Just a sneak peek of some photos we got done when Ilaria was a week old. More to come because it's a pandemic (we need the feel good content, OK?!) and I'm a proud mom.
I’ve been rightly informed that Book It still exists but Pizza Hut has less market share so we’ve got our work cut out. Call the prize a “book fanum tax” or whatever we gotta do. Don’t leave out the middle and high schoolers! Free dinner for the family in a post-inflation world!
I can’t comprehend galaxies & I can’t comprehend the tender veil that existed between God & my daughters’ first cries. And I can’t comprehend the reality that a parent who knows the Holy gift of soft skin & the smell of their hair are now parted with it, violently. Preventably.
I’m now at the point of toddlerhood where I’m apologizing to my toddler 3x a day for not being able to emotionally regulate my anger and frustration, a thing I’m asking her to master
Parenting is one colossal serving of humble pie
I don’t have words to convey to you how special the
@ArianaGrande
concert was tonite. But I do have some vids that will convey the magic that took place after Ari’s concert. I’ll tell the tale in 3 scenes. First, I lost Michael and then found him drowning in a sea of Arianators.
President Jimmy Carter basically wrote a book on "quiet service" in his post-presidency without actually writing it. His posture, attitude, and actions are a model for anyone. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Praying for a painless passing into Jesus' waiting arms.
This is our Saoirse when we took her to Italy at 1. It was our first night in Bologna & the waiter in a nice restaurant picked her right up & showed her how to make an espresso & spoke to her in Italian while he held her & worked & she ate the bread clutched in her hand.
I say this as an Italian: regardless of whether you want to be a parent, children are people who belong in restaurants and cafes and libraries, and wanting them out of all public spaces has become far too disturbingly normalised in the Anglosphere.
The docs were able to extubate Michael successfully after a few tries today and he’s awake and responsive.
First thing he said to me in a gravelly voice: “Hi, love.” I cried.
Now me & our kids need to get healthy to get home. Thanks for all your prayers!
Michael had a successful surgery but remains intubated due to another health issue and will be kept overnight. I still can’t get home because 1 child is sick.
We could really use prayer right now for Michael.

We could use your prayers. It’s a serious break, requiring imminent surgery, and I’m in another state very ill. Friends, siblings, cousins, and my parents are helping us. But we would covet your prayers.
Substack and the podcast will probably be delayed this coming week!

Well, I broke my leg three times. Prayers would be appreciated. I’m making jokes. Insisting I was in the middle of a musical theater production. Telling the doc he has to get me ready for the NFL draft. You know, the good jokes.
Thank you for all the well wishes! We are blessed with Ilaria. But also Michael’s post was premature because I actually wasn’t healthy post-birth. I developed postpartum preeclampsia, a dangerous condition that’s rare but treatable. I’m better after 24hrs of treatment praise God.
Happy birthday to my best friend, my babies’ daddy, the person who scolds you all on here if you don’t cook your pasta correctly, and everyone’s favorite Bills and Bologna fan. We love you, Michael
@VeithLaura
HELLO
@pizzahut
you have an entire national conversation to seize also expand this through middle school and high school and we might solve the Great National Reading Problem

She immediately started these little giggles when I placed her in the Wear Household Executive Chair™️ for the first time yesterday.
First Lady standing off to the side & trying a couple times to end the convo & then the President continuing to mingle/talk & then giving away his coffee is an ENERGY that I know well being married to
@MichaelRWear
and when he’s chatting everyone & I’m ready to go home.
President Biden: "
#ValentinesDay
is a big. Jill's favorite day. For real."
Q: "What inspired you to do this?"
@FLOTUS
: "I just wanted some joy. With the pandemic, just everybody's feeling a little down. So, it's just a little joy. A little hope. That's all."
Little Women is a masterpiece. I cried ~17 times. Made me think of my own Saoirse every second.
Ronan & Gerwig deserve all the awards. Not seeing much buzz on Eliza Scanlen as Beth but she was magnificent. Underwhelmed by Pugh, surprised by Watson. My top film of last few yrs.
13 years since two 20 year olds got ready in our respective college housing (shout-out
@AmericanU
Leonard Hall) & went to our first inaugural ball. This dress was $40 on sale & I wore patent leather loafers from Payless & we had the best time.
Pay me to do millennial & Z focus groups on why they’re not having kids/more kids—not just for $/climate/not liking kids—but the social aspect of raising kids w/out villages in ⬆️ isolated cityscapes + w/ their socioeconomic location & links to folks’ mental state/PPD. A 🧵
I'm home! Thanks to my parents, friends, & doctors who took care of Michael when I couldn't. So many of you prayed for us & offered help & we are grateful. I've created a meal train for those who offered in that way & you can DM me for more info.

Today was Chancellor Angela Merkel’s last day. When I’m asked “which famous person would you dine with,” my answer has always been Merkel. When I’m asked “who gives you hope in politics,” it’s always been Merkel. A formidable, quiet storm of a leader. Thank you.
Just got out of the Dollar Store to the news that Julius Jones will not die today and now I’m crying in the parking lot. Praise God and well done good and faithful servants to those who fought for this outcome and will move on to the next right move — release.

6 months since leaving hospital for preeclampsia treatment after advocating for myself that 37 for a heart rate wasn’t normal.
PSA for anyone pregnant: know what preeclampsia is & that it can happen ~after~ giving birth. Make sure your partner knows the signs & buy a BP cuff!
Amanda Gorman has me crying. It’s so good. She also has a speech impediment that affects her “R” pronunciation and she is nailing a gorgeous poem in front of millions around the world. Sometimes I’m in awe of others’ minds and the things that come out of it.

I have been asked to share an update from Michael, my husband: “As in the feature film Interstellar, exactly as in Interstellar, I will be entering a cryogenic sleep chamber so as to optimize my full lifespan of tweeting. Wake me when I can tweet. I hope Melissa isn’t super old.”
We took Saoirse to the restaurant where we had our first date when we were 16. It has us all sentimental to be able to take our girl around our hometown and show her where we fell in love.
Now that this election is basically wrapped, I feel like it's a good time to announce the inauguration
@MelissaMWear
and I are most excited about in 2021:

Personally I prefer this account. She credits the person who really started this update trend. She doesn’t have a huge wardrobe and commits to staples. Doesn’t put millennial fashion down or pressure you into thinking you’re ancient. Etc
Hi! If you've been putting off going to your GP or getting your breasts checked, please go! I just had a big health scare - I'm OK - but I would have never known something was amiss until a doc caught something abnormal. If you have good insurance, use it!
We welcomed this hoped-for, prepared-for and longed-for little lady very early on November 24. Please meet Saoirse James Wear. She is incredibly sweet and already doted on and so loved by…
Kensington Palace just single handedly rewrote how the RF plays a role in 21st C public life — be a beacon of hope, connection & comfort in an era of disconnection & dysfunction around the world. Cuts through the constant digital noise w/wonderful news.
Soft Power masterclass.
My 2.5 year old goes to bed exhausted each night not due to social interaction or academic challenges, but due to the fact she straight-up prowls around our house looking for the next thing to terrorize or bother or rearrange. Her brain is constantly searching for destruction.
I didn’t present as preeclampsia but I knew about it & that helped me seek help & my strange symptoms were believed. WOC more often are not believed and that honestly makes me weep. And women w/out adequate healthcare might not seek help. It must all change.

@MelissaMWear
and I are thrilled to share that we are expecting a baby girl in December. We are ecstatic. We feel so incredibly blessed, and we are already in love with our sweet girl.
I can’t wait for the day when we have a new narrative around motherhood so that when I’m describing my motivations for how I’ve constructed my vocations & ambitions, I don’t have to add 17 caveats & others don’t have to as well.
We really don't know how to deal w/ the death of someone ultra-famous who is a) beloved by more people than we can comprehend, but is b) a painful figure for more people than we can comprehend. W/social media & knowledge access, we don't have spaces for complex memorialization.
When
@MichaelRWear
worked for President Obama, we sometimes got tickets to shows @ the Kennedy Center in the President’s box. We saw Follies in 2011 & I sat next to Sec. Colin Powell. He LOVED Bernadette Peters & it was a joy to sit next to him. A truly lovely man. May he RIP.
