Back on ward 33 at the Freeman. 6days of chemo then radiotherapy to prep for my stem cell transplant My daughter is the true heroine in this & given me the best Christmas present i could wish for by donating her stem cells. Aimée is a truly remarkable person, I love her to bits😍

When I was in hospital my wife planted some tulips in the small front garden we have. Something for me to look at when I came out to recover at home, she said. She has done a cracking job. 😍They’re giving us a wonderful display.

December 10th I had my stem cell transplant using my daughter Aimées cells, on ward 33 @ Freeman. Today at clinic the Consultant told us my blood count is the best they’ve been, best of all I am 100% donor. Aimées cells have taken over. I am over the moon I could cry with Joy😊

Results from my bone marrow biopsy show no MRD, minimal residual disease. Basically no leukaemia cells, so I’m in remission. I cannot say how much the word remission means to us. A massive thank you to everyone involved in my care & especially to my daughter Aimée, my donor 😍😍.

I’m now back at home after a 4 1/2 week stay in hospital. I got home about 4 ish & promptly fell asleep. I cannot thank the nurses and medical team on ward 33 enough. The care they’ve given me has been excellent. I’ve had some really rough days but they have got me through it 😍

A chap at the allotment had some wood chips delivered. I said I was going to order some for the paths on the extra plot bit. I’m at the plot this morning & over the weekend Peter has covered the paths for me. He knows my AML has come back & I tire easily. I Almost shed a tear.

I had my transplant on the 10th December, I was really unwell after more chemo. I got an infection too. I’m now feeling better as each day goes by. I cannot thank the nurses &medical staff on ward 33 enough. Merry Christmas folks isolation hasn’t affected me much, honestly 😉🤗🎅

@Telegraph Unfit / first time running Folk don’t just get some new kit then go bombing round the block like a hamster in a wheel. They start with a walk, then a power walk, then walk & jog, then jog, then slow run etc. It’s good to encourage exercise in any way you can. 👍

I love being down at my allotment. It’s often hard work & knackers me out at times. However one thing I’m not going to do is let Acute myeloid leukaemia, AML, spoil it for me. Not Just yet anyway.😊 It can be so frustrating at times, but it’s surprising what positivity can bring.

Just a quick update, I’ve had my first cycle of chemo, I’m waiting for my blood counts to recover, which may take a while. Felt a bit grotty at times but had some good craic with the other patients, nurses & Docs. The staff on ward 33 are wonderful, nothing is a problem 😍👍

Well I got home late on Friday evening, 16 days after my transplant, which I’m amazed at. I’ve spent most of the weekend asleep mind☺️. I was at clinic yesterday & my blood counts are really good. I’ll take every positive going at the mo. There’s still a long way to yet. 😊

1/2 thread Thurs I was at clinic for a checkup. BMB results show my chimerism is 94% in blood 84% in bone marrow. Also MRD, minimal residual disease, is zero, which means they can’t find any leukaemia cells. I could’ve cried when She told me. I’ve been here b4 so my euphoria is

I laid a flagstone in the greenhouse today I only do 1 a day because the flags r heavy & I’m quiteweak at the mo. mentally it’s lifted my spirit, physically I’m knackered. Hopefully it’ll all be completed soon. I can then start sowing. Small steps but getting there #fubloodcancer

Exactly 12 months ago today I came out of hospital. I couldn’t walk to the exit, I had to be pushed in a wheelchair. Time has flown by & I’m so lucky. It’s a tough journey. Thank you to everyone involved in my treatment you all have a special place in my heart ❤️ ❤️

Just had a call from my CNS, clinical nurse specialist, from the pre transplant team to tell me my Australian has passed all his medical tests & is clear to donate his cells. We are over the moon with that, it was a bit of a worry at the back of my mind. Onwards & upwards 😊

Clinic this morning, blood counts r good. Also they couldn’t find any leukaemia cells under the microscope, however they need to wait for the full lab report results. It’s good news, cos I can go onto the next stage, conditioning chemo on the 24th Aug & transplant on the 30th 😊

Finally got to see my Mum & twin brother. It’s only been 18months, due to covid, my AML diagnoses then stem cell transplant. I’m not bothered what anyone says about hugging, I gave them both a great big long hug. It was absolutely fantastic to see them & Simon. Love them😍😍🤗

Allotment show was on Sunday, so Helene put entries in. It’s only a really small fun show. However she managed to get 1st,2nd & 3rd in the onions. 1st & 2nd in the flowers, 2nd in the tomatoes & 2nd & 3rd in the longest runner bean. Really lifted my spirit as I’ve been v unwell.

1/9 Exactly 12 months ago today I received a stem cell transplant, Aimée, my daughter, was my donor.😍 The 6 days prior to my transplant I had 5 days of chemotherapy & a dose of total body irradiation. This was to kill off my cells & hopefully allow Aimées cells to take over.

Well a lovely surprise visit this morn. The hospital Chaplain popped in with the Hospital companion dogs. The spaniel is called Poppy. It’s really made my morning truly lifted my spirits. A fantastic thing to do. I absolutely loved it. 😍 Thank you @245bored good to meet you👍

Well today my hair started to come out in large clumps. So instead of looking like an old toilet brush I asked for my hair to be shaved off. @kathrynmcrae5 did it for me but we had a laugh getting it done, which is what I wanted. I almost plumbed for the small front tuft look tho

1) At clinic today for BMB & blood check up. Main chat was the blood clot in my thigh. However it ended with some great news, blood counts are the best they’ve been for years. The ink note was the best news, BMB results show chimerism 100% & they can’t find any leukaemia cells.

When I have bloods done at the hospital they use an elastic tourniquet. These are single use. So each time they take bloods I ask for the tourniquet. I then use them as plant ties. Here’s one tying in one of my sunflowers. #wastenotwantnot #sunflowerchallenge2022

Last few days have been quite tough, been quite unwell due to infection after infection. So yesterday they took out my Hickman line cos that’s where the bugs were coming from. It was weird watching him take it out but not feeling anything. Everything now has to go via a cannula

Cancer clinic this morning. Blood counts are good, got to stay on the ciclosporin anti rejection drugs until all the GVHD has cleared up. Stopped off at the adapt cafe for some ‘dirty’ food, which must be working because I’ve put on 2.5 kgs. I was 68kgs now I’m 74.5kgs.😊❤️

2/2 dampened a little. I’m so lucky, some on the same journey sadly haven’t been so lucky. My heart goes out to all their loved ones. My journey began in 2015 with MDS, in 2020 it changed to AML. Aimées cells saved my life & my Haem team have been wonderful. Enjoy every moment😍

Travelled down to see my Mum & brother in the Potteries today. Helene drove while I slept☺️. Wonderful to see them❤️, I haven’t been able to come down for over 10months due to treatment etc. Also wearing my fav bobhat, every time I’ve worn it we’ve won 😉😂 cracking win Stoke👍

My hair has gone really curly. I’m sure it didn’t go this curly after my first stem cell transplant🤔 it looks like an unruly old bob hat at times☺️ I’m almost 5 months post transplant, things are going ok so far. Still a long way to go mind. #AML . Chemo curl. Have fun folks💙

Managed get some free flagstones from a mate, bit mixed size wise. Decided I’d use em to tidy & pave the messy bit behind the greenhouse. Just got to brush in some dry mix. Always takes me longer than normal due to being unwell but I’ll be buggered if it’ll stop me Doing owt😉☺️

Today it’s 3 years since I had my first stem cell transplant. My daughter was my donor, her cells gave me another 2 1/2 years of life before the AML came back & I relapsed. It was such a wonderful thing for her to do ❤️ The past 3 years have been a rollercoaster of emotions. ❤️

A few weeks ago, we had a bit of a set back after a BMB. Yesterday I started the first cycle of chemo. Next week a top up of Aimées cells. I’ve said it’s a long journey, hopefully the journey will be smoother again soon. Let the games begin☺️ Back again this afternoon for more😊

First clinic of 2024, all good. Blood counts are normal, ciclosporin down to 80. I’ve put just over a kilo on as well. Back in two weeks which is good news. Called up to Ward 33 to see all the staff there, then went to Maggies for a cuppa & a cheese scone Take care folks ❤️

Our tree has been up for just over a week, it’s early but thought we’d do it then cos I’ll be in hospital over Christmas. My wife made the stars, eat your heart out Kirsty 😉

Blood counts ok, wbc has doubled since last week which might mean the AML is getting more active. The best news was another 2 donor matches have been found. One from Australia & one from America. Both have only recently come onto the register. I’m over the moon with that news😊

June 96, I ran the potteries marathon to raise money for Marrow Transplant 2000, now @BrightRedOrg My daughter @TheMissAimee helped &encouraged me over the last part of the marathon Today is my transplant day & her cells will b helping me thru this marathon journey I’ve been on😍

Just had a message to say I’ve got covid antibodies from having the covid jabs. I’m really pleased & relieved about this. It was a big worry for me that I wouldn’t have any due to having blood cancer. I’m over the moon 😊☺️

Todays winning lottery numbers are Hb 101 Platelets 78 Neuts 0.53 Wbc is 1.57 And the winner is the chap in bay 1 bed 4 and the prize is :- I can go home tomorrow. Now where did I put that bunting🤔 (Unless there’s a last minute hiccup☺️)

BMT clinic this morn for bloods & BMB results. Bloods are good, MRD is negative which means they can’t find any leukaemia cells. No chimerism result yet, that should be thru soon. It’s a big relief because this time last year the leukaemia came back. Great to see @carlyleighj 🤗

Helene drove down to Tyne Green this afternoon. Had a sit on a bench watching the River Tyne flow past & the ducks. Didn’t see any Salmon jumping, afraid I couldn’t walk the short distance down to the weir to check. It was great to get some fresh air. 😊

Bone marrow biopsy on Ward 33 this morning. Well into double figures now I think. I’ve never had a painful one more uncomfortable than anything else. If you are having one for the first time they aren’t as bad as they seem. Also you can get a pre med to relax you if needed 😊👍

1/2 Over the last month my blood counts had been falling so I had a bone marrow biopsy a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the results confirmed that the acute myeloid leukaemia has come back. It’s not what we expected nor wanted. I am going to need more intensive chemotherapy &

Since my myelodysplasia, blood cancer diagnosis I’ve used hand sanitiser, because my neutrophils & white blood cells are low & I’m therefore prone to infection. However trying to get any from the shops has been nigh on impossible. Please stop panic buying box fulls. 🤷‍♂️☺️
