"Bitcoin → Litecoin → Luckycoin → Bells → Doge is the lineage." - Billy Markus, creator of Dogecoin
Luckycoin, created in May 2013 by an unknown developer, is the blockchain both Bells and Dogecoin were forked from
Let's dive into its story and how we revived it in 2024 👇

Dogecoin is a fork of Luckycoin!
"Dogecoin was originally a fork of a cryptocurrency called Luckycoin - itself a fork of Litecoin. Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin with Jackson Palmer, acted as a solo developer for the first Dogecoin Core releases."
Just like Satoshi Nakamoto did with

This $LKY block was mined on May 22nd 2013 and forms the basis of the chain revived in August 2024
In November 2013 Luckycoin was a top 30 cryptocurrency, as shared by

Now, in October 2024, Luckycoin has been revived and those blocks that were mined in 2013 are part of the same chain being mined today!

A blockchain's provenance resides in it's blocks
Not the clients that interact with those blocks
Luckycoin was revived from block 81,743, mined November 25th 2013
Doing so ensures as much of Luckycoin's original legacy is preserved to this day as possible

Forked by Billy Markus in 2013, Luckycoin became the direct predecessor to Dogecoin, spawning what is now the most famous memecoin in cryptocurrency history

Legendary Bitcoin Talk user nutildah gives an opinion on the Luckycoin revival
Day 4: Its one of the oldest "memecoins" still functioning
Day 45: My final conclusion about this coin is that its relaunch is a relatively valiant attempt compared to everything else in its category
Less than 20% of LuckyCoin's supply has been active in 2024
The other 80% is either yet to be mined or was mined in 2013 and has remained untouched since

The Luckycoin genesis block dates all the way back to May 2013
11 years later we revived the chain from an old backup we found, for the culture
This makes Luckycoin one of the oldest actively mined chains in existence today
Being Dogecoin's predecessor, LuckyCoin's original 2013 client was very outdated
To mitigate risks, our volunteer developer community chose to use open-source software built and maintained by countless contributors during LuckyCoin's 11-year hiatus as a basis going forward 🍀
The first Luckycoin halving is here

r/dogecoin Fact of the Day June 2nd 2015:
Dogecoin was forked from Luckycoin's source code, not Litecoin's, although Luckycoin was of course based on Litecoin.
"Dogecoin was originally a fork of a cryptocurrency called Luckycoin - itself a fork of Litecoin. Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin with Jackson Palmer, acted as a solo developer for the first Dogecoin Core releases." -
81,743 of the current 134,113 Luckycoin blocks were mined in 2013
Reviving Luckycoin from the longest chain available ensures as much provenance and historic value is retained as possible as we continue Luckycoin's legacy in 2024 🍀
LuckyCoin bridged an 11-year gap, with block 81744 mined last month, following block 81743 from 2013
The restoration of this historic blockchain is a unique step in cultural crypto preservation and reminds us that nothing is truly lost, only waiting to be rediscovered
We're running the exact same chain that was running when Billy Markus forked Luckycoin to create Dogecoin in 2013
$LKY is an opportunity 11 years in the making
The Luckycoin genesis block dates back to May 2013
That very same block forms the basis of the chain being mined today!
That means Luckycoin is older than:
The Silk Road shutdown
Dogecoin
The Mt. Gox collapse
The term 'HODL'
The first NFTs
Tether (USDT)
and Ethereum
Luckycoin was one of the earliest coins to introduce the concept of "getting lucky" in crypto
Miners could randomly hit 'Lucky Blocks', earning up to 58x the normal rewards
$LKY was announced as 'Fast, Fun and Fair'
Although LuckyC was never heard from again this was far from the end of LuckyCoin's story as one of the oldest coins in existence
But that's a story for another day...
For now let's celebrate the achievements of LuckyC and honour their historic creation by giving it new life 🍀
Though it fell silent for a long time, the spirit of Luckycoin was never forgotten
We've now revived the once-dormant chain, bringing it back to life and helping it reclaim its place as a historic cryptocurrency
Luckycoin is back, and it's ready to shine again!
Get Lucky 🍀
On May 22nd 2013 a user by the name of LuckyC signed up to the Bitcoin Talk forum
Back in 2013 Bitcoin Talk was the cryptocurrency town square where Bitcoin and all altcoins were discussed
It's where Litecoin, Namecoin and even Ethereum announced their launches
Once LuckyC was able to post threads they shared their LuckyCoin announcement with the title:
[ANN] LuckyCoin LKY | Lucky Blocks | Fast | Fun | Fair
This announcement came after the genesis block creation but before any blocks were mined
Clearly LuckyC was a knowledgable dev
Feeling lucky punk? No? Well you should!
LuckyCoin offers super lucky blocks, where your reward can be x2 ,x5 and even x58! That's not the best part though. The best part is we've designed this coin with fairness in mind...
The final ever post from LuckyC is a new thread posted 20 hours after mining began
The thread offered LuckyCoins to anyone who posted their address
Even though LuckyC never posted again these gifted coins transactions are verifiable onchain to this day
But what happened next?
Anticipation grew as people waited to be able to mine LuckyCoin
Mining pools began to spring up and competition for attention grew
People were excited at the opportunity to mine a block and receive 5888 $LKY thanks to LuckyCoin's exciting Lucky Blocks technology
LuckyC's first ever post was requesting access to create a thread
They were clearly excited to share LuckyCoin with the world but the Bitcoin Talk forums require a certain level of activity before users can create threads
Notice the use of 'we'...
Was LuckyC a collective? 🧐
With the announcement made but no client available users were quick to question whether the coin was premined or not
LuckyC responded, clearly stating they weren't premining the coin ahead of launch
All that was left to do now was to launch the client
But Luckycoin wasn't just about fun & games
It introduced a fair launch with an accelerated difficulty adjustment, ensuring no one could dominate the network, a major issue at the time
It was a true pioneer, blending innovation with fun before most others had even considered it
LuckyCoin bridged an 11-year gap, with block 81744 mined last month, following block 81743 from 2013
The restoration of this historic blockchain is a unique step in cultural crypto preservation and reminds us that nothing is truly lost, only waiting to be rediscovered
Around 22 hours after the thread was made the client was released and people were able to mine LuckyCoin
A mix of excitement and confusion ensued as people tried to hastily secure their LuckyCoins
More pools launched as competition and interest in LuckyCoin grew
"...why was there a decision to fork Luckycoin which was itself a fork of Litecoin, which itself is a fork of Bitcoin? That's because Luckycoin had this whole notion of random block rewards built in."
Luckycoin $LKY should ONLY be mined to earn luck, not for monetary value 🍀
We welcome everyone to play around and try for a lucky block, but do not use $LKY for investment purposes! 🍀
May 22, 2013, 12:16 a.m. EDT: Japan\x92s Nikkei Stock Average JP:NIK +1.77%, which ended at their highest level in more than five years in each of the last three trading sessions, climbed a further 1.2% Wednesday
Once the dust settled sentiment on the launch was very positive
Users appreciated the accelerated difficulty adjustment algorithm which thwarted high-hash botnets, a common threat at the time
LuckyC remained silent, presumably observing the excitement around their creation
