We're racing towards smart labels for package level freshness visibility. In the meantime we developed "BearCub", a larger device that is trialing now with major UK retailers and protein processors. BearCub also enables consumers to measure their food freshness at home!
European fresh meat gets a 10 day shelf life. US fresh meat gets 30 days.
Huge difference for essentially the same product. European retailers have to sell food in 1/3 of the time before its wasted.
To reduce it, we need to talk about the causes

We developed a disposable micro-qPCR technology that can detect cDNA of SARS-CoV-2 and genomic DNA of Mycobacteria. The small chip (10x10x0.65mm) integrates heating, temperature sensing and nucleic acid detection functions of PCR in a single device.
There's a trade-off with food waste and food safety.
If it's past the use-by date, do you waste it or risk it?
The food industry has to balance this trade-off and they usually prioritise food safety
#foodwaste
Food shelf-life is a fixed, conservative estimate. It has to be, to make sure we don't get sick. The consequence: Its mostly still good to eat when we bin it

Fertilizers help feed the world; too little and yields drop, too much and soil is ruined. We developed a new sensor & machine learning model to enable precision fertilization. We produce soil nitrogen data on-site instantly and predict it into the future.
We're on the Imperial College front page today with our latest work on electronic devices inside fabrics. Batteries, DNA sensors and electronics inside paper and cotton fabrics, why not?

causes are way down, with a reported 40-60% drop in heart attack patients! Purported cause is people not going to hospital. But could it be the closure of unhealthy restaurants or, heaven forbid, people becoming health conscious?🤔
I walked into the supermarket across from the office to find empty shelves.
The fridges had failed, and every chilled item was gone. What happened to the food, was it taken home by staff, donated to food banks?
You already know.
The problem is use-by dates are fixed,

Why is 1/3 of food wasted? Why do we still use static use-by dates on food? Nice article from

19th century life went from horse-drawn carriages to steam engines, from handwritten letters to telegraphs, and from oil lamps to electric lights. Such disruption, our 21st century selves can hardly comprehend.
18th century's top hits:
1️⃣ Steam Engine - moving without muscles
2️⃣ Smallpox Vaccine - take a jab at diseases
3️⃣ Hot air balloon - because birds aren't real
‘Not for EU’ labelling is now required for food from the UK being sold in Northern Ireland. Clearly not well received by customers, who assume its a quality issue.
This Christmas we give thanks to the new AI tools of 2023, which are changing every industry including ours. Each piece of this video was generated with AI (Midjourney, RunwayML and Sumo).
Instead of a static use-by date, shelf-life will be predicted by AI and sensors.

Damaging soils with fertilizer is a big and measurable environmental problem, but rarely spoken of
We wanted to help growers maximize yields with minimal overfertilization, using new sensors + available sensors + machine learning

Food prices are going up, this year and into the decade
High energy and fertilizer prices are here, population is growing to 10bn, while we're getting less yield from farmland with overfertilization
Food waste is hurting more
Lets talk about solutions

MAPPING THE METAVERSE
A new world order is here: The ETH x DeFi x NFT metaverse.
This is my attempt to map it all. Please share this crazy thread and say hi 👋 🦊
tl;dr - this is so much bigger than I ever imagined… and none of us has enough

🚀 From radar to the internet, many of today's technologies are byproducts of military research during times of great power conflict. Peace has its virtues but, paradoxically, rapid tech progression often aligns with eras of tension.

They are all way too high, which prevents UK spinouts raising money and creating value in the UK. Often UK universities include crazy clauses like non-dilution. USA universities generally take much less equity (5%).
The 19th century saw some of the most amazing technological revolutions:
- Telegraph
- Rail
- Phones
- Cars
- Vaccines
- Photos
One hundred years later, the world still looks for the same kind of magnitude in innovation.
