Some of you may have known but after a very short battle with cancer my father sadly passed away today. RIP Dad π’

Each September I complete a survey, recording the prices of a distillery's 18yo - a standard bottle which you might buy for a special occasion like a birthday.
This year's results are in - let's see how things have changed.
From the bottom of my heart I'd like to thank all of you who liked, replied and DM'ed me last week following the passing of my Dad.
A really tough time made a little easier by the love of my twitter friends. π Thank you.
Eldest son smashed it out of the park with his 'A' level results, confirming his place at

1st Father's Day without him... π’
Of course there are many others who have been here before me but it doesn't make it any easier.
I'll be raising a glass of
@TheGlenmorangie
tonight - Love you Dad..
My blog has been going for 5 years now and this is the 500th blog post!
In that time I've had over 114,000 visitors and reviewed over 1,300 whiskies!
Let's review 2021!
As you may possibly have heard I have a little thing for Glen Scotia & another little thing for Tawny Port finished whisky - put them together YUMMY!
So imagine my reaction when I heard that the the CMF 2020 release would be a Tawny Port finished whisky!
This Autumn's
@GlenScotiaMalts
seasonal release is a 12yo at 54.7%
11 years in ex-bourbon and 1 year in a combination of heavily charred and Oloroso casks.
Can't wait!
Following up on last week's 18yo price survey, here's my results for this year on a set of 'standard' distillery core range bottlings - readily available bottles and the one you'd probably go for if trying a distillery for the first time.
Many thanks to
@RobbiesDrams
for the quick delivery of my
@GlenScotiaMalts
Campbeltown Malts Festival 2020 Peated Tawny Port.
Look at the amazing colour!
Next stop
@TheDunphail
where they put us to work turning barley, filling washbacks and polishing copper... π
Huge thanks to Mike for a brilliant tour and tasting!
Huge thanks to Martin at the
@Tomatin1897
Distillery Visitors Centre for a really great set of drams and help with labelling our Bottle Yours Owns as we'd never have got them on straight!
Distilleries often release whisky in batches, the same name but subtly different recipes, ABVs, maturation types / etc.
@Kilkerran2004
release an 8yo Cask Strength bottling each year, this year they released two bottlings: Sherry and Port Cask matured.
Following advice from
@LLBlender
via
@HonestToAMalt
Podcast that bottles with less than 1/3 left should be finished. Sorry to see the end of this Oloroso finished single cask but rules are rules π
Very, very early but next year's
@GlenScotiaMalts
Campbeltown Malts Festival Release labels have surfaced - 9yo unpeated Fino Sherry finish at 56.2% ABV
Distilleries often release whisky in batches, the same name but subtly different recipes, ABVs, maturation types / periods etc. I'm going to review a number of different Batches in my Side-by-side format to see if I can detect any differences.
Beautifully wrapped and packed by Kirsty, my first bottle of
@GlenScotiaMalts
Campbeltown Malt Festival 2020 had arrived!
Seems a really pity to unwrap it π€
Really dislike these black bottles where you can't see how much is left but...
This is a fantastic dram, there's definitely less than 33% left so as instructed by Michael Henrrrrieee this must be finished.
So glad I bought a few of these!
