Such sad news—Cloris was insanely talented. She could make you laugh or cry at the drop of a hat. Always such a pleasure to have on set. Every time I hear a horse whinny I will forever think of Cloris’ unforgettable Frau Blücher. She is irreplaceable, and will be greatly missed.

Neil Simon was a clutch hitter. When we needed the punchline on Your Show of Shows he delivered. He also delivered 32 plays and over 20 movies. He was one of the sweetest & least jealous writers you could ever work with. For all who knew him, this is a truly sad day.
So sad to hear about the passing of Jimmy Caan. He was a joy to work with on SILENT MOVIE. Besides being a terrific actor, he was just a great guy. So full of joie de vivre. He will really be missed by all those that knew him.
Thanks so much for all the congrats on my Peabody Career Achievement Award. I really appreciate a prestigious organization finally taking a funny man seriously!
So very sorry to hear about the loss of Ivan Reitman. I loved watching his warm and funny goofball comedies over and over. He was truly a uniquely talented and gifted comedy filmmaker. They don't come along too often. He will be sorely missed.
I was so sorry to hear that we lost Richard Lewis. I will miss him very much. He was so funny, and I was so lucky to have him play Prince John in ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS. But I was even luckier to have him in my life.
The world has suddenly become a sadder place to live in with the passing of Norman Lear. He was a great positive force in the entertainment industry, & more importantly to me personally he was a good friend. We are so lucky to have his remarkable body of work to remember him by.
Writing both music and lyrics for a Broadway show is not easy to do—I know, because I’ve done it. But Stephen Sondheim could do it all and made it look easy. He was an incredible gift to the Broadway stage. He will be sorely missed.
Sidney Poitier—such a great loss, such a talent. He did so much for breaking racial barriers in movies. But he was also just a wonderful guy to hang out with, and I’m glad I have those memories. He will be sorely missed.
I want to thank the wonderful audience who came to the
@peacock_theater
on Saturday night to see me and celebrate the 50th anniversary of BLAZING SADDLES. You were such a great crowd that I’m still walking on air!
Happy to announce to the world that the 1st French language production of The Producers musical in Paris “Les Producteurs” has won two prestigious Molière Awards, including Best Musical! Huge congrats to the whole cast and crew!
Tomorrow on
@TCM
is a full day of the films of Anne Bancroft! I might be biased, but my favorite is TO BE OR NOT TO BE (1983), because I was honored to be her co-star. What a glorious time we had!
Thanks so much to all the
@tcm
fans who came out last night to pack the
@ChineseTheatres
and watch SPACEBALLS on the big screen for the TCM Classic Film Festival 2024 closing night. It was thrilling to hear so many laughs shake the theater! May the Schwartz be with you!

It’s a sad day when Norman Steinberg leaves us. From BLAZING SADDLES to MY FAVORITE YEAR, he was one of the best writers I ever worked with. I’m so glad I rescued him from a dull stable legal career, because he always permeated the writers room with his infectious comic spirit.
Attention Los Angeles! I’m doing a live appearance on July 27th following a special 50th Anniversary screening of BLAZING SADDLES on the big screen at The Peacock Theater. Tickets go on sale tomorrow!
Attention UK fans, tonight is Mel Brooks night on BBC Four! Thur Sept. 22nd starting at 8pm you have MEL BROOKS: UNWRAPPED on IMAGINE… with my old pal Alan Yentob, followed by a double feature of THE PRODUCERS and BLAZING SADDLES!
So sad to hear of the passing of my dear friend and gifted choreographer Alan Johnson. He created that unforgettable Springtime for Hitler number in my first movie, The Producers. He shall be sorely missed. He was one of a kind.
When BLAZING SADDLES premiered in 1974 at the Pickwick Drive-In in Burbank, most of the audience arrived on horseback! I'm doing a live appearance after a special 50th Anniversary screening at the
@peacock_theater
on July 27 at 7:30pm... but please leave your horse at home!
Was so saddened to hear of Buck Henry’s passing yesterday. I remember the joy I felt every morning when I was on the way to work with Buck on the pilot of Get Smart. He could break me up with just a screwy look on his face. He was a truly great comedy writer who will be missed.
Today is the day! My autobiography ALL ABOUT ME! is available in paperback. Not only are all the wonderful words and pictures still there, but now it is light enough to carry it with you wherever you go.
Thrilled to say that the sensational original London cast recording of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN The Musical recorded LIVE on stage in the West End will finally be available in the US on May 7th from
@NotefornoteEnt
I loved watching this
@CBSSunday
piece talking about Carl Reiner’s legacy and how the
#NationalComedyCenter
has named their extensive comedy archives in his honor. It was a wonderful salute to my best friend.
@NtlComedyCenter
Sad to hear about the passing of Peter Bogdanovich. He was a gifted filmmaker who taught us so much about movies and those who made them. He will be missed.
Sad to hear of Carol Arthur’s passing. She was so great in Blazing Saddles as Harriett Johnson the over-the-top, outspoken schoolmarm. She will be missed.
Alan Ladd Jr. was one of a kind. He was perhaps the best studio chief ever to run a film company. He was always there with love and support for me and my films. Laddie was special. I will miss him very much.
Thank you
@cinespia
for showing YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN to a sold out crowd at Hollywood Forever Cemetery this past weekend - I hear people were dying to get in!
I’m happy to announce that “The Mel Brooks Songbook” is now available from

So happy to see that out of all David Cronenberg’s great films THE FLY (produced by Brooksfilms!) was chosen by

as number one! I may be a bit biased but it’s my favorite Cronenberg film too.
IT’S ALIVE! Happy opening night to the whole cast & crew of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN at the
@LaMiradaTheatre
! I’m so glad that the electrifying London version of the musical is getting a Southern California premiere!
Very sad news today. I’ve known a lot of nice people in my life, but nobody nicer than Jay Kanter. If you knew him, you loved him. He was more than a legendary agent. He was a loyal friend, always there when you needed him. I know it’s a cliché but in Jay’s case it is just so
Thank you
@tcm
and
@BenMank77
for a terrific triple feature! Three of my favorite movies—YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, HIGH ANXIETY, and BLAZING SADDLES all coming your way tonight!
What director is known for an infamous shower scene and bird attack? You’ve guessed it: Mel Brooks! Not who you were expecting? In HIGH ANXIETY (’77), Brooks parodied several Hitchcock tropes.
Laugh along with our Mel Brooks Triple Feature this evening beginning at 8pm ET.
Today is the day! The fantastic Original London Cast Recording of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN The Musical recorded live on stage in the West End is finally available digitally throughout the world and also for the first time ever on CD!
I’m thrilled that the
@NtlComedyCenter
will be preserving Carl’s archives and naming its preservation department in his honor—because no one deserves it more than my best friend. Carl’s comedy was timeless & now his name will live on for generations with this wonderful tribute.
So happy to share that the audiobook I recorded for my memoir ALL ABOUT ME! has been nominated for a GRAMMY Award today! All the other nominees are excellent, but for some strange reason…I like mine the best.
George Shapiro was one in a million. A truly outstanding and wonderful person who did so much for comedy. Always cheerful and full of energy—To know him was to love him. I already miss him so much.
John Morris, who was strangely unsung for being such a musical genius, scored almost every movie I ever made and he was never wrong. From his immortal Transylvanian lullaby theme for Young Frankenstein...
Sorry to read that we lost Sheldon Harnick, one of Broadways best lyricists. We did “New Faces of 1952” together and he wrote a brilliantly funny song called “The Boston Beguine” which Alice Ghostley sang to perfection! A joy to work with or just have lunch with. He’ll be missed.
I’ll be doing a live Q&A alongside a screening of Blazing Saddles live in London this July! Tickets are on sale now, get them here:
