I’m on an interview social where they sent us a gift card for food and legit no one is eating. Meanwhile I’m on camera eating an entire personal pizza and have a cheesecake slice ready for dessert ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe it’s because i don’t come from a background of money but i am PUMPED to make a resident salary. I think a lot of us forget that the money you make as a resident is often the same or more than the people you work alongside who also put in those brutal hours.
Name pronunciation is a basic sign of respect between people that many take for granted. If you wouldn’t be comfortable mispronouncing your supervisor’s name then you shouldn’t be comfortable mispronouncing a patient’s either. We are there to serve them 👏🏾
I’ll just add to this don’t be afraid to ask the patient how to say it correctly! I may be Nigerian but i grew up in AZ so it’s not like i had extensive exposure to Nigerian names. It takes intentional learning!
Some patients may be hesitant to correct you because of past experiences so sometimes I say “could you please tell me how to say your name correctly because it’s important to me?” This can change the energy of the entire encounter
My med school/hospital just got a boba machine🔥. I’m definitely suffering some emotional damage since this was added when my 4th year is almost over but will still take advantage 🧋
Every hospital really should have a zero tolerance policy for mistreatment of staff. Especially in the a&o x3 patient. Idk why healthcare has this mentality that patients can act however they want. Patient behavior can be terrible and staff are just expected to deal with it
I feel like residency programs should be given the funding to provide a sign on bonus that equals the average 1 month rent for a 1 bedroom apartment to residents. Funding the gap between ending med school and the first residency paycheck is a huge stressor
Application submitted! I am Niyi Adewale Soetan an

Pro tip: the hands clasped behind the back look makes it look like you have no arms. Will reconsider poses 😂
Can’t believe i graduate med school in 24 days 🎉
Happy to be able to celebrate another year. Turned 27 today 🎂. This year I will match, graduate with an MD, and become an emergency medicine doc! Another great year on the way 🙌🏾
Officially Niyi Adewale Soetan, MD aka Dr. Niyi Soetan! I’m so proud to have finally made it to this point and along side so many classmates. My 4 years at

Got my STEP 2 score back and it went great! Away rotation has been locked in. My EM application is coming together quickly and on track to be ready when i apply 🙏🏾.

When you start off as a pre med no one tells you about the mental fortitude it takes to keep going. Pre med —> Med school —> Residency—> +/- Fellowship —> Attending
Celebrate all your wins along the way. Don’t wait till the end because the path is LONG
I finished my ophthalmology rotation and i think i came out more well rested than when i started. It’s everything
@DGlaucomflecken
said it was. Just was never fed any grapes
Broke character as a doctor today. Was rounding on trauma patients and asked a guy if he’s tolerating PO and he was like “yeah I’ve had this Popeyes here” and for some reason i immediately said “you must be tolerating food well with them dry ass biscuits”😬
Am i saying residents shouldn’t get paid more? No. What i am saying is that most healthcare positions are underpaid. Especially resident physicians, nurses, and social workers.
I am trying to decide what my ED swag should be
1) Scrub cap EM doc
2) Gold chain on shift EM doc
3) Sneaker head EM doc
4) Wildness EM doc (patagucci vest and Fanny pack)
5) white coat EM doc (jk never)
@EM_RESUS
Everyone saying this is bad because you’ll miss injuries is missing the point. The OP isn’t even saying don’t take their clothes off he’s just saying don’t cut them. And even in a trauma it’s possible for patients to be stable anyone who has done trauma knows that
A lot of people are just reacting to the first tweet without reading the second or reflecting. Acknowledging others are underpaid does NOT negate the point residents need to be paid much more.
Secured housing 🙌🏾. Next plans for purchases in this initial year of residency include:
- new couch
- new mattress
- car (down payment)
Once i accomplish this I’ll be so satisfied 🙏🏾.
2022 will be a major year for me
1) I get my MD and finally get to call myself doctor✊🏾
2) I will get to pursue my goals of being an amazing emergency medicine physician🔥
3) I will continue to be happy and healthy and able to spend time with the people i love🙏🏾
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE, INCLUDING THE HATERS AND THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA! 2019 WILL BE A FANTASTIC YEAR FOR THOSE NOT SUFFERING FROM TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME. JUST CALM DOWN AND ENJOY THE RIDE, GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING FOR OUR COUNTRY!
Last thing I’ll say. There is the ability to express gratitude for finally having an income and also understanding the need for advocacy for better pay. It’s not black and white.
@ElysianHue
You really should delete this. What you are sharing isn’t accurate.
- CRP is not a heart damage marker
- ANA screening along cannot diagnose autoimmunity
- D-dimer routine screening is not a thing
You shouldn’t give medical advice when you aren’t qualified to
I saw a patient yesterday and told them i was their doctor and they were like “is this a joke?! You look like doogie howser”😂. Then someone said “you gotta cover those tatts you don’t look like no doctor!” What a day 😂
Residency really pushes you to be intentional about doing the things you like. I’m in a soccer league and every once in a while I’m start to dread going because I’m tired but then I’m always happy i went after! Don’t let residency fatigue stop you from ~*Living The Dream*~
1) this person is trash
2) this person clearly doesn’t know how the match actually works in detail
3) why is no one ever concerned when programs are >90% white men despite (US: 30% white men)
All these bozos out here i swear

gratitude doesn’t even convey the level of emotion. I’ve never experienced something like this so thank you so much to everyone who participates in this. I WILL pay it forward next year ✊🏾
Something i love about so many of the EM programs is that they are very transparent about the fact that they are taking time to do a holistic review of each application rather than relying on scores. Gives me confidence I’ll find my best match!

I really wish as a collective med students could abandon the practice of submitting letters of intent to programs. I feel like it forces other applicants to do it out of fear of not looking as good and it takes away some of our power as the applicant
Addendum: Wakefield did not say “i lied” in those exact words but he did admit to fabricating details and has been found to have taken money to create a favorable study. Here is a link to a brief article about sample collects. Cross reference as you please
ED shifts
8 hour - glorious. No matter how bad the beating you time will fly and you will go home
9 hour - why does this exist
10 hour - tolerable. Worth it in exchange for a couple less shifts. 3 in a row is the sweet spot
12 hour - soul crushing. 2x as painful overnight
@autefeh
Imagine seeing someone suggest a boba and ice cream outing and getting triggered by it. This CLEARLY isn’t a dig at people who enjoy drinking. If this offended y’all you need to reflect about why 🌚
