Painstakingly recreated the opening page of chapter 418 of My Hero Academia - learning how I can achieve the same results with the tools I have. Done in CSP EX 1.13.2 with free and default brushes, at 600 DPI.

I feel the need to point this out, but this applies exclusively to indie manga made in English from the ground up! Anyone doing translation work has it much harder and can only do so much while maintaining authorial intent. There's only so much that can be done.

I'm not sure if anyone ever noticed this really small detail (there's a lot of particles flying around in these panels), but Kisaru is actually breaking the paneling when she raises her leg up for an axe kick.

@RaptureBurgers While this is true, it's not representative of what I'd even consider well written dialogue (specifically in regards to what you pointed out). More to illustrate the point that removing a few words, and rearranging the format, will do wonders for readability and flow in manga.

Manga is a term that used to just mean comics, but over time the term has evolved to have distinct characteristics associated with it. Story structure, tropes, art style, and format. You do not need to be Japanese, learn Japanese, or learn their culture to adapt these concepts.

Naruto was originally why I started getting into manga, wanting to make it. However, Kishimoto was greatly inspired by Toriyama -- many of our greatest inspirations were. It's safe to say that were it not for Toriyama, Kishimoto, and as a result I, would not be doing this.

Something I always found funny in retrospect is that these books don't actually teach you how to draw manga. There's nothing in there about paneling, tones, contrast, composition, page flow. If kid me didn't eat it up though hahaha, I remember being glued to this thing!

Something I appreciate about these little bits of insight is the humility included in them. It makes me less self conscious about my writing process, and feel as though there’s no “perfect” way to do things. Even for respective legends of the craft.

I feel like I'm gonna go insane if I have to read "what if the character speaks wordy" or "there's issues with the given examples dialogue" again. Writing good dialogue and formatting your text are 2 different things, and something can be wordy but still be formatted well. OTL
