WIAA needs to put in a shot clock period. Leads to more coaching, cleans up end of games, prepares kids for the next level. It just makes the game better. Cost is minimal. Lets take a step forward.
Two simple things that help take basketball to the next level in WI:
1. Add a shot clock
2. Add a charge circle
Would both be absolutely great for the game!
Four improvements I'd like to see to High School Basketball by WIAA:
1. 35 Second Shot Clock
2. 6 or 8 Division 1 Teams at State Tournament
3. Charge Circle
4. Go back to Coaches Voting on Tournament Seeds
All of these would improve the game in my Opinion.
Watching NCAA games tonight, I cannot imagine these games without a shot clock. It doesnt call for less coaching, it calls for more.
It won't decrease numbers of participants. It may actually increase them. Lets add it to HS games in Wisconsin, it's time.
Shot clocks approved in Illinois. Full implementation in 2026. Now, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa all with Shot Clocks! If these states can all find a way, so can Wisconsin!
We beat Monona Grove tonight 70-51 to advance to sectionals for the first team in 19 years. The change from 4 wins in 2018-19 to 18 and a sectional birth in 2020-21 is tremendous. Culture is truly changing!!!
In a week, the computers will do WIAA seedings for the tournament. I always have preferred in person, coaches voting. Still would. I can deal with computers but would prefer a appeals process to what they calculate. Multiple things not considered that ahould be IMO.
Have never seen a conference as a whole disrespected like the Big 8 by computers. Madison Memorial is in 2nd and gets a
#10
seed? In my 5 years coaching here this is the best the Big 8 has been. Let coaches vote, have an appeal process, something has to change.....
Kinda of a Bittersweet Day. My 17u team ended their AAU Career by winning Bigfoot Las Vegas Classic. We were 52-8 this AAU Season, following up a 41-9 16u Season. I'll no doubt miss this group. Winners win. Thats what these guys did for 3 years. Very proud of them!
Watching the state tournament the past few days was great, good games, good atmosphere, great time of year. Two things that it re-affirmed to me is adding a Charge Circle and a Shot Clock are great next steps for the game!! Both great for the game!
First NY2LA event of the year. 30 second shot clock. Gonna be standard this spring/summer for AAU. More states adding it daily. What is Wisconsin waiting for? Move the game forward!!!
@SeanCriderBB
Still want to see a Shot Clock added to the High School game. So many benefits for the game and the athletes:
1. Cleans up end of games
2. Increases ammount of Coaching/Strategy
3. Prepares athletes for next level
4. Creates a better brand of basketball.
I'd love to see the WIAA go with a Shot Clock for all Varsity Games. 35 or 40 seconds. Yes there would be an initial cost to put in. However after that, and I fail to see negatives. I feel with a shot clock you actually have to coach more, as you have to run more sets...ect
Proud of my guys tonight, first game of the year against a good Verona team. We battled to the end and started the season off with a 70-60 road win. Very proud of all my guys.
Got our 14th win of the season with a hard fought win over a good Verona team. Fought to force OT. Then finished the game in OT. Very happy with the resilience we are showing. Making good progress changing the culture. Most wins by a Parker team in 39 years.
I am a proponent of adding a shot clock. 27 states had shot clocks heading into the 2023-24 season. They all found ways to overcome monetary and personal challenges. Coaches in those states speak highly of the shot clock. Its time to take that step forward in WI.
Shot Clocks need to be in the game now. Playing with one all Spring, its apparent it cleans the game up and makes it better. End of games is so much cleaner and better. They reward defense. Continuing to be one of the minority of states that dont have one is not thenway to go
Still have a wishlist for Wisconsin High School Basketball:
1. Shot Clock
2. Charge Circle
3. 6-8 Division 1 teams at State
4. Transparency in Seeding
5. Appeals process to Seeding
We Survived and advanced tonight. Won 73-70 in OT in a great High School Basketball game. First trip to a Regional Final in 20 years for Parker. Seniors are resilient. Have made play after play in the clutch all season. Opponent and location are TBD.

Congrats to my 16u Swing Team who won the NY2LA Invite today, went 6-0 this weekend with wins over: Chicago Go Getters, All In Athletics, Chicago Lockdown, Grassroots Sizzle, Dynasty, and Phenom. Great weekend, Proud of my team.
Was excited to hear
@ny2lasports
will be using a shot clock for 17u and 16u games this Spring.
Wisconsin is one of 23 states that still doesnt have a shot clock in High School Basketball. This should be step
#1
for advancing the game. Lets all work together to make it happen
Talked to a College Coach today from North Dakota. He stated he cannot imagine HS Basketball without a shot clock anymore, and when he comes to Wisconsin to recruit its just a strange situation. Shot clock will move the game forward! Hope to see it in the near future.
Got our 16th win of the season today with a 57-47 win over Marquette University HS. 16 wins is the most for any Parker team in 5 decades. Also proud of finishing a 24 game season in the year of COVID. Taken so many positive steps this year, proud of culture change!
Great win for our Varsity today, knocking off undefeated and state ranked Monroe 67-62 in 2OT. Great High School Basketball game. Both teams played great, we grinded it out at the end. Really good win for us at Monroe.
Lots of conversations already a week into the summer with coaches about the following changes we need to see for the game:
1. Shot Clock, has to happen
2. Balance sectionals, seed in January.
3. Transparency in Seeding process
4. Charge Circle
Today woulda been the start of NY2LA Swish N Dish and the 2020 Spring/Summer AAU season. Obviously there are bigger things going on in the world...But wish I was on the way to Milwaukee right now, instead of staring at the same wall.
2023 6'6" JR Lukenbill of Burlington is going to have a huge July for us. An athletic wing, with a 36 inch verticle, who can rip and attack the rim as well as shooting the 3, and mid range. Plays above the rim! Should be on coaches radar July 6-10 in Atlanta!!!
@jr_lukenbill
Congrats to my PG of the past two years Tre Miller, on getting his first scholorship offer!!!!! Tre got an offer to NAIA Valley City State University! Parker's All Time leading scorer, 1st team All Big 8. Dude can Play! Congrats
@MillerTre11
!!!
Another great WBY Camp is done for 2019. Great opportunities for athletes, really well organized and run. Thanks to
@ViterboBball
and
@WisBBYearbook
for having me work It again this year.
Great win for us today, one of the best I've had at Parker or ever...beating 11-0

ranked Beaver Dam. That and beating a ranked Oshkosh Lourdes team in Montello in 2012-13 were best team wins I've coached. Gotta keep Grinding..Monroe next on Saturday.
Won our 2nd straight tonight, in Unbelievable fashion, in 19 years Ive never seen a game end like that. We were down 7 with :49 seconds left and won it 55-54 with .6 left to Split season series with Rival Beloit Memorial.

If in the future I ever get frustrated coaching, or at anything in life Im going to think back to Spring of 2020 and embrace whatever is frustrating me.
Let me first say I think we were seeded correctly. However breaking down computer seeded brackets ..their are alot of seeds that dont make sense....Time for full transparency on the process of seeding
Got our 15th win of the season tonight as we beat Janesville Craig 69-62. Down 11 at halftime we battled back to lead by 10 in the second half, lots of resilience. Next up Marquette on Saturday.
How is a 14-7 Verona team that beat Wauwautosa West and Brookfield East and played West Salem...a

seed? The Big 8 was really good this year top to bottom....at least to everyone but the computers.
2021 G Gunnar DeCleene 6'3" from Bayport was outstanding last weekend in NY2LA Grassroots Showdown Session
#2
. Gunnar is an athletic guard who defends and rebounds well. He scored 20 in our win over Mercury Elite with 4 3's. Will be an excellent college player.

Hey
@SeanCriderBB
are we any closer to a shot clock?
How bout balanced sectionals?
How bout transparency in the seeding process?
How bout 8 D1 teams to state?
Really Proud of my guys tonight, as we battled for 36 minutes and Got our first Win of the season, My first win at Parker, and our First Big 8 win. Really Proud of all our guys!
We had an opportunity to play with a shot clock with my 17u Swing team in July in Chicago. We Loved it. Coaching with it requires lots of strategy, game play had more flow, college coaches could evaluate in a like environment. Kids really enjoyed it. Its a win win for the game
2023 Max Lucey was a huge part of my 17u teams 93-17 record over the past 2 years. Very talented combo guard, who is a guy scholorship schools need to continue to look at. Great shooter, scorer and a team first winner. Will miss him next March!
Proud of my 17u team who came up just short today in the Platinum Final at
@ny2lasports
Final Chapter. We lost to a very good Mid Pro team who hasnt lost in forever on a buzzer beater in a tied game. We are currently 43-8 and were incredible this weekend. Proud of the run!!!
Great win for our varsity tonight. Improving to 4-3 on the season with a 72-71 win over a good Sun Prairie team. Was a great High School Basketball game! Great game by
@MillerTre11
who had 31 tonight!
17u Swing Bredesen....Lots to say. After 3 years with thesr guys, I can say that Ill miss coaching these guys next year, but I know they ll be successful throughout life. Its about so much more than Basketball. These guys are great people and great players!
#swingfamforever
Now that we added 2 more games to the Schedule for 2020-21 season. I'd like to see Us now revisit adding a shot clock to the high school game in the future
2023 Max Lucey is a 6'4" Combo who can play the

. Max had an outstanding Career playing with Wisconsin Swing! A very good perimeter shooter, high IQ Player with great length. Helped his 17u Swing team to a 53-8 record. NCAA D2 Coaches need to get Max on radar !!
Enjoyed coaching basketball again the past two days with my 15u, 16u, 17u teams going 7-1 and all making championship bracket in Iowa. Obviously there are other major concerns in the world but for one weekend things have like its summer again.
Congrats to
@MillerTre11
, my PG who went over 1,000 pts today and became the all time scoring leader at Janesville Parker with 1,013 points. Tre is a great player with a bright future in college. Been pleasure to coach him
I feel really bad for all the 2021's missing out on the Spring NCAA evaluation period this year. They're missing out for reasons bigger than themselves and basketball. Still hoping they get the opportunity when the time is right to play and reach thier goals.
Proud of my 16u Swing Team Whose season Ended tonight in the Platinum Sweet 16 of GRBA in 2 OTs in Fort Wayne. Started 0-3 and Ended Season 31-12. Lots of Great memories and positives. Cant believe its over Ready for Next year.
Regardless tomorrow is going to be the end for my 17u Team (2023). They stayed with me through COVID. Faced unprecedented challenges to recruiting, and uncertainty. They will all succeed at life and without question, and I will miss them all next year, as they made me better.
17u Bredesen NY2LA defeats Wisconsin Triple Threat 57-32 to improve to 2-1 at Swish N Dish. 2024 Gavin Van Wie with 13 and 2024 Grant Manz with 12 to lead the way.

I like the changes to High School Basketball last couple years, Change to halves, Additional Games, Seeding Entire Sectionals.
Would like to see them Add A Shot Clock, Reduce number of teams in a sectional from same conference, Continue to figure out best way to seed sectionals.
Still believe the WIAA needs to add a shot clock, a charge circle, and think setting up Sectional Groups in January would add to competativness of the tournament!
Want to see a charge circle at the High School level as well. Such an easy improvement, that cleans the game up.
Eliminates defenders throwing themself on the ground, or flopping, or acting when an offensive player gets deep into the paint.
Good for the gamea
Huge thanks to
@ny2lasports
for the Grassroots Showdown Series. They've done a great job in a every changing enviornment in creating quality games, exposure and opportinities for hundreds of athletes!
Disagree with Travis. Agree with
@WisBBYearbook
. Wisconsin choosing to not be progressive with a shot clock and other things is leading to a large increase in players leaving WI over past years. We simply have to take a step forward and not be intimidated by change.
I strongly disagree with Mark on this. Players have been leaving for prep schools for a decade without shot clocks elsewhere that they ended up. NIL isn’t going to do much to stem the tide either. It’s always about perception that the grass is greener elsewhere (and “I must be
Great weekend for 2023 Max Lucey a 6'4" shooting guard from Cuba City. He shot the ball exceptionlly well in Louisville and attack the rim with great energy. Great length. He scored 20 against Team Hopson including hitting 4 3's. Mentally tough and high IQ.
@lucey_max
Marcus Hall joined my 17u team this year and was a huge piece in our success. Great Player and Teammate that helped elevate us to the next level. Really grateful he chose to join us this year was a perfect fit! Great things coming!
@MarcusHall518
Another year of AAU just about done with. I Already see teams posting that they are Addidas teams or UA teams when on Addidas Silver. Bottom line, in Wisconsin Power 5 is the 3SSB Addidas Team. Phenom is EYBL, and PGC is UAA. Everyone else is not on an actual shoe circuit.
Great win this morning over Indiana Ice Gold. Down 14 with 6 min left, we fought back and tied the game on 2 big

@JordanJohnson_0
scored 6 in OT to send us to Final 4 in Indianapolis.

. Lots of great wins, a few tough losses, but regardless proud to have coached you both and congrats on accepting your scholarship offers to NCAA D2 NMU and Minnesota-Moorehead!
Shoutout to my 16u team who was RESILIANT this weekend in Orlando. After losing a crazy game in which things went wrong in ways I have never seen...we bounced back and ended up 3-1, with 3 quality wins. Team won 41 games this year. Won a platinum NY2LA title. Proud Coach
Another opportunity gone to make basketball in Wisconsin better. We have a chance to be progressive and continue to decline it. Soon it will be 49 states with a shot clock and one without.
@SeanCriderBB
A proposal to implement the shot clock in 2026-27, with an option to utilize it in 2025-26 in non-conference by mutual agreement, was voted down by the Board of Control. Had it been approved, it would have advanced to a membership vote at the 2025 Annual Meeting. (Vote: 4-6)
NEWS: The WIAA’s 515 Member Schools will vote to allow NIL next week Wednesday.

-Currently, 31 other State Associations around the country allow it.
-If Passed, it will take effect at the End of May.
Got our 9th win of the season tonight beating Beloit Turner 65-51 at Parker tonight. We are now off till Saturday when we travel to Franklin. Gotta keep grinding and getting better every day.
Two in a row for us. Got our second win in less than 24 hrs with a 50-44 win over West Bend West. We didnt lead till the last 4 minutes, but really showed mental toughness and grit. Thursday night we will go for 3 in a row.
Computer seeding is what it is. Its in place. What I don't understand is why its not made public what criteria used have what weight. As a coach, knowing what is valued will help me plan a non-con schedule. Whats more important? Winning or Strength of Schedule?
27 states currently have a shot clock. More have added it every year. The NFHS has rules for shot clock use.
Shot clocks make the game better, more flow, cleans up late game situations, requires more coaching.
Hope to see it in Wisconsin in the near future.
Got our 8th win of the season tonight with a 57-43 win over a good 6-4 Mukwonago team that had been on a 4 game winning streak. Great progress for us this season and the past couple! Continuing to Change the Culture!
JR Lukenbill is a 6'5" Athlete, who plays above the rim, rebounds well, can guard Wings/4's, shoots 40% from 3. Was a huge part of a 53-8 17u Wisconsin Swing Team. All NCAA D2 coaches Need to be check him out ASAP!
My least favorite night of the year when basketball season ends for us. We made huge gains this year and have to celebrate those steps. Need to keep getting better.
Hardest Day of the Basketball Season as a Coach is when it ends with a loss. Lots to be proud of this season though. Lost 9 seniors from last years Sectional team. Returned 1 player with experience. Ended the season with 13 wins and a return to the Regional Finals!
Fort Wayne is one of the Best Basketball venue's in Midwest. Great Friday start to AAU. 17u is 2-0 with 21 and 19 point wins, 15u is 1-0 with an 11 pt win at GRBA Nationals. Got that 8 AM game tomorrow! Favorite timeslot.
2022 G Easton Evansted 5'11" of Darlington played great in

16 Days till my 22nd year of High School Basketball Coaching, 12th year as a Head Coach, and 5th year at Parker.
Been Waiting for Nov. 14 since AAU ended with a Ship in Vegas on August 1st. 16 more Days!
2024 Gavin Van Wie of Sun Prairie East had a great Swish N Dish Tournament. Highlighted by 19 pts and 13 boards vs. Greater Purpose. Good rebounder, who can shoot the 3 and score at the rim. Coaches check him out at April Live events!
Really Proud of the 17u team that myself and Connor Morovits coached this season. Season Ended this morning in the Elite 8 in Fort Wayne. Guys did everything we asked of them for Multiple years, and Ill Miss Coaching then next year.
Got 2 wins today in Indiana, off till tomorrow 9:05 when we play Indiana Ice Gold. We just beat Grand Park Premier Gold 78-57. One thing I learned from the spring that Im trying to make sure my guys grasp is valuing every chance to step on court, because nothing is a given.
2023 Combo Guard Max Lucey 6'4" of Cuba City, played for my 17u Swing team in the spring/summer of 2022. I'd encourage scholorship schools to check him out! Long, athletic combo guard, who shoots the 3 at 41%, handles the ball, rebounds well. DM me for additional info!
