Facts are not the enemy. Facts are not aggression. Facts are not oppression. Facts are not genocide. They are, however, the building- blocks of democracy and peace.
Preparing to sit an English test, needed for my UK citizenship application. I asked if the fact that one of my novels was extracted for English GCSE exams may count as evidence of my ability to speak and understand English, but no.

Officers from

Yesterday, Alison Moyet posted this thoughtful, compassionate tweet. An avalanche of abuse followed and she has now closed her account. There are people on here so blinded by hate they seem to have completely lost their minds.
I've not entered into the trans rights debate, but I have "liked" some tweets by JK Rowling, Helen Joyce etc. and that, it seems, is enough for me to have been blocked by groups and people I've never heard of, many of them in my industry.

To those who call Hamas heroes, resistance, to those who defend them or make excuses for them, know that you are on the side of evil.

I’m looking forward to a massive display of outrage from the American Right/pro-lifers/Evangelical Christians over this sad state of affairs that is caused by a lack, in their country, of an
#NHS
type free universal healthcare.
I find this frightening. I like to hear different points of view, hear of people's experiences, trans and not trans, but it seems there is no room for even a hint of divergence from the orthodoxy. Is this healthy?
It pains me, both as a reader and as a writer, to face up to the fact that I don't remember very much at all about most books I have read. That includes wonderful books that I loved and admired. I will now go and boil my useless head.
I know

I think I speak for pretty much every author on here when I say that our book bloggers really are the good angels of the publishing world. Unpaid, probably overworked, they bring our creations to your attention for the sheer love of books.
Though opinions may vary when it comes to the background, his Majesty's face is done exquisitely, at least I think so and I'm usually right. About everything.
It's got to a point where every statement by Israel, however well evidenced, is dismissed as a lie, while everything claimed by Hamas, however outlandish, is accepted unquestionably. This is not as helpful to the Palestinian cause as some might think.
Today has seen a campaign to bully and discredit a group of authors, me included, because of a motion (7) to

There are some twenty million women and girls in Afghanistan and under the vile Taliban their lives have been reduced to mere existence, worse, a living death. So where are the protests, the marches?
Women in Afghanistan are being obliterated—no voice, no face, no existence. The Taliban’s latest decrees are nothing short of barbaric: women banned from singing, reciting poetry, or even speaking aloud in public. Their faces and bodies must hidden from the world.

Just left the Trafalgar Square vigil for the hostages kidnapped by Hamas. Harrowing testimony from British Jews whose family members are amongst those held and from those whose family members were slaughtered by the terrorist. Somber, peaceful, dignified.

It's really ugly. I made the mistake of reading the Mail online comments on a piece about her and it was hideous. Racism writ loud and clear. Thought we were better than that.
Back on my Swedish island. It wasn't easy getting here, we had to drive because of Dog, and we hit the rainstorms in Germany as we went, but we made it. Now I can see my father for first time in 2 years. 😊

Oh my God, I'm so sorry. These poor, poor people and as for Yarden Bibas, no, can't even go there. And still people don't see. Everything Hamas has done from 7/10 onwards is calculated to provoke the response we're seeing.
"Nobody eats shortbread. Least of all novelty shortbread in a tin with a picture on it," says Giles Coren in his column today. Well, the Cobbolds beg to differ.
Children at Jewish schools in London are told not to wear their school uniform for their own safety. Men in cars flying Palestinian flags drive through Jewish neighbourhoods shouting threats of rape and other violence. Is this the country we want?
Where has the expression "fiction novel" sprung from? I see it used more and more often and it seems like a tautology to me because surely the word fiction is inherent in the word novel? Then again I'm Swedish so what do I know.
@hanneramberg
It's really awful. And so disappointing. Norway let their Jews down horribly during the Holocaust and it would seem, learned nothing from that.
@Joannechocolat
I signed motion 7. I am not a bigot, racist or transphobe, nor did I attack you. The constant linking of two separate motions and the endless accusations levelled at the signatories, individuals not a cabal, are deeply upsetting and unfair.
Hamas were in a hurry, they killed quickly. When they had time, they tortured, raped, and burned their victims." And this is what people have celebrated on the streets of Britain.
The hideous sight of people in the UK and elsewhere celebrating the slaughter, torture and hostage taking of innocent men, women and children by Hamas illustrates perfectly why the Jewish people must have a homeland. What's happening to this country?

I was so hoping to be able to see my 91 year old father in Sweden this summer, I’ve not seen him since summer 2019, also brother and his family. Doesn’t look like it’s going to happen now. Not everyone who’d planned to go abroad were doing so “just” for a holiday.
So, the conclusion I draw after a somewhat upsetting time on this platform, is that there are far more lovely, kind, thoughtful people on here than there are bullies. To all those lovely people, Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who's sent such lovely messages of love and sympathy on the death of Gilbert. Thank you for understanding and respecting the depth of our love for our little person and that there is no such thing as "just a dog." Xx
So sad for the Queen. She’s not only lost her husband, but the one person in the world with whom she could be entirely herself, and also, the last of her generation, the last person who knew and understood where she came from, and the times that shaped her.

Yesterday masked demonstrators on a crowded tube train chant for "Intifada." 3 weeks ago I was in a packed carriage heading to the vigil for the hostages. No chants, just sadness. And people making sure elderly had a seat.

About 90% of Gaza's water comes from groundwater wells. Remaining 10% comes from desalination plants and from Israel's national water company, yet Israel is blamed entirely for the catastrophic water shortage. Not helpful.

Who would have thought that continuing to allow travel from India and Pakistan once the Indian variant was rampaging over there, could possibly cause problems over here. Who?
My darling little dog, Harvey, was put to sleep today. He was an old doggie but I had no inkling, when I got up this morning, that he would be gone by the end of the day. It’s extraordinary how much one can love a little person like that.

Wouldn't the best solution be for the West Bank to, once again, become part of Jordan and Gaza of Egypt? Israel surely would be delighted. Could it be that neither Jordan nor Egypt want these troublesome territories back?

That's one hell of a serious accusation. Would you please name the authors who you say have carried out a campaign against women writers of colour? Or are you saying everyone who proposed either or both motions have been involved in such campaigns?

Makes no sense. If they were referring to women and trans men it would make some sense but however supportive you are of trans rights, pretending that people who were born male but ID as women, can get pregnant and give birth is just silly.

Indeed, but ask any very elderly person, even someone in, what passes for good health, about the effort it takes to just get out of bed in the morning ... The Queen did, and worked, pretty much every day of her life.

The stabbing to death of lovely, wholly innocent Elianne Andam, was not about gangs, but about male entitlement, a young man driven to uncontrollable rage because a girl told him No. This rage seems to be everywhere fuelled by people like Andrew Tate.
