The American flag also was prominently displayed during the Jan. 6 riots. Does that mean anyone who now flies that flag at their home is an insurrectionist?

Lt. Col. James E. Rudder commanded the 2nd Ranger Battalion - Rudder's Rangers - that scaled the 100-foot cliffs at Pointe du Hoc on Normandy to seize German artillery that could have been fired at the US troops landing on Omaha and Utah beaches. He later was president of Texas

Brown skinned? More like olive-colored skin, probably.
Middle-Eastern? Those geo-political distinctions didn't exist back then.
Undocumented immigrant? Joseph & Mary travelled to Bethlehem because of Roman tax laws. I'm sure He was on someone's list.
Other than that, great sign.
Sad news today about the passing of Col. Roger Donlon, the first person awarded a Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War and the first Green Beret to be so honored. RIP.
@NoahCRothman
I asked Gen Pat Ryder at the Pentagon today how SecDef can be “outraged” over what happened in Gaza after US drone strikes on 10 civilians in Afghanistan in Aug 2021 that resulted in zero firings. He wouldn’t touch the question. (Not surprised tho)
Pentagon spokesman explaining why they sent a destroyer to Sudan: "I would look at it less as a destroyer and more as a ship - a capability that comes with it, a variety of capabilities that includes transport."
That's some prime gov't gibberish right there! Attn

I don’t believe in government conspiracies because I’ve worked in government and, believe me, those guys can’t organize a sock drawer much less an all powerful elite.

Even at the time, I always figured Diana used the media as much as they used her. It was a symbiotic relationship. I never faulted her for it - it simply was the way things were done in her rarefied world.

is getting heat for a tweet thread where she talked about the horror of having dinner with people whose opinions were different from hers. But I'll never forget the time she paddled by in ankle deep water while covering a flood.

Maybe if he had asked Arlington National Cemetery - as I did yesterday - they would have told him it was a private wreath-laying ceremony (they do about 12 every day) & President Trump was invited by a Gold Star family to be there. (Of course, that's just basic journalism....)
Earlier in my career as an enlisted GI in Germany, I was part of my 8-inch howitzer battery's Special Weapons team. We would have constructed & fired a nuclear artillery round if called to do so. So, yes, I have some idea how the security clearance sausage is made. (more)
"Don't you know young people do a lot of important things in the military!" was a common response I got. As an Army officer, I had a TS-SCI clearance (Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information) because I was part of a group in my squadron that decoded flash traffic. (more)

My latest in The Washington Times. Give it a read. Thanks!

"My" country didn't lose. The petulant, arrogant members of a soccer team that acted as if they loathed the place they were supported to represent lost.
But my country didn't lose.
@DuplessisBrad
I had to listen to that song multiple times a day during the Gulf War because our Cav Squadron commander thought so highly of it. It almost made me defect to Saddam Hussein’s side to get away from it
@KurtSchlichter
Did you swear an oath every day? I mean, I did when I enlisted and then when I got commissioned but 'every day?' I mean, that would have cut out time I was in the motor pool.
So after 20 years, more than 20,000 killed and wounded US military personnel and more than $2 trillion spent, the Taliban controls Afghanistan and they're back to stoning women.
Good job all around, folks
Taliban Leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada announces a return to the policy of stoning women:
"We will soon implement the punishment for adultery. We will flog women in public. We will stone them to death in public. We will bring Sharia to this land.”
@EvaVlaar
The original Snow White was kind, compassionate and helped the 7 Dwarves become better people. Disney now wants her to be some strident "girl boss" who doesn't need a man. So boring. So pedestrian. (Hard pass)
@KurtSchlichter
If I even drive past a police station, I call my lawyer first. After 20 years covering law enforcement in Houston, this much is certain: don't talk without legal representation.
Calling operators with the Combat Applications Group (ie Delta Force) 'first responders' like they are Red Cross volunteers or something.
(I'm not even going to go into how the White House just burned these guys by publishing their photographs WHILE THEY'RE ON AN MISSION)
The Whitehouse media team shared this picture last night (I added the black boxes) without blurring or censoring the faces of the “Delta Force” (CAG) operator’s faces. They deleted it an hour later after hundreds of thousands had already viewed it.
This is a massive failure on
My heart has been successfully jumpstarted. You guys aren’t getting rid of me that easily! I’ll be back at the Pentagon on Monday to ask questions the brass doesn’t want to answer.

Whatever you might think about the man's actions, it was clearly protected political speech. He physically harmed no one. The police officer's actions were completely unconstitutional.

If burning a US flag is protected political speech, why wouldn't something like this be as well? I think any case that goes to trial will be tossed as an unconstitutional abridgment of freedom of speech.

Robert DeNiro sounds intelligent in movies because he has screenwriters who provide him with clever dialogue. (Similar to his reputation as a movie tough guy because he has stuntmen)

Church leaders have made a number of errors over the years. Popes have spoken ex cathedra only twice: regarding the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary. Everything else is up for debate.
Dpty Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks was on vacay in Puerto Rico when she got an email saying she was temporarily in charge. 2 days later, she learned it was because DefSec Lloyd Austin was in the ICU at Walter Reed Hospital. 2 more days later, the White House was told.

I've worked with Ivy League grads & used to be a bit intimidated because I went to a two-bit Texas cow college. But, the president of my school had first been a civil engineer for 30 years. We also didn't honor terror groups at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The Pentagon’s decision to hide from the press (and by extension the American public) that President Biden’s military advisor - Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin - has been hospitalized for a week will have ramifications in the press room. Can it be trusted with anything anymore?
So how long until

I also really liked Hillbilly Elegy. His Mamaw reminded me of my Grandma from north Mississippi. She was a tough, hardscrabble old woman who never had an easy day in her life. I remember going up to the state pen in Parchman, Miss. to visit kin doing a "stretch'. So I 'get' it
I’d like to know what kind of “elective” surgery a 70 year old man goes under the knife for. The fact that it was elective rules out the usual kind of emergency procedures
