Our thoughts and prayers are with Matthew Myers, head coach at Holdingford, who lost his pregnant wife in a car accident yesterday. No words come to mind as to how to deal with this but our program is definitely thinking about Matthew and his family.
Our hearts are broken for former players Colton and Drake Meyer as their mom Stacy was killed in a car accident on Friday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Colton, Drake, Mia, and Barry at this difficult time. Their family has impacted so many.
It’s about the journey, not the destination. Very challenging for our team to hear the news. A lot of tears. A lot of emotion.
But this team brought it everyday. So they are champions in our book.
Difficult decisions made by the MSHSL today. While none of us can control the decision, we can all control our response. One thing is clear: the kids will rise up and make the best out of this situation because they are resilient.
Lots of prayers needed for our 8th grade coach Nick Sunderman and his family as their 6 month old daughter is currently in surgery as tumors were discovered in her brain and spine.
Since 2004, Section 6AA has now been in 11 state championship games with 8 state titles (and maybe a 9th tomorrow).
Congrats to
@AlbanyBoysBball
on making the championship game and good luck!!
This team!!!! We win the Consolation Championship by defeating Esko 66-57. We are so proud to represent our amazing community and school. Thank you to everyone for the awesome support!!
The boys gave it everything they had tonight but fell to Annandale 62-60.
It was a heavyweight fight with both teams leaving everything on the floor.
Special group who everyone is very proud of!!
Congratulations to assistant coach Ryan Moscho and his wife Carolyn on the birth of their first child, Carson!
(Here is Carson watching a replay of Uncle Grant score his 1000th point!)
Welcome to the basketball family!
Our December 3rd game vs BOLD has been postponed due to them being ridiculously good at football. A make up date will be announced when it is finalized.
Amazing effort by our guys tonight as we beat a tremendous Eden Valley-Watkins team 48-36!! We move on to the section final on Friday at 6:00 against Mora!!
We just got word that due to an injury, Preston Keaveny has been selected to play in the MBCA All Star game!! He will play tomorrow night at 7:00 at SCSU and also on Saturday at Macalester College. Unfortunately for him, he will be coached by Coach Dusha and Coach Oja!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to former players Traeton and Preston Keaveny and their family with the unexpected death of their mother, Danielle Sagissor, on Sunday. Our basketball community grieves with them during this difficult time.
This Vikings kicker situation makes me think about one of the most difficult things in coaching: when to give a player more chances vs when to give someone else the playing time. More difficult in high school since we care so much about the players.
The Dutchmen clinch the West Central Conference Championship with a 55-28 win at Montevideo! This is our 9th conference championship in the last 10 years. Great accomplishment for our guys!
Nice win over Sauk Centre tonight 72-48! Cool moment after the game as our seniors presented Mark Knoblauch of
@MidMNSports
with a gift to show appreciation for all his work webcasting our games. No one is better!!!
Congrats to senior Preston Keaveny on scoring his 1000th point tonight! A wonderful accomplishment considering he did this in just two years on varsity.
Our thoughts go out to former Dutchmen, and current Concordia Cobber, Grant Moscho. After tearing his ACL last year, Grant unfortunately tore the ACL in his other knee. If anyone can come back from this, Grant can!
Such a memorable season comes to an end tonight. This team overachieved its way to a 26-3 record. But this team will remember for the leadership and unselfishness of the 11 seniors. Couldn’t be prouder!
With our win tonight over ACGC we are Conference Champions for the 7th straight year!! Very proud of our guys! No question that success breeds success.
Why is our final record better than most people had predicted? We have 11 seniors who work hard, respect each other, compete, celebrate successes of others, and genuinely enjoying being with each other. Special group!
Awesome victory tonight as we defeat Albany 64-61!!!! So proud of our effort and all 16 guys staying tied in all night.
We move on to the Section Final at home Friday night at 7:00 PM vs Annandale.
So cool to watch three former Dutchmen battle tonight. Dillon Haider (Morris) and Rowan Nelson (Concordia) both starting. Grant Moscho (Concordia) is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Some quotes from Scottie:
“The most fun you will ever have playing basketball is playing high school ball with your friends.”
“You will never regret being a good teammate but you will always regret being a bad one.”
“A quiet gym is a losing gym.”
Awesome game as we celebrate our 8 seniors on Senior Night by defeating Minnewaska 79-53 tonight!
Our seniors also presented Jason and Sue Rademacher with a painting as their son Brady, who passed away at the age of two, would have been a senior this year.
Awesome message to our team today from 1957 Melrose grad, and former AD, Dave Sieben! Dave talked about the history of Melrose Basketball and the proud tradition our fan base has. Thanks Dave!!!
So impressed with Grant Moscho of WC United/Melrose. The 2021 went head to head with nationally ranked guards and put together a 16pt/8rb performance.
How? Skill and work. Chased down opportunities, attacked players to get to the FT line, hit a pair of treys. Impressive
Our community continues to mourn the loss of Aaron Schmitz, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. Aaron’s son, Derek, is a senior on our team.
Aaron was our food service director but also did a little bit of everything at the school. He will be greatly missed.
We fall tonight 60-44 to a really, really good Lake City team. I love our kids competitiveness but Lake City was definitely the better team tonight. We move on to play St. Peter tomorrow at 6:00 at Concordia-St Paul. Excited to play again!
Very proud to be on this list with some exceptional programs! Our whole community- from players to parents to school staff- play an important role in our success.
Proud to announce that we are the Section 6AA Academic Champions! Our team has a cumulative GPA of 3.65. One of the many ways that this group is special.
S/O to our AD, Jonathan Ruoff, who coached our 8th graders at NL-S yesterday because the coach was sick and he couldn’t find a replacement. He could have canceled it but wanted the kids to play. Very cool!
@DutchmenHQ
It’s too bad that something that has overwhelming support from boys and girls basketball communities and will make the game better and safer is shot down again. We will have this some day in Minnesota. It’s time.
A great 3 days of basketball as we defeat Cathedral 56-43 to win the Crusader Christmas Classic! We end the 2019 portion of our schedule 8-2 and are due for a much deserved break the next few days.
Awesome win for us tonight as we defeat a very good Moose Lake-Willow River team 104-82 to move to 13-0. The boys set a school record by making 18 threes!
Thank you to
@MLWRboysbball
for coming down to play us. Best of luck!
For the first time in 20 years, Coach Brever will not be coaching this winter in order to spend more time with his family. Coach Brever has been a big part of our success over the years and we thank him for his years of coaching, service, and historical research of the program!
Sometimes, you just have to steal one. Down 10 with 5:00 to go and down 4 with 1:00 to go, our guys stayed with it to get a 71-67 win at Minnewaska! Great resilience by our guys.
Just completed our team academic information. Proud to say that we have nine players with over a 3.8 GPA including four players with a 4.0! Wonderful job by our players.
What a win! The boys go on the road and defeat Spectrum 52-50 in a great playoff atmosphere. Great poise by our guys.
We move on to face Albany at 5:30 at SJU.
What a day for Jesse!!! 4th in the mile and State Champ in the 800. Couldn’t happen to a more humble kid. He overcame a terrible ankle sprain in basketball to become a state champ!
The Dutchmen end the regular season on a high note by beating Holdingford 61-28 to end the regular season with a 20-6 record. Our 6th straight 20 win season and 9th straight season of at least 19 wins! Playoffs start next Thursday.
Tremendous defensive performance tonight as we beat Sauk Centre 49-25. That gives us our 8th straight conference championship! So proud of the growth of this team. Started 2-2 and ended 22-4. Playoffs next week.
If Bruce Kugath can get non-renewed, anyone can get non-renewed. Sad day for MN high school basketball. If these things continue to happen, there simply will not be enough quality coaches out there.
7 of the 8 teams playing at SJU Saturday will have at least 21 wins. Going to be a great day of basketball. Come on out and enjoy the deepest section in the state!
What a game! The Dutchmen win a thriller tonight over St. Cloud Cathedral 87-86 in OT. Just a truly great high school game in a playoff atmosphere. So many great plays by both sides.
#thatwasfun
Very cool thing our junior class is doing at our game against Albany on Friday. They will be raising money for the Schmitz family.
A big thank you to Albany coach Cory Schlagel and their program for participating!
Survive and advance! The boys hung together and gutted out a tough win 61-59 over a very good Kimball team. Teams need to find different ways to win in March and we did that tonight.
The Dutchmen win a slugfest over Albany tonight 73-60 to move to 16-0 on the season!
The boys did a great job of staying poised during the swings of the game, which had a definite March feel to it!
So, so proud of our team! Down double digits in the first half. 3rd game in 4 days. Couldn’t stop NL-S. But we found a way to win 85-82. What a fun offensive battle! Great high school game.
The Dutchmen lose tonight to Albany 60-49 in a great playoff atmosphere at SJU.
So proud of our effort today and all season. Our guys just stuck together all year through the ups and downs. Couldn’t be prouder!
Good luck to senior captain Reegan Nelson on his wrist surgery today. We have certainly missed him on the court but he has found ways to lead while being injured. Good luck Reegan!
Another hard fought win this afternoon over Minnewaska 59-45. Really good toughness by our guys throughout the game.
Congrats to senior Rowan Nelson on scoring his 1000th point!! Awesome accomplishment.
Exciting night of basketball as we defeat Osakis 60-55!! Playoff atmosphere from the opening tip. Thank you to the National Guard for the T shirts, water bottles, and towels. We were proud to wear the T shirts!
