Since @AdaniOnline is in the news - On #WetlandsDay a polite reminder that Adani has destroyed #wetlands in Queensland, Australia & #mangroves , creeks in Kutch & other parts of India. Mostly govts/investors have supported them & they've rarely been held to account. #Adaniscam

Those who say that it’s better to vaccinate people in low income countries rather than kids are ignoring the fact that wealthy countries have hoarded the vaccine in deeply selfish & criminal ways. Vaccinating kids & global vaccine equity are not mutually exclusive. 5/

(2) @TimothyWSchwab provides a great critique. Gates' focus on technocentric, top-down solutions doesn't address key issues at stake (e.g. vulnerability of the poor; overconsumption of the rich; social & env. justice). Gates' own contradictory lifestyle

To mark the dawn of a new era, Britain should consider returning the jewels, diamonds, marbles etc to different nations all over the globe & also redefine the nature of the Commonwealth.

Last week's peace agreement to end the 2 year war on #Tigray is encouraging but there are still many questions & doubts. @TeklehaymanotG & I outline in this @IDS_UK piece what international donors & actors (incl. UK) need to do to end hostilities & ensure peace & accountability

It's 2 yrs since the #TigrayWar started and a peace agreement has been signed, but there are many doubts about it succeeding. @Lylamehta & @TeklehaymanotG outline recommendations for the international community to act on now 👇

Narmada project revisionism by mainstream journalists. Maybe millions have benefitted, but how many millions have been left out? Couldn’t drinking water have reached Kutch & Saurashtra through other alternative means that were less socially & environmentally damaging? 1/

India sinks to a new low today. Professor Filippo Osella, University of Sussex anthropologist, is deported with no reasons cited. #UmarKhalid , one of India's brightest & most committed scholars & human rights defenders, is denied bail & continues to languish in jail.

Despite the war my amazing colleague Dr Kifle Woldearegay from #Mekelle #Tigray persisted with @BrownGold_GCRF research. Read about the urban agriculture boom despite war, blockade & @WFP food aid suspension & what this means for the circular economy.

(4) at one level but should be challenged. Sustainable & ethical animal husbandry are important for biodiversity & health & can't be replaced by monocropping & lab foods. Instead attention should be on creating viable agro-pastoral systems which sustain livelihoods & ecosystems

Today #Mexico has elected its first woman Jewish President who's left-wing & a climate scientist. Let's celebrate becoz tomorrow (unless exist polls are v off) #India will give a man his 3rd term despite faking degrees, overseeing pogroms, & spewing hate & far-right agendas.

While many may believe that things are normalising in #Tigray due to #Pretoria agreement, in reality 50% of the pop. in dire need of food & essential supplies with Eritreans forces still at large unleashing violent acts. Need stronger action from @_AfricanUnion @UNOCHA @WFP etc

A de facto blockade in force in Tigray. Reports of "improving access" misleading. Half of Tigray inaccessible or with erratic access. UN agencies can only reach 16% of those in need of food aid in Tigray. Ony two of supply routes work. Lengthy blocks of aid to Tigray routine.

The war was horrific. Now 2 million people are at risk of starvation across #Tigray @WFP & @USAID also suspended supplies, causing a further humanitarian crisis with millions in need of food aid. Ethiopia's Tigray region ravaged by deadly #famine

There's been a govt sponsored siege of 7 million people in #Tigray & 21 mth communication blockade. It's ironic that @antonioguterres @UN plan a high-level Internet Governance Forum in #Ethiopia . Will @intgovforum condemn internet shutdown in #Tigray , #Kashmir etc? @UNGeneva

The irony! There is an ongoing genocide and a 2 years-long communication shutdown in a region of more than 7 million people, #Tigray . In what seems like a reward, the @UN is planning to hold its "Internet Governance Forum" in #Ethiopia . @intgovforum , @accessnow

There are often irregularities in humanitarian efforts. But for donors (US, UK etc) to stop support & let innocent civilians starve & face the slaughter is unconscionable. We saw this in #Tigray when @USAID @WFP suspended operations due to 'corruption' & now in #Gaza #UNRWA

The UK, Italy & Finland join the cruelty squad and suspend funding to UNRWA, the largest humanitarian org in Gaza! They know what this means. They know this means that the epic humanitarian catastrophe Israel caused in Gaza will only get worse thanks to their actions.

Sadly the African Union, EU, US, UK are back to ‘business as usual’ with Ethiopia. @TeklehaymanotG & I write that without a firm commitment to accountability & reconciliation, prospects of post-war rehabilitation, justice for #Tigray & sustainable peace in Ethiopia look bleak.
