British political parties as Doctor Who monsters.... ๐งต
Tories = Daleks
Shouty, pimpled Nazi wannabes who will exterminate anything. Have mad plans that obvs won't work - sending refugees to Rwanda / removing the earth's core to pilot it around the cosmos, etc.
Cannot believe the spoof Timmy Mallett article I wrote (really lamenting that laminated typo!) has been reposted over 200 times - if only something I'd written under my own name could be this popular!
Youโve got to worry about the state of your countryโs press when a woman whoโs trying to make sure people can afford to eat is portrayed as the villain.
Solidarity with the awesome
@BootstrapCook
.
Iโve invented a cocktail called a Liz Truss:
1. Take a pint glass
2. Fill half with gin
3. Fill half with vodka
4. Add a dash of Tabasco sauce
5. Take one sip
6. Smash glass against wall & scream
Please enjoy responsibly.
I really hope Timmy doesnโt hate me - was meant to be a loving spoof of someone I loved watching as a kid! I feel heโd be just as wacky & self-deprecating if heโd actually written this. Donโt hate me

Morning! Our new series started yesterday in podcast form, and you can hear the shorter radio edit of Catherine the Great on Radio 4 this morning at 10am

Dear
@thetimes
- I think itโs great that youโre focussing on white voices in reaction to the news that racism in books still gets published. If I was concerned about a rise in the no. of deaths by bow & arrow, first person Iโd hand the mic to is an archer.

A quick thing on casting & people having the worst takes. There were a lot of trolls complaining about the casting of 2019's David Copperfield, which is odd because it's one of the most immaculately cast films I've seen in years. It really plays on being...well...a play. ๐งต
95% of the people complaining about the casting of this young actor have never watched a play before in their lives, let alone Romeo and Juliet, because what on earth are these takes.
Thanks to all my new followers - so glad you enjoyed my spoof Timmy Mallett article! Usually I tweet a mix of film & book stuff pls a good slice of lefty politics. Feel free to unfollow if youโre not a fan of ceasefires.

God, thatโs really awful, Pragya. Iโm sorry to hear this. With Young V&A also being a bit section 28y with their bookshop it doesnโt bode well for the V&A

Monisha, Chimene & Sunny are the 1s youโre censoring. Why are you shutting down vital & long overdue debates when theyโve barely had a chance to gain traction? Especially in the wake of horrific racial abuse all 3 received, which could have been the focus of your article.
If youโve just tuned in to the UK: the understudyโs understudyโs understudy is now in charge - after killing the Queen, sheโs decided the most effective way to feed the poor is to give the rich more money. The insurrection will be led by a coalition of wildlife charities.
Make no mistake - we are also incredibly angry. We stand with

The bullying of

Just broke down weeping in my class.
I know women of colour do not matter in the UK. And indeed our suffering brings joy to many.
So to everyone who has played a part in this public bullying campaign: Well done.
If you want to know why Iโm dismissive of the phrase โcancel cultureโ - hereโs a list of almost 150 articles within in the last year or so about the same โcancelledโ author, many scapegoating 3 women of colour who had called her book out for racism/ableism. Itโs simply awful.
This is what being a scapegoat actually looks like: A list of the articles in this last year against 3 women of colour for pushing back against racist language and imagery.

Greenwich Park is the best park in London. In fact, I generally feel that SE is my favourite part of London. Itโs always easy to say when youโve lived there but I love it!
โSo is this really what we're going to do now? Just sit back and watch a genocide happen on the telly? Then decades from now, when it's in the history books, all look round at each other and ask, 'how did that happen?'โ

I should probably come clean at this point & say that shortly after the Timmy Mallett tweet went viral I was approached by a publisher to write a whole book of them. It fell through but I had, for the first time, been offered a โsmallโ advance. It was bigger than Liz Trussโs.
@MarkBowsherFilm
@Jonathon_Carley
Did you see she got a ยฃ1500 advance for her book? What makes this very funny is Nadine Dorries got a six figure advance for a three book deal ten years ago.
