BREAKING: On a 10-5 vote, the House Appropriations Committee voted last night to advance our “Pay Teachers First Plan.” This was a key issue I ran on in 2022 — giving every Arizona teacher at $10k raise, making them some of the highest paid teachers in the nation. 1/
I have vetoed the legislative budget that kicks the can down the road. Arizonans deserve a budget that takes the real issues we are facing seriously. Now, let’s get to work.
This is an important election, and I'll NEVER take your vote for granted. I'm determined to earn your trust and your support.
If you believe in secure borders, public safety, low taxes, a lower cost of living and strong schools with great teachers, then I'm your guy! -Matt

’ parents struggled to provide her with an education THEY thought best.
It’s unfortunate she wants AZ families to choose between being on food stamps or sending their kids to the school they choose.
Let’s help families. Give them a choice, not push them down.
House Republicans are reviewing Governor Hobbs’ budget proposal but based on the left-wing wish list of spending details disclosed so far, I’m confident to say that it will be dead on arrival.
Governor, you *do* know the utilities already submitted those plans and briefed the Commission…back in April…right? (SEE: )
And you do realize the excessive heat warning has been in effect for nearly a month? We’ve hit new records for several weeks now?
Today, I sent a letter to Arizona's utility companies asking for written plans outlining how they will protect Arizonans during this devastating heat wave, and inviting them to discuss how we can work together to better prepare for the future.
You can read my letter HERE:
ANNOUNCEMENT: Today, I’m introducing the “Pay Teachers First Plan” that will give EVERY Arizona public school teacher a $10,000 raise – with 100% of the new state dollars going directly to the teachers, rather than bureaucracy, and significantly boosting starting teacher pay.

Arizona is facing some very important issues. The people we serve want us to find common ground where we can and the civility to disagree when we cannot.
This behavior falls short of a Governor who is serious about working with Republicans to get things done for our community.
"The ink is fresh as anything,"
@GovernorHobbs

I call on legislative leadership to immediately bring to the floor a measure that will repeal the territorial ban, restore modern-day protections for Arizona women, protect new life and make the 15-week statute the law of the land.
I thank the House for a unanimous vote on my FIRST bill (HB 2225). It “tears the paper ceiling” on applicants for state jobs who may not have a 4-year degree but who have skills through alternative routes (STARS).

Why? It is bizarre to say the least. However, clearly some on the left want nothing more than to use teachers as a political football. They don’t want to *solve* this issue — they want to campaign on it. As a former teacher myself, I find that appalling. 3/
How it started: How it ended:
Thanks Governor
@DougDucey
for the distinct privilege to serve the people of Arizona in your administration. I look forward to continuing your legacy of “Opportunity for All” in the Arizona House.
Excited to be sworn in today to represent Legislative District 4 in the State House and I’m grateful for everyone who knocked doors, donated money, installed many (many) signs, and, most of all, believing in me. 1/
I will continue fighting for Arizona teachers. Arizonans want us to work together, finding solutions and common ground. Last night, my Democratic colleagues put partisan politics FIRST, and doing the right thing for AZ teachers and schools LAST. 4/4
Sadly, House Democrats (with the exception of 1) voted against this measure, twisting themselves into knots to find ways to oppose it. The state’s teachers union — known for partisan bullying tactics — lobbied HEAVILY against it. 2/
Today’s ruling striking down the largest income tax hike on Arizonans affirms that out-of-state special interests cannot ignore our State Constitution. 1/2
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge John Hannah has dealt the final blow to Prop 208. Because the money from the tax hike can't be spent without exceeding the aggregate expenditure limit for K-12 schools, it violates the Arizona Constitution, he ruled.
Today, I’m proud to join with teachers, school board members, and my legislative colleagues to introduce a plan that sends 100% of NEW State Land Trust resources for K-12 education DIRECTLY to the classroom.
If approved by voters, classroom teachers will get a $4,000 RAISE. 1/
