@kushalbhagia Never heard CEOs admit they are lagging competition on analyst calls :) Sugar is almost half of Lakmé now. Lakme is 70 yrs old. Sugar has barely begun and at present growth shd be much bigger this decade itself. incumbents track market share like hawks, this aint going unnoticed!

Given startup/sme employment generation capacity and ability to attract foreign capital and mobilise domestic savings (pe/vc funding > ipo + qip this year), the very least the FM needs to offer is a taxation regime at par with listed mkts. A serious plank for economic revival.

If there are 2 asks from the startup & angel ecosystem from the budget, these would be: 1. ESOPs should be taxed at the point of liquidity, not exercise 2. Sale of unlisted equities should be taxed at the same rates as listed equities Will be gamechangers. @nsitharaman

Totally agree with @dishahdadpuri on this. Good CPG cos build strong entry barriers - brand, distribution, etc that allows for sustained growth over time. Consumer investors are the boring cousins of venture. Almost like marathon runners, we love to run the longer race!

6/ VCs do have that sort of time! The VCs who understand the space, have a strategy that builds in a longer duration to build & exit. I have been an investor in Sula Wines for 16 yrs, Bakers Circle 15 yrs, Veeba 8 yrs, Epigamia 5 yrs & have many more examples.

Another consumer brand going in for IPO. Cremica has net sales of 680cr in fy 20. The Indian capital market loves branded cpg plays, even at a small ~500cr scale. This can be achieved much more time & capital efficiently now than 5 yrs ago. Goldman was the early investor here.

The only channel strategy which has profit and sustained scale still is an omnichannel one. In most categories, ignore offline retail at your own peril. Time it appropriately, but packaging, SKU form, pricing and org structure need to be planned early on.

Will be a huge reform towards mobilizing capital to startups in India. Would bring Indian startups at parity with listed cos and also with international startups. In most progressive economies, startup Investing is actually incentivised with tax rebates and matching grants.

@virsanghvi Ah! Grew up being best friends with a Jaggi family boy. His bday party had usual mayhem dissolving quickly into a disciplined orderly seating of young boys. Dollops of butter chicken and dal makhani would be served from brass pails with hot naans. How we would wait for his bday!
