After 13 years at
@ESPNRadio
I was part of the layoffs today Thank you to all the co-workers who made the job a blast & odd hours seem normal. Thanks to all the hosts that entertained me while making me a better producer. Will cherish my time there forever. On to bigger & better.
When you work at ESPN Radio, you climb up the ranks, usually starting with the worst shifts and working your way up to prime spots. At one point in my career I thought I was done with "the climb" and was just waiting for my spot to open in a prime spot...
At my kids soccer game. A lot of dads are looking at me. Some smiling. Some nodding. Some even grabbing attention of another and pointing. Kept checking to see if i had something hanging out or a hole somewhere. Nope. It was jealousy

One thing you can’t buy is time. But I’d be really weird 6 year old.
Kid: you want to play ninja turtles
Me: maybe later, but what do you think Rodgers is gonna do after this year? Big cap hit for whoever grabs him
Kid: you’re weird
Me: your mom is on pills
A lot can be said about the people I used to work w/ at espn who lost their jobs today. But nobody did more for me when I lost my job than
@jasonfitz
a true great person who happens to be highly entertaining talking about sports. Whoever hires him prepare to get my resume as well
and enjoying every minute with you and Marv and Hood. My mom is up in the Heaven cancer wing Jeff, and she has a drink waiting for you to thank you for the way you helped her son. Thanks Jeff. I'll miss you.
Happy anniversary to my lovely wife and the mother of 2 amazing boys. It’s amazing how you put up with me, the boys, my job search, being an amazing teacher and everything else you deal with every day.
A new venture for me. A return of one of America’s great families. Plus I get to gaze again at

Life update: For the past few weeks I have been challenging myself by doing something I have always wanted to do but never had the chance. I am writing for about my beloved

Damn.The chemistry between
@RB_Mrs
& that trash palette
@RandyScottESPN
is real. Don’t want to see them split up. I produced their extended radio run & the love is real, the fun isn’t forced & the people can’t be better. Nicole-Good luck in new slot. Randy-get better taste buds
@PeterBurnsESPN
Also. You know who it wasn’t a playoff for? Georgia tech. A&M. South Carolina. Auburn. Colorado. Stakes aren’t as high for those teams. It’s a bad analogy. It’s a premise that is too flawed and is easily fixed by going to 6 teams.
In honor of my friend

list of best kids shows, here is a list of the worst (for parents to sit thru):

👆This. This is the man, nay, the person, nay the being. That I rest my family’s future on and my financial stability on. God help me.

@golic
Mike. I love you and your family. Working with you guys has been a real treat…but Jake might be a serial killer based solely on this piece of information
No kid should have to deal with that. I'm sorry when I got laid off I allowed myself to drift away from a friend, a friend who was quick to try and get me a job in Chicago when I was canned. I don't remember who we booked, or what games we followed, but I remember laughing
some who didn't even work there anymore that would rush to donate because of Jeff was awe inspiring. When I made the donation, he called me near tears to thank me. I'm sorry Jeff that it wasn't enough. I'm sorry for the losses your son has experienced already in his life...
2 hours & my bitterness was gone. Jeff was kind of like Ted Lasso in it was impossible not to like him & his goofy positivity. You give him a note, he took it, and thanked you. It's hard not to root for someone like that. Its hard to be mad when dealing w/ that much positivity
I remember talking to him about his wife's illness and he was so open and honest and vulnerable. When she passed, I started a collection for the Jimmy V fund in her name (despite some POS Manager at ESPN telling me I shouldn't) and the amount of people...
My three year old forgot he had to look for me playing hide and seek. I’ve been scrolling Twitter under the covers for the last 20 minutes while he is in the room playing something else. Has no idea I’m here. At what point do I climb out and give up my spot?
“Hi, successful gm in the league? This is the jets calling. Was wondering if you’d be interested in taking over as our GM. Well, we know the draft is over & the previous GM spent all the cap money but don’t worry. You can still take a lot of the blame! Hello...?”
There’s nothing I can say about John Clayton that hasn’t been said 1000x already since the news. Always kind. Always fun. My first show I was lead producer was him &
@ColemanESPN
& they both made it so easy.
I was told I'd be producing 2 guys out of Chicago.
@DickersonESPN
and
@tweetjhood
and I was bitter about it. Didn't know these guys. Didn't want to know them. I wanted my cushy spot M-F/home for dinner. I went in with an attitude. It took Jeff and Hood 2 hours.
I still didn't want to work that shift, but I don't remember ever being in that control room talking to those guys and not smiling or laughing. Me,
@PrinceMarv13
would play the "Maude" theme because it made us laugh. and then there's Jeff coming in deadpan back from break
Jeff would talk to me about what I wanted to do in the business, and would talk about being a part of it. "WE could move into this slot" "WE should try and get this spot" He wanted to go to high places and he wanted to take everyone with him.
I was complacent, thinking everyone saw my work the same way I did. When the next schedule rotation came up I was gut checked in getting moved to Weekend evenings. For those doing the math for what is important for 20 somethings, weekend evenings is not ideal
The NFL has a common sense problem. The Jets can easily avoid one of the pitfalls by just being smart.
Thank you to one of the guys who got me this gig in
@jasonfitz
This is one of the topics we would have a field day with in show prep
Me: would you still love me if i was an alcoholic
Wife: yes
Me: how about if I was addicted to cocaine??
Wife: yes
Me: heroin?
Wife: yes...
Me: and how about Mega Stuff Oreos?
Wife: YOU BETTER HAVE SAVED ME SOME YOU #%&$ !!!
Man. So sorry to hear the news on Pedro Gomez. I remember when we convinced him to be our guy on
@DickersonESPN
@tweetjhood
and he was all
@too
happy to give his time and laugh with us every week.
To my wife’s horror, my 4 year old asked me if we could watch Star Wars for Father’s Day. He’s never watched it before. He’s fascinated. She’s miserable. A true Father’s Day miracle.
