Re: data analytics, cabinet approved exit of 820,165 ineligible ppl from BISP lists on Dec 24, 2019. In Jan 2021 based on further data cleaning, another 29,921 were exited. The paperwork to access data used for cleaning lists was initiated in 2019. I have exact dates on file. 2/4
I asked
@Malala
Yousafzai where she found the courage to speak out for girls' education when she had known the possible repercussions. The answer speaks volumes about her family’s courage and selflessness.
"I always felt incomplete before that"
In my conversation with
@Malala
Yousafza, I asked her what it had been like to go back to Pakistan for the first time after her attack and after everything that had happened.
Thank you, Laura! As editor in chief of that White Paper, I congratulate you on an excellent summary. It was an exhilarating few weeks when we were still learning how to govern. As you say, we were ambitious, idealistic and a little naïve.
25 years ago New Labour were elected into power.
Ten weeks later they brought forward a HUGE White Paper, Excellence in Schools, covering all parts of school reform.
I've read back over it today & it's quite something!
So, what did it say & what can we learn from it? 🧵...

The shortest day over. Six months ahead of increasing light each day…snowdrops a month away, crocuses and daffodils to follow…wonderful…(If you are in the Southern Hemisphere enjoy summer while it lasts!)
You make a good case, Daisy. Finland is a wonderful country no doubt, but I am bored of hearing about its education system, which in its heyday was over-hyped, and is now no longer in its heyday.
Education coverage in the Times is increasingly detached from the evidence.
Constant criticism of everything to do with English schools, and praise for Finland.
Totally contradicts the latest international data & best evidence from cognitive science.
"It's a huge honour and a privilege"
Today we welcome Sir Michael Barber (

After crushing defeat, great credit to Rishi Sunak for this contribution- the peaceful and smooth transition of power is a key ingredient of democracy and not to be taken for granted.
'Life comes at you fast.'
'When the PM's position becomes untenable... you might find yourself called to the highest office.'
Rishi Sunak's words of wisdom to ministers on the government benches has the Commons cracking up.
Great to see the Chief Minister and his team getting the recognition they deserve. They’ve come a long way and outcomes are impressive. They would be the first to say there is much more to do.
Proud moment for

& his team that fought for a dream of an educated

Cricket in Taunton under glowering skies - after rain, a five over shoot-out against Kent in the cold and the damp. A beautiful scene.

never been so grateful to live in a country where we can question & mock & criticise our political leaders without consequence, never ever take this for granted
That is very sad and everything you say about Tim is true, Harry. A wonderful and inspiring person and as you say, towering figure in the world of education . Thoughts with you and family.
This is formal but here goes. The family of Sir Tim Brighouse are very sad to announce that Tim died in the John Radcliffe Hospital today after a short illness. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a towering figure in the word of education. 1/
Great to see this statement and the quote you pull out. Gladstone was a great Chancellor and PM. There isn’t a single sensible person in adulthood who didn’t learn and refine what they believed as time went by.
A wonderful statement from the Gladstone Library. I particularly like the WEG quote: "I was brought up to hate and fear liberty. I came to love it. That is the secret of my whole career". Gladstone travelled a long way in his 60 years as an MP.
For 7 long years in the government, one had to dress formally every day. I got so sick of wearing a tie all the time that I don’t want to even wear it on weddings, and most certainly never in my office ...
There is a sincere effort to do things with integrity, to depoliticise institutions meant to serve people and to be transparent. This is tough journey and I am thankful to experts such as
@MichaelBarber9
for recognising this. 4/4

I agree, this was anti-fascism at its most profound, not without cost in lives and other ways, but ultimately decisive and successful. We owe that generation a huge debt of gratitude.
Thank you, Ben. Hitting the A and E 4-hour target in 2004 was a huge success for NHS and over the next decade it stayed hit. It had become a performance standard. If it were to be abolished, the question should be what better standard would you replace it with.
In a great game, two truly great performances for Somerset today, Ben Green’s astonishing innings and young Sonny Baker’s six wickets. Here’s my shot of Baker in action.
