If teaching is such an easy job and we are so well paid for it with far too many holidays (as many people are trying to tell me) then why is it we have a very serious recruitment and retention crisis in the profession?
I’m really sick of the media referring to ‘the unions’ as if they are a separate entity to the millions of working people that they represent. ‘The unions’ are not orchestrating strikes, workers are standing up and fighting to save the services they provide.
It took me 8 years to train as a teacher. I love my job. Over the last 12 years I have lost more than 20% in my real terms pay and my job has become near to impossible due to lack of funding. I voted yes to take action in order to fight for the future of education.
Today I take on the biggest role and the very biggest honour of my life as NEU national president just as we enter the biggest set of strike ballots in education for a generation.

This compilation of what Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has said about independent pay review bodies will cause anger & outrage amongst teachers across the country
UK news shows need to step up & expose this latest outrageous Government CON against our public sector workers
Experienced teachers have had below inflation pay rises for 10 out of the last 13 years. That’s why we are balloting our members over pay and funding.✅ Vote yes in the
@NEUnion
ballot today!
Two of the most hardworking, dedicated people in the movement. They were both in talks via Teams while on holiday and were ready to attend any face to face meetings.
Whatever our ballot results are on Monday I want to say a huge thank you to every member of staff, officer, activist and member who have all absolutely worked their socks off to stand up for the future of education. Proud to be
@NEUnion
It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to serve as
@NEUnion
president this year. I’ve met some amazing people, all fighting for better for education. We have much more to do, on pay, on funding, on workload, assessment and Ofsted. we are
@NEUnion
!
@daveboa
I did my degree part time with the OU while working as a TA and in a bar while bringing up 2 very small children. I really wanted to be a teacher! I still do but I’m also ready to fight for better for education, for me, my family and for my students.
Mick Lynch says the government’s U-turn on ticket office closures is “a resounding victory” for the
@rmtunion
campaign and “a victory for passengers, community groups and rail workers alike.”
750,000 people responded to the consultation - the biggest response in British history.
Why on earth is
@GillianKeegan
not listening to headteachers and their analysis of their own budgets? She either just doesn’t understand or is deliberately trying to mislead the public.

@GillianKeegan
No…
Education Secretary

confirms that the funding needed for teacher’s pay rises will not cut into the school services budget

Once again I am calling on the NEU to accept our serious offer to call off planned strike action and engage in talks on all areas of this dispute including pay.
These are exactly the same terms accepted by the unions representing nurses, ambulance staff and physiotherapists.
Fabulous to see so many reps meetings today planning for action. Hundreds of thousands of educators have joined NEU to get involved in our pay up campaign and action. We are NEU!
Teachers make the best placards! Hoping to see many more among the hundreds of
@NEUnion
members from the East Midlands on our

march and rally in London on Wednesday 15th March.

Meetings done, out of office on, I’m off on a holiday for a bit of me time before I take on the biggest role of my life - leading our union during our first ever ballot for industrial action over pay. ☀️
Today’s
#avanti
shambles excuses include: fire beside the track, failed points at Euston, fault on the train and lack of train crew. After 2 hours waiting, 2 cancelled trains and now a change at Crew I’m finally on the road. Invest in rail! Nationalise now!
Off to London for
@NEUnion
executive then our support staff conference. Train only slightly delayed, I do have a seat but there’s no heating in the carriage. Joy!
Thank you
@MaryWBousted
for everything you’ve done forming and building
@NEUnion
to the powerful voice for education it is today. It has been such a blessing and inspiration to work with you. Enjoy a well earned rest.

Bubbles closing everywhere, thousands of children at home, spreading like wildfire through schools which also means through families and communities but

It was an honour to talk technology, transformation and education at

Our schools, colleges and universities can be the beacon that inspires innovation and prepares our young people for the jobs of the future.

members. Two support the workers, and the third wants more govt intervention!
Appalling. You can’t have the money our advisor says you need but the reason he resigned is because’the teaching unions’ won’t agree to something we are currently reviewing to see if it’s required. Appalling.
"The same people who are attacking us... are the teaching unions who resisted the idea of extending the school day in the first place"
Responding to Sir Kevan Collins' resignation,

I am so very cross about this. Not only is it a safeguarding issue it’s illegal. Again
@Ofstednews
shows they are completely out of touch with education and why they are unfit for purpose.

My blue envelope has arrived. I have NEVER voted for action or been on strike. The fact that I am voting yes and yes makes me incredibly sad but doing anything else would be letting my community down. Also means the likelihood of being abused by keyboard warriors is high
Utterly exhausted. Book looks, lesson drop ins, subject leadership requirements, displays, pupil reports, along with teaching a lovely but difficult class with no support. Never tell me teachers get too many holidays-they are catch up/recovery time.
.
@GillianKeegan
– you need to act to make teaching an attractive profession.
Show school staff you value them, publish the STRB report, come back to talks with
@NEUnion
to resolve our dispute and offer a fully funded, above-inflation pay rise.

4.2 million children in the UK are growing up in poverty. That's 29% of children or 9 in a classroom of 30.
Any political project that claims to offer hope must prioritise tackling child poverty.
