It is also not a good look to have an official image of what a princess is supposed to look like or expected to be when fans identify with this title. The heroine was always a normal girl like any other, these are beautiful sparkling idols that not everyone can see themselves in.

Not only that, but with Uta no Princess-sama having been introduced on April Fools, it gave fans this feeling that the joke was on them. That they had always believed themselves to be "princesses" but these were the real, official princesses and they were just fooling themselves.

Fans felt simultaneously that this other series was being pushed on them while they were made to spend more money on Utapri to get what they actually wanted. Broccoli clearly wants that Utapri money, but they do not want to properly reinvest it into the series.
