I've been absent since 20th September. My beloved husband Paul, whom I met in February 1972, passed away suddenly. I fell in love with his voice before I saw him, left a fiancé, got thrown out of home, married Paul in 1976. He never let me down, he was my rock. I was so lucky.

A Sudanese family are moving into our village shortly and as they only speak English, I've been asked to help out and give them French lessons. They've been living in a camp in Egypt for a number of years. They've got absolutely nothing. I'm looking forward to helping them out.

45 years ago I walked down the aisle without my father's hand on my arm. Both parents disapproved. Every time I hit a bump I was determined to prove them wrong. They did me a favour. I have had a loving, caring partner and a wonderful adventure of a life. I am truly blessed.

How mask wearing works here in France. Yesterday,I walked to the post office. Only 1 person allowed in at a time. I had forgotten my mask. I made a makeshift one with my cardigan. Was totally covered. Both employees said no. Not a mask. Had to go back home. Totally get it.

Since 13/03/2020 neither I nor OH have had a cold, sore throat, cough, earache. Every year, it was one after another + the consequent tiredness associated with minor ailments. It has GOT to be mask wearing that has kept us free for 13 months. I'm not stopping wearing mine.

#SudaneseFamilyintheGers I got a call from school yesterday, 5yr old ill. Went to get her, freezing cold but raging temperature, 1/2 hour later dad called, she was worse, I called the emergency service, over lunchtime doctor's closed. In hospital now, waiting for info.

In the 80s, I was so revolted by Thatcher, I sold up and moved to France with a 3 year old and a husband who had no French. Brexit removed that FOM. Now there is a government which makes Thatcher seem generous and caring.

The final hurdle in our French citizenship quest. We are going to get our fingerprints done to add to the dossier for a French ID card and passport. We've been immigrants for 35 years. Now proud that the country we love and we adopted has finally adopted us. A beautiful feeling.

I heard today about a young couple in their 30s in London who have had the vaccine already. No health issues either of them. According to the girl's mother, it was a case of "who they knew." I find that totally scandalous.

Alarm set for 6am, shutters closed at 10am till 9pm. Temperature tomorrow in SW France forecast to rise to 39°.Will be 25°at 10am. Will do siesta 2 till 4pm. It's impossible to go out. Washing fades if you hang it out. Been for a walk from 9pm till 10.30pm.

18 years ago I was in Oklahoma. Chirac had vetoed the Iraq war. There were flags in every garden. At church, the priest asked visitors where they were from. When I said France, a murmur of disapproval rippled through the church. Flags are a sign of jingoism, of false unity.
