Incredibly powerful moment at the anti-Polexit protest in Warsaw just now as two Warsaw Uprising veterans take to the stage.
"We have always been in Europe, no one will take us out. This is our Europe".

Having intentionally had himself arrested & sent to Auschwitz in order to gather intelligence & organise resistance cells, Witold Pilecki, along with two other prisoners, escaped

in 1943. His report to the Allies was the first indication of what was happening in the camp.
@JonnElledge
Very sad news & a good reminder of just how recent an invention it is.
But *please* can everyone stop citing Visegrad 24 as a credible source. It's one of the most profoundly misleading accounts on here.
@Telegraph
Another example of how the Telegraph doesn't understand history.
- Germans have learnt from the past & understand, and moved on.
- The UK still seems to think war is a good thing.
- No one thinks national history is an irrelevance - we just know it isn't representative.
@TheDailyShow
Could it be that
@Trevornoah
is projecting the US onto somewhere which isn't the US again? Why, yes it is. While some small pockets made racist comments this isn't true of the UK by any stretch of the imagination.
Can I recommend speaking to some Brits.
@MarkSharon_DP
@Telegraph
The Third Reich was in power for a little over 12 years. What do you mean by 'continuum of behaviour'?
The Second World War was a catastrophe which needs to be understood (cause & effect) not idolised.
I asked you for something Germany is specifically responsible for?
If any account on Twitter deserves this it's this one.
@AuschwitzMuseum
is doing a very important and special job keeping memories alive and informing the public of what happened all those years ago.
We do not even know if a billion followers is possible. Yet we know that every follower is important. Each person can help us to educate and commemorate the victims of Auschwitz.
Perhaps 750,000 followers for the 75th anniversary of liberation is a realistic goal?
@Newsweek
Says the platform which continues to allow Holocaust denial & Antisemitism because it's a widely held view. No one is stifling Trump's freedom of speech, he can still say whatever he likes, but Twitter, a private company, has chose to provide a check & balance. He has other fora.
@MarkSharon_DP
@Telegraph
What behaviour regarding Greece specifically?
How is this related to attitudes towards history and in particular the Second World War?
@STWuk
You see, the problem with this map is that before a lot of these cou tries joined Nato by choice they were under a different sort of military alliance - a forced one which would not allow them to leave.
@BBCNews
People who can't move on? EU migrants in the UK? UK citizens in the EU? Those hoping to experience Erasmus? Anyone wanting to use their Freedom of Movement? Anyone having to fork out extra for medical insurance & mobile phone bills? Anyone who needs to pay for food.
Delete this.
@historic_ly
Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.
Added to that Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, & Romania could all have strong feelings about that.
@jeremycorbyn
The Nazis definitely lost a war, so I'd say the Allies won that one. We definitely prevented further genocide in Kosovo despite your best efforts, so I'd say we won that one. Wars are a catastrophe & the idea Putin is open to reason is nonsensical & naive at best.
@TheDailyShow
@ronnychieng
This is neither funny or true. Perhaps Americans should look at their own racial stereotyping & stop projecting how they see the world onto other countries. The UK is not the US, & Rishi Sunak is Asian.
Why is everyone in hysterics at this?
@Otto_English
Food classism is one of my least favourite tropes in UK discourse. It just reinforces the idea that enjoying food & cooking are only for a few. Most of the world's most famous dishes are the food of the poor.
@Telegraph
Why don't you do a study on the current revolving door between No.10 & the highest roles in the BBC? You might surprise yourselves if it's political beliefs you are after.
As of today, Warsaw officially has a Freddie Mercury Avenue!!
The street is the first of any capital city (as far as I know) named after the singer & runs between the British & Spanish embassies, through the famous Łazienki Royal Park & near Legia Warsaw's football stadium.
@VikaSirko
I get he fought for Ukrainian freedom, but he not only collaborated with Nazi Germany, but his forces were responsible for the Wołyn massacre of tens of thousands of Poles.
*is only just becoming apparent to Telegraph readers.
Let's not pretend this is a surprise to everyone. It was obvious if you knew what becoming a third country meant.
Brexit is now a series of inevitable consequences portrayed as new, unforeseen, unnecessarily vindictive
✈️ Brexit may be “done”, but from the traveller’s point of view, the full implications of what it means for our holidays are only just becoming apparent

@Telegraph
I'd agree on both those points. That's why I set it out by putting the burden of proof on them. It soon ended the discussion.
As for the Telegraph, it sadly still has a reach and influence and therefore it needs to be challenged. if not the paper itself then the audience.
@BBCNews
Other than him not having the requisite knowledge or qualifications what does being a wedding singer have to do with anything?
'Racist wants to stop migrant boats & prevent legitimate asylum claims after kids drown' would be a better headline than what amounts to a heroisation.
@MirrorFighting
A better headline would be 'Amir Khan wrongly blames 'man-made' coronavirus on building of '5G towers'' or 'Amir Khan falls for hoax'.
Your headline leaves enough ambiguity to make some readers believe his is a credible position.
@Otto_English
Colston died in 1721, his statue was erected in 1895. The existence of his statue said more about the values the Victorians wished to celebrate than any of his achievements or the views of his contemporaries.
With the graffiti it's a palimpsest telling many different stories.
@Nigel_Farage
What's your evidence for calling out voter fraud, Nigel?
Why are you interfering in the democratic elections of a sovereign country in which you cannot vote?
@ukhomeoffice
A) If they were from Lithuania they weren't here illegally. They came under reciprocal Freedom of Movement rights.
B) Returning foreign criminals is something we can do under current EU rules. In fact it is the reason we are able to do it without a problem.
@VikaSirko
I'm really sorry but that's just not true. I know it's complicated and will take time, but understanding what happened and why Bandera is considered a bad person, especially in Poland, is important
@Fio_edwards
@lacunosus
I guess one way of eliminating poverty is to eliminate the people, stick them in camps, forcibly sterilise the women & murder them.
Never let it be forgotten you're giving genocide a free pass because it comes in Communist packaging.
Do Uighur lives not matter too?
@timashburner
@theAliceRoberts
@revkatebottley
I'd argue it isn't meant to be constructive criticism either, it's entirely designed as a 'nonsense' jibe at those who do celebrate at this time. If we are pushing for a society where everyone is free to practise their faith then ridiculing at their holiest time is cheap.
Came home with me two years ago today from
@CatsProtection
& it's hard to remember a time without him.
Made the last 24 months so much better. Adopt a pet is so rewarding.
@NadineDorries
You're an elected politician, answerable to the electorate, it's not surprising the public wish to speak their mind, especially to a health minister during a pandemic.
@Twitter
should not allow MPs to disable their comments, particularly when they need challenging & calling out.
@geordiedee
@KTHopkins
I mean, it really isn't. Health Tourism is a minor issue when it comes to the NHS's issues. You have no evidence to support that claim and The NHS is for whoever lives in the UK.
@mikegalsworthy
@BorisJohnson
Think we have to keep in mind just how much he is liked & respected in Ukraine for his very active support. To them this will probably be good to hear in terms of morale if nothing more.
@POLITICOEurope
With a German manager, Belgian and Dutch scorers, and a plethora of other internationals too.
Can we please not link football to Brexit.
@geordiedee
@KTHopkins
That's the point, it isn't being abused. Health tourism accounts for such a tiny proportion of the NHS budget and time that it wastes more time and money to focus on it while other greater problems, such as underfunding and staff shortages, are ongoing.

@shaunwalker7
It's still the 'bad advisers' who are to blame though, so Putin would not have done this were he not misled. That misses fact much of the ideology behind the lack of a Ukrainian identity & Russia's historic, messianic claim over the land, was Putin's own.
@VikaSirko
Neither link I provided is from a Polish source. Killing tens of thousands, including women & children is never justified.

Is it spite that it applies to Australians, Americans, Argentinians, & Armenians? It's applicable to a non EU citizens which now includes anyone travelling on a British passport

A year today since my cat came to live with me & having him around this last year has been a great distraction from the world. Hard work but it's really rewarding. Organisations like

do an amazing job. If you can (pandemic restrictions notwithstanding), adopt.

How about the puppet government in Poland after the war? How about Katyn? How was any of that to counter the threat of the US? How was it in line with what Poland itself wanted?
@Tessadunlop
The US. For all its very many faults it's still a democracy & isn't imprisoning a million people from an ethnic minority & sterilising the women.
@Otto_English
I'm not sure I'd quite go so far as this. She is absolutely British & that means both that she should be dealt with by the British state & that it can happen here. While she is a victim, she is also a perpetrator guilty of some heinous crimes & that can't be filed under naive.
@Otto_English
One thing has always baffled me: In the UK we view bilingual Brits as middle class, but the fact so many non Brits have at least two languages is never viewed in the same way. They're always 'low skilled' & 'poor'.
@KTHopkins
Clear sign of the factual accuracy of your work and your understanding of what's happening. 'Bibi and Netanyahu'... Well done for showing you haven't a clue.
The Zelenskyy - with all proceeds going to the Ukrainian humanitarian relief fund - is well worth a visit to Ognisko alone.
Kavka vodka, apricot brandy, Lemon juice, & blue curaçao.
When in London, why not? It's sweet & strong.
@theAliceRoberts
Not a Christian then, I take it. We'd never have guessed. I'm not especially religious either, but for some atheism can come across as a cult-like religion of its own. Is there any real need to say this? Sure, you don't believe, but why the projection onto others' celebrations?
Extraordinary photo taken Easter Saturday 1948 of queues entering Warsaw's ruined & as yet unreconstructed Arch-cathedral of St John the Baptist.
Destroyed in 1944, it was rebuilt not to its prewar plan, but instead according to how the 14thC design was thought to have looked.
@tomhfh
Tom, the key difference between US and EU food standards is that in the US rat hairs, maggots, and rodent faeces are permitted in some quantity.
That's simply true.
Also, why are you picking on Romanian and Bulgarian food? Why are you suggesting they don't adhere to standards?

You didn't listen to a single word she said, did you? She's talking about non Israeli Jews being expected to answer for & bear responsibility for the actions of a state to which they do not belong. She is talking about attacks on non Israeli Jews for something they didn't do.
Who needs RT when you have Simon Jenkins getting a free pass at the Guardian?
Honestly,
@guardian
, enough with the Putin propaganda. The way to resolve food & energy shortages is for Russia not to invade anyone.
