I’ve represented Australia in jobs with fancy titles but my most important job title is Dad.
When Andrew Bolt went after my daughter, who wants a safe climate future, I felt deeply disrespected. I don’t tolerate abuse. So said goodbye and walked off set.

As Australia’s first Aboriginal Ambassador posted to Africa, I proudly flew the Aboriginal and Australian flags on my official vehicle. The Voice is about a grown-up and compassionate Australia. A nation honest with itself and united as it walks towards the future.

Australia needs a lot more people like this man in our Parliament. Thank you Senator

My body called it quits but I haven’t when it comes to calling on
@AlboMP
to be the Prime Minister we need for a safe future for our kids and country. Thanks Australia for all your support and compassion. I’m at Canberra Hospital. Read my update here.👇🏽
Thx
@ALeighMP
for being the first
@AustralianLabor
MP to come & sit with me. I’ve always respected you as a good man. Andrew asked me to give up. I said I would when PM
@AlboMP
agrees that we should stop kidding ourselves we’re doing enough for a safe future.
#ClimateHungerStrike
It’s Day 6 of my
#ClimateHungerStrike
with only 23 Days to
#COP28
. I’ve lost 4.5kg. At this rate I’ll have lost 25kg by then. So I’ve brought my swag in and bunkered down. I’m doing this for our kids and country. Please sign & share my petition.👇🏽
Annette from Queanbeyan, who I’ve never met before, brought me this beautiful bunch of roses from her garden to say thank you for doing what’s right for Australia. ♥️♥️♥️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
She’s already signed my petition. You can too.👇🏽
#ClimateHungerStrike
Angry Andrew Bolt continues to hurl personal attacks at me.
I pitty him and others who lack the mental courage to face the truth about the climate crisis.
Instead they lash out with personal attacks in an attempt to soothe themselves.
#ClimateHungerStrike
It’s Day 4 of my
#ClimateHungerStrike
and I’m losing weight faster than I hoped. I won’t stop until the

I woke up at 3am this morning and couldn’t sleep. So I wrote this letter to
@AlboMP
.
I respect Albo for his courage with the Voice. All I’m asking is for the same courage on climate.
If we don’t stop climate change, none of us will have a voice.
#ClimateHungerStrike
PM
@AlboMP
kept his word and showed courage and when he took the Voice to a referendum knowing it would likely fail. Australia needs him to show the same bravery and courage on climate change. Otherwise none of us will have a voice. Especially our kids.
#ClimateHungerStrike
It’s the beginning of Day 5 of my
#ClimateHungerStrike
. The Senators come back today. I hope some might come out to show support or explain why the government isn’t doing enough. I’m doing this for my kids and country. I won’t give up. Sign my petition.👇🏽
I’ve cycled over 1500 km across South Australia and haven’t seen a single windfarm on so-called ‘prime agricultural land’.
That’s just another lie spread by the fossil fuel industry and mischievous politicians to keep their pockets full and stay in power.
#eBike4Australia
Australia is about to have a rich man from the other side of the planet with a silly hat and golden throne crowned as our King! None of our kids can be elected as our Head of State. Sign the

My steam was running out this morning, until I read today’s Senate agenda. Senator
@larissawaters
will put
@AlboMP
&
@PeterDutton_MP
to the test with my 5 demands. Will they back big fossil fuel companies? Or will they back us, our children and our future?
#ClimateHungerStrike
I’ve just ridden my eBike 4750 km across Australia to promote renewable energy.
The most important thing I did was have conversations with everyday Australians.
They all want the same thing. An end to political mischief and real climate action.
#eBike4Australia
My favourite
#ClimateHungerStrike
visitor today was my last. My cherished sister Alison drove down from Newcastle to be with me here at Parliament House for the next two days. She’ll help me save energy as my official spokes-sister. Love you Alison. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

In the artists words, the British royals are so “out of place, wandering in the sandy creeks, among the ghost gums”.
Australia ranks fifth after Brazil, India, Indonesia and Tanzania for deforestation! On average, we destroy over 400,000 hectares of native forests each year. Surely we can protect what’s left.
I walked in this remnant Red Gum coastal forest on Darkinjung Country NSW today.
David Shoebridge just came and told me the whole
@Greens
party room supports my demands. He asked me to stop my
#ClimateHungerStrike
& leave it to the elected representatives. I said the Independents and Greens were doing the right thing but
@AlboMP
and
@PeterDutton_MP
weren’t.
Thank you
@spenderallegra
for coming to see me. I don’t want to be on a

Amidst all the off-shore wind farm hysteria of
@Barnaby_Joyce
and
@PeterDutton_MP
, it’s worth considering the facts. There are currently no offshore wind farms operating in Australian waters. Meanwhile,
@GeoscienceAus
data shows we have over 8,000 offshore oil and gas wells. 1/2
Surging renewables in France are pushing electricity prices down and forcing expensive nuclear power plants out.
Meanwhile Peter Dutton wants to put the breaks on renewables and start from scratch on nuclear. Yeah right!
Dr
@SophieScamps
came down & sat with me for at least half an hour today. I thanked Sophie for everything the independents are doing. She asked me to “stop & help rebuild Australia’s democracy”. But she also listened & acknowledged that I am in charge of my

There are three men in the world for whom I have unconditional admiration. His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Bob Brown. Today this message from Bob Brown came into my inbox. It means to much to me Bob. Gee I wish you were still in the Australian Parliament. 🙏🏽♥️💛🖤
My 83 yo mum sends me messages of love & support every day. This is yesterday’s.
“Dear Greg, You are doing what the rest of us can just think about. VERY VERY PROUD OF YOU. IT JUST STUNS MY BRAIN that you can keep it going like this.
LOVE MUM 😍😍😍😍😍”
#ClimateHungerStrike
So glad Canberrans elected this fella to the Senate in 2022.
We need more people like
@DavidPocock
in Parliament House.
Bring on the next election.
I thought today was going to be one of rest and saving energy. That my desert swag isn’t cutting the mustard in Canberra rain. Hannah and Bram found me sodden and have gone home to get me a replacement kit. My son Noah is bringing me in a change of clothes.

It’s Day Eleven. This is now Australia’s longest

by a single person. Some supporters are now asking me to stop. I value my life but I can’t waste the effort I’ve put in so far. I will only stop when the
@AlboMP
government commits to real climate action.
The roads I experienced today around Hay and Balranald in the electorate of Farrer held by Deputy Liberal leader

Day 15. My body is starting to feel the impacts. But I’m doing my best to stick it out until
@AlboMP
and the rest of his mob take responsibility, show real leadership and get serious about a safe future for our kids and our country. 👇🏽
Allan from Puckapunyal just told me he got pulled up on the Hume Highway for speeding and the copper said he’d let him off if he came up to find me and say “good on ya mate, you’re doing the right ring”. Allan added “good luck Gregory because the government’s is doing jack shit”.
Ending deforestation and land-clearing is one of the most important things Australia and the world can do to turn around the
#ClimateEmergency
. But why would we want to destroy something as precious as this anyway! Endangered yellow/box grassy woodland in Canberra.
#ClimateAction
You won’t believe what’s happening this week in Parliament House. I’m on Day 7 of my
#ClimateHungerStrike
and inside Parliament House the
@AlboMP
Government is trying to make a new law for Australia to become a dumping ground for other countries’ CO2 emissions! Fossil-foolery!
PM
@AlboMP
is talking security in the Pacific while expanding fossil fuels. That’s like talking prevention at a lung cancer convention while expanding tobacco. Australia’s the world’s 3rd largest fossil fuel exporter. Pacific security means ending fossil fuel subsidies & exports.
Farmers in the bush are buying EVs which pay for themselves in three years in diesel savings alone compared to
@ToyotaMotorCorp
Landcruisers!
What’s good for the climate is good for the wallet.
The day is ending & Parliament House’s lawns are emptying out. I’m ready for
@AlboMP
@PeterDutton_MP
and all the pollies tomorrow. My challenge to each of them is to stop arguing. Stop playing politics. Come together. Start doing what’s right for Australia.
#ClimateHungerStrike
I’ve been released from Canberra Hospital and have one small task to do back at Parliament House before I go home, get into bed, and take a long deep rest.
But don’t hold your breath
@AlboMP

It’s been huge today on my

@AlboMP
and the rest of you mob in there, I’m waiting for you. 😄👊🏽
Australia’s annual $12 billion fossil fuel subsidies could fund 140,000 additional nurses or 23 new world-class hospitals each year.
But instead of improving our health, they’re harming our wellbeing and pushing the world closer to climate collapse.👇🏽
Canberra didn’t get sucked in by misinformation and social media algorithms on the Voice. We chose to build a future here on Ngunnawal country that acknowledges our shared history and embraces unity. Thanks Canberra for voting “Yes”.👇🏽
Thanks Andrew from
@BirdlifeOz
for calling in on me today. Australia’s wildlife is part of what defines us as a nation. When we lose precious birds to extinction from climate change and native forest logging, we lose a part of Australia.
#ClimateHungerStrike
I’m tired this evening but so pleased that my
#ClimateHungerStrike
is making international headlines. Thanks
@DailyMailUK
for getting the story out on how Australia, as the worlds third-largest fossil fuel exporter, needs to take responsibility.🙏🏽
Climate deniers, haters and trolls like telling stories about renewable energy destroying habitat.
But this is the reality. Renewables are mostly rolling out on previously cleared land, providing supplementary income to farmers and shade and grazing space for sheep and cattle.
My
#ClimateHungerStrike
seems to have got legs of its own! Shoalhaven Deputy Mayor Evan has been outside Parliament House since I went into hospital. And tomorrow someone else is coming to step in. They reckon they’ll take it to
#COP28
. I swung by and gave them my blackboard.
I admire Annette who came to find me today. She’s been arrested five times for non-violent
#ClimateAction
. In 2014 she bravely chained herself onto train tracks & blocked a dozen coal trains. She’s a member of Frontline Action on Coal.

The Royal National Park south of Sydney is an example of what much of coastal southeastern Australia was like before colonisation and deforestation.
It’s a reminder of why we must protect what’s left and end logging and land clearing.

My 5 climate action asks of
@AlboMP
and the Australian government — a thread 🧵
The answer to the nuclear question is simple: Australia doesn't need it.
Renewables are more cost-effective and commercially viable in meeting our energy needs.
Let's not fall victim to smokescreen tactics aimed at halting action for a safe climate. 👇🏽
Wind Energy had been used in Australia since the 1800s and the iconic Southern Cross windmills introduced in the 1870s still operate today. They transformed the outback providing water security.
I wonder if anyone at the time said they were ugly or wrecked the environment?
Good Morning Australia! It’s Day 2 of my

Ten years ago when I was Threatened Species Commissioner scientists advised me there were around 2,000 Swift parrots.
Now their numbers are only a quarter of that.
Time is well overdue to end native forest logging. The Federal Government must intervene if States won’t act.
🚨New research announced by the Australian National University found as few as 500 Swift Parrots are estimated to be left in the wild.
Help us save the Swift Parrot:

Golden bandicoots are rarer than diamonds. This one bit me back in 2014 and I still cherish the scar. They’ve been locally extinct in NSW. But they’re now they’re coming home thanks to the Wild Deserts Program in Sturt National Park.
Spent otherwise, Australia’s fossil fuel subsidies could fund construction of 23 new world-class hospitals each year. Instead our taxes are supporting cancerous air pollution and dangerous climate change. Fossil fuel subsidies must end.👇🏽
Day 13 and I’m not giving up on my
#ClimateHungerStrike
until my body does or
@AlboMP
commits to the actions needed for a safe future for Australia from climate change.

It’s gonna be hot today. But I’ve got a good set up under a beautiful gumtree right outside Parliament House. Please come down and say hello or sit with me for awhile. If I’m asleep, feel free to take a photo or a selfie and tag me.
#ClimateHungerStrike
Help me please!
@AlboMP
isn’t listening. I can’t even get through by the phone. Write to our PM. Tell Albo you care about climate change and need him to take more responsibility for a safe future for Australia.

This is a big deal.
Antarctica just experienced the largest jump in temperature ever recorded on Earth. A whopping 38.5 degrees Celsius.
The heat came from Australia!👇🏽
Remnant cabbage-tree rainforest on Darkinjung Country on the Central Coast of NSW. Most of this

has been displaced by housing estates, roads, coal mines and shopping centres. These last vestiges of Australian wilderness need genuine protection.
It’s raining in Canberra today. And I couldn’t wish that away from anyone. I’m bunkered down in my old canvas swag from Alice Springs. It’s leaking a bit. But I got this!

What is it with people who put dog poo in plastic bags and then leave it in nature?! I get it that dog poo is yucky. But at least it’s biodegradable. Plastic isn’t. 🐕💩
Peter Dutton and his mates don’t really want nuclear power.
They want political power.
And they think dividing, distracting and confusing Australians is the way to win it.
Sheikh Wesam Charkawi came to show me some love and compassion this morning. According to Islam, “The earth is God's creation, and as humans, we have been entrusted to preserve it as we found.”

Posting Bilby photos while approving 1.3 billion tonnes of extra coal mine emissions equal to the yearly emissions of 65 million Aussie families would be funny if it wasn’t so insulting, especially to our children.
With BYD launching its "Corolla killer”,

My favourite Canberra reptile has just been up-listed to ‘critically endangered’. The Grassland earless dragon is about to become extinct. Not because it isn’t tough - it lives in wolf spider holes! The problem is Australia’s continued habitat destruction. 😢
In devastating news, four species of Australian lizards, previously thought to be one species, have been added or uplisted to the ever-growing list of threatened species.
If I stand on this 2m termite mound, I can get two dots of 3G at my rural property 1 1/2 hrs from Canberra in the electorate of Hume held by Energy Minister
@AngusTaylorMP
. Imagine an Australia where climate denialists’ energy was channeled into rural infrastructure!
Surely we can do better than this Australia! 96 hectares of complete habitat annihilation occurring right now near Canberra. There’s not even a blade of grass left, let alone any habitat trees at so-called “Jumping Creek” outside Queanbeyan NSW.

Australia’s ski season officially starts this weekend. But there’s only grass and slush on the ski fields.
Only two of 78 lifts will be operating this weekend.

2. End coal and gas exports.
3. End native forest logging.
4. Consider climate impacts.
5. Be transparent in risks.

Here’s what’s really subsuming prime agricultural land in SA.
It’s not wind farms.
It’s new housing estates, like these on prime wheat and canola country.
If Barnaby Joyce and David Littleproud really cared about people in the Bush, they’d deal with this.
