I am opening up a form for applications for a TTRPG book club named Our TTRPG Book Club, or R.B.C. for short.
Below is a form you will need to fill out and I will review them one at a time for my own sanity. Right now, it's just a one-man team.
See you on the other side.
I want to set up a TTRPG book club. We read a book a month and discuss what we liked and what we didn't like, talk about who we think the game is for, and possibly even set up one-shots for people interested in GMing it.
No promises on this, but I'm putting in the groundwork.
Hey, just as a treat for me could you all not participate in any bi-erasure? Especially during Pride?
I'm a bisexual man in a relationship with a bisexual women. That does not make us straight just because our relationship is het.
That's not how bisexuality works.
I am going to be 100% honest here, WotC invoked one of the worst things I can imagine a corpo to do. They sent the Pinkerton's to a man's door.
While the events for him are over and he seems to be fine, I can't imagine a more scummy thing than calling in a Pinkerton.
1/4
I saw someone express how prerecorded actual plays are not as popular as live streamed shows and all I can think of is how D20 and Critical Role, two of THE actual play shows are both prerecorded.
I want modern
#dnd
. I want to cast spells and shot guns. I want trolls who drive Ubers and angels who work at public libraries. I want to tell a story about turning to a vampire and now you take night classes.
Yes, I know other games exist, but sunk cost fallacy and junk.
The more I think about it the more I hate that expected reward for clearing a dungeon in DnD is gold, gems, and valuable art. You are effectively looting the lost artifacts and cultural items from a long dead kingdom that peoples likely survive to this day.
WotC chose the union busting attack dogs of America's bloody past to target a single man.
I implore people, especially influencers, to look at them and really think. Is this the company I want to roll with? Is this acceptable? Can I comfortably support these actions?

So Saltine Bird is trying to make her way back into the TTRPG space and you know I am going to make as much noise about her abusive ass as I can. Some of y'all weren't here during the summer and some of you might have forgot.
I honestly stopped seeing the luster for WotC after Spelljammer. Hadozee aside, the choice of putting all the information into three small books is highly questionable for quality alone. Let alone the strain it must have put on the teams working on it.
2/4
I have slowly accepted that my players have gone from calling me Dungeon Master, to Game Dad, and now to Dungeon Daddy.
This is not how I expected things to go but honestly I am not surprised.
OK, hear me out.
A concept for afair way to do races in your DnDs.
From a bi-racial guy tired of dealing with the concept for years and feeling like we have been running with a failed premise for over 50 years of game play.
Hold onto your butts kids.
🧵/
Apparently the hadozee lore has been updated on DnD Beyond to remove the racist parallels in it. Heck, they fixed the glide mechanic.
This is good but I would love to have not learned this from a YouTube video and instead an announcement from WOTC that they recognized the issue.
Can I please have more anime and rpgs where the cast are all adults? I am getting older but my protagonist just keep staying 14-17. I just want more tired men and women just trying their damn best out there.
I dislike XP in TTRPGs because it creates a video game like system that the players are trying to shoot for more points vs more meaningful change. If you can pull off a heist without notifying anyone you should be rewarded as much as clearing a dungeon and slaying the dragon.
Hey,
#dnd
, how long do you take to build your character? Hours? Days!? Weeks!? The minute before session 1!?
Just curious, asking for a friend.
I'm the friend.
As someone who designs DnD homebrew I am really taken aback that Magic Missile looks at all the other rules for magic and just says no thank you, I just work.
It's funny to me the takes on the
#DnDMovie
trailer has been either:
1. This is ridiculous, I love it!
2. This is ridiculous, I hate it!
3. Owlbears are monstrosities!
4. I hate DnD!
5. I hate DnD 5e!
6. Wait, she's a tiefling?
From a marketing point of view, it did it's job.
Salty Bird posted on her Instagram this weekend and would like you all to know she's done apologizing publicly (which she never did), that everyone she owes money to got paid (which they didn't), and that she is ready to move on and join the TTRPG community again (we are not).
Hey
#dnd
DMs and players, how do you feel if a monster had multiple hit point pools? Like a giant that had a pool for each limb, the head, and torso? Would it work?
I personally think it could be done, just give the head really high AC and only takes half damage on dex saves.
From a biological point of view, since elves and orcs can have children with humans in DnD and those children can have children, all three should just be the same species.
Just food for thought when building your adventures around some natural hate between "races" in your games.
If the sudden raise of willful ignorance and racism on your Twitter TL makes you second guess TTRPGS and the TTRPG community it's because those people who are making you question it don't want you in the hobby. My advice is to fall more in love with the hobby, out of spite.
I think if you wanted to play in a Dungeon Meshi style TTRPG you can't do it properly without a cooking mechanic. Like you can do dungeon crawls and monster hunting with hundreds of games, but you should also be tracking ingredients, how they can be used, and how to prepare them.
Quickly, while everyone else is at Gen Con, what's your TTRPG hot take?
Mine is that the OGL incident didn't do enough to radicalize the TTRPG space into trying new and different games and we all become too comfortable with going back to WotC.
1. Get rid of the word race! Just stop it. Ancestry, heritage, legacy, I don't care, just something different.
2. Create a point system. All characters start with the same # of points and abilities are weighed based on mechanical benefit.
/
Personally, I have chosen to use the word people when referring to fantasy or sci-fi "races" in TTRPGs. Humans call eachother people, why wouldn't elves, klingons, etc. do the same?
I don't choose a "race", I choose a people.
If I caused some drama over the weekend by doing things like saying there is racism in DnD still and we can fix it, offering a possible solution via modular character creation, or just existing please just know I am not sorry.
I think the irony of TTRPG Twitter is that everyone assumes we only want to play DnD when in reality we are itching to play different games.
We just need people to run them. That's nothing clever, we just don't have the GMs.
The reality of the D20 live tickets being 2K+ due to dynamic pricing is not the fault of the cast or crew that are putting on the show.
But damn, knowing the general moral/ethical/philosophical lessons of their games, this is kind of hilarious.
@epicdndmemes
I run the False Hydra semi-regularly. My secret to suspense is to play a constant white noise from my laptop or a speaker, slowly raising the volume when they get closer to it. Once it's found I cut the sound and the players realize how accustom they had become to the white noise
So it's happened, I now have 100 followers. Hi everyone, let me introduce myself.
So my name is Logan. I am biracial (black and white), bisexual, and I am currently trying to dip my toes into the
#ttrpg
scene. Please forgive me as I stumble my way through.
Kobold Press and MCDM are doing their own thing. Other creators are exploring other games or even creating their own as well.
It doesn't matter what WotC does at this point, people are moving on. We went from oversaturation of a market to its death knell in less than a month.
Just had a
#dnd
monster idea. A creature able to manipulate the weave of magic so well it can raise the cost of casting spells by one spell slots. All 1st level spells cost a 2nd level spell slot and 2nd level a 3rd. This is true for all levels but 9th.
Bioessentialism? On a Monday!?
My takes should be obvious. The evil race trope is lazy writing that relies on real racial stereotypes due to, while being fantasy, needing to be anchored in real beliefs to be relatable.
Your stories should have evil people, but not evil races.
What do you guys think of a pure evil race? Like DnD’s drow or warhammer’s dark Eldar, or fantasy’s beastmen ,LOTR orcs etc.
Do you guys think they are helpful narratively? Or just think that they might be too one dimensional?
Allow me to have a nuanced take about the removal of half-races/species from DnD. Please 🙏🏾
Due to various visual, health, and historic reasons, I am never referred to as half-white. Just black. Mixed folks often get lumped into the minority group they share ancestry with.
1/8
Bees would have to be a fey based fantasy race, right? Like say I am making bee people for
#DnD
and was trying to explain why they are more people than just giant bees? Fey, right?
Please validate my logic so I can move on with it.
I hope BG3 makes DMs realize magical items should be everywhere in a typical DnD adventure. You should be finding rings that cast spells once per day, +1 armor should be in some dead noble's closet, and lost holy swords that belonged to a long forgotten cult.
DMs be too stingy.
3. Create an archetype system for body type. Not skinny or fat, but elvish, gnomish, etc. These archetypes use the fantasy elements and allow you to spend your points to be the elfyist elf or whatever. Mixed characters just take on whatever abilities they want from wherever.

Tired of seeing things called Ghibli-esque when Ghibli has movies like My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies.
If you see both of those films and think they somehow relate the same feelings, I have to question your media literacy.
Ghibli is a studio, not an adjective.
This season of Wheelchair Discourse has changed! Instead of saying disabled people should not be adventurers, they totally can be!
But only if the aids they use meet some kind of unknowable threshold of cool and ✨vibes✨.
So you better have a spider legged chair or some shit.
I think why the 4e vs any other edition split exists is 4e finally asked the PCs to put in as much effort in the game as the DM is expected to.
All the while making the game easier for DMs.
I have been watching Delicious in Dungeon and now I crave TTRPG with mechanics that separate dungeon exploration and home life.
Like if you dive into a monster filled hole and come out in one piece it's unlikely you want to keep swinging your sword everyday.
1/6
So I really like making and mix cocktails so I so disappointed that
#dnd
is so basic when it comes to alcoholic drinks. Have you ever created a drink for your games? Not even a potion, just having special ingredients for a drink?
As a bi man in a relationship with a with a bi woman, fuck off.
The use of the word partner is not to denote queerness, it's to denote that a relationship is about working together.
I understand its history and how it originally was used, but get over yourself. Words change.
Are you are asking yourself why BIPOC creators in the TTRPG AP space do BIPOC only casting calls?
There are a lot of reason but probably the reason I look for them is because I want to experience stories that can only be told with this type of table.
That's my tweet btw, no need to hide my name. It's pure chance I saw this but it's a strange feeling.
Guess somethings I say are just not everyone's cup of tea, or whatever. I will just keep doing what I'm doing since I don't think I hurt anyone doing it.
Dudes will demand the entire industry cater to the already monopolistic company to and say with a straight face "you're correct, I am a WotC goblin, give me my treats"
I did not consent to this kind of violence this early in the morning
I am going to stop talking about BG3 cause I got something cooking, but I will leave it with this.
Any time the topic of fantasy racism comes up we inevitably have to face those that view racism as natural and a world without it would be strange and alien.
That makes me sad.
Thanks for all the love and support for this Tweet! I am just a bi guy who wanted to do a PSA before Pride started so this really warms my heart. But now there's a lot of notifications coming my way.
I am going to mute this tweet for me but I will keep checking in on it.
4. Turn left over points into extra ASI. That way your meta gamers can maximize and newbies unsure of what to do can just make fighter mcfoghterton easily enough.
5. You get one extra language and it's up to the players choice. Nothing else.
/
I may be ignorant but I feel like there are not enough TTRPGS about being dino people. Not lizard or dragon people, dinosaurs.
I want to be a triceratops man!
I feel like yt people might understand BIPOC perspectives of why we hate the racist stereotypes of DnD if we said shit like "of course white people can't be trusted, they are all slavers you know. It's just who they are, they have an evil god forcing them to be that way.'
This is messy and not planned well but I feel better with the premise than what has existed and what has been presented to me. I know it pulls back the layers of what makes the races unique, it's not perfect but it can work for classic games and new agey games.
/
So I want to talk about something as a homebrew designer I hate about DnD. Save or suck.
It's the idea that when you have a spell or ability that requires a saving throw there is a chance that nothing, absolutely nothing, happens.
1/6
As much as I understand how hard it is to convince people to play other games besides the same one they have played for 5+ years I can confirm moving my table away from just Dungeon and Dragons has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Anyone ever want to play in a
#TTRPG
set in a prehistoric setting? Like no one can read or write, magic is only known by religious leaders or those chosen by the gods, survival is never certain.
Am I the only one that wonders what the
#TTRPG
scene is like in other countries? I know people play but what are they playing? Does
#dnd
dominant the scene in Japan? Is South Africa really into some indie game made down there? Anyone got insight?
Link comes from an age of silent protagonists who the player is meant to push their ego directly onto.
Link is man, woman, NB, fluid, straight, gay, bi, ace, masc, femme, and so on.
Link is an idea, something that changes to tell whatever story the devs and players want.
Jesus fucking Christ
Just stop with this bullshit
No, Link isn't trans anything. He's not non-binary, he's not gender fluid/gender queer. He's not some fucked up neopronoun
He's a man. A heterosexual man & your pathological need to make everything queer is pathetic
Fuck. Off
Just a reminder that Bugbears are somehow big bois, sneaky bois, long limbed bois, and super deadly bois all wrapped up in a big hairy package. Use them in you games, play them in your games. We need more Bugbears.
So the weebs who can't imagine a woman purpose not being a sexual object can maybe understand this.
Hestia is a goddess of the hearth and flame, which of these two designs translates any of that better? The one with coals on her head or the one with weird underboob ribbons?
You know algorithms have been proven to have racial bias? That's because the users who feed it information also feed it their bias.
Normally its more subtle than calling a Romen emperor looking guy a proper Buddha.
The thesis, you ignorant fuck, isn't that we associate orcs with real peoples.
It's that we constantly see orcs recontextualized under the lens of racist allegory. For many of us (re: marginalized people) we recognize ignorance and hate on sight thanks to experience.
If anyone wants my advice when you see this, don't interact and just report.
My old web forum moderator brain just knows these assholes want to start a fight. It's not worth your mental energy, let alone typing out a response.
In a weird way, we need TTRPGS to become more like video games.
Diverse gameplay, diverse genres, old games that become cult classics.
And money. The TTRPG space needs money.
(Help us, people are starving and going homeless in this capitalist hellscape)
1/2
Me sitting in my office working my day job: This really interferes with me playing TTRPGs.
Me looking at my paycheck: This really helps me play TTRPGs.
Oh the dilemma.
The last 24 hours have been a weird ride for me.
Apparently wanting to have fun while playing DnD is controversial, there are still racist assholes in the TTRPG space (not surprised), and we had a minor emergency at work
Excuse me while go and yell for a bit.
As a treat.
I've DM'd
#dnd5e
for 7+ years now. I still have not memorized all the rules and will carry the core three books with me to all my games.
I also have cheat sheets, websites bookmarked, and my players as resources. You don't have to be perfect to run this game.
Hey
#dnd
Twitter, are there guns in your game or no?
Personally I love the idea of them, just not the idea of them being very common. A few gnomish tinkerers may have it figured out, but that's it. Magic just does not make them a priority and they are hard to manufacture.
I am so happy we are finally reaching the lifecycle of TTRPGs where we look at an edition of a game that was scorned and now admit “you know? It wasn’t half bad”
I’m here for you, 4th Ed D&D lovers
I wonder how many of us in the TTRPG space have a theatre background.
It might not surprise some of you to know I have a minor in technical theatre. Lights and costumes.
My only advice for cis men, myself included, is be ready to take action. Be ready to be a shoulder to cry on. Be ready to drive across the country to get a loved one to another state. Be ready to march down your streets and proclaim loudly this is awful. This is not about us.
As much as DnD has been dunked on for the last few weeks for various reasons I would like to praise the streamers, writers, artist, and so on that have built a community for themselves off the game. No game is perfect but the community it has created is near and dear to my heart.
It's not just that the concept of orcs being evil is a thin veil to enact fantasy racism gleefully and without fear of real backlash from criticism of your lame fantasy world, it's just shitty world building.
1/2
I know Choas' new appearance is a bit controversial since they went from weird eldritch being to a androgynous pretty person in a suit but I noticed they keep referring to everything as an experiment now and it's giving real Dr. Monroe vibes to me. I kind of dig that.
So I am trying to figure out the best method of terrifying my players in our next one-shot. The thing is I want the BBEG to be an angel. Anyone got some scary angel stories?
I wonder if it's how I came to be a DM or if it's generational but I find myself not caring about the new or old settings from
#DnD
. Like they seem interesting and I am sure the lore is great, but I just love brewing my own world and setting more.
As the next edition of DnD is soon upon us I urge everyone who finds themselves unsatisfied not to bother "fixing" it with homebrew or clones. There are plenty of generic fantasy dungeon crawls out there, heck 5e still exist, we don't need another one.
I noticed I have attracted some negative attention as of late. I have seen an influx of emails telling me fun things like I'm gay (thank you for noticing) and that I am going to hell.
Excuse me while I double down on my I don't give a shit what strangers think of me arc.
Tips from a DM to a player of
#dnd
.
Look for a cool magic item. Then tell your DM that you want that magic item. Give them a chance to craft a story of who has it or where it could be found.
Half our job as storytellers is figuring out what story to tell, this makes it easy.
For a refresher on the whole shit show, check out this website below which links to context and testimonials regarding Satine, Jamison, and Apotheosis Studios and how this fiasco has hurt so many people.
To clarify, I don't actually care that D20 is using DnD. If it works, it works. I just understand the cultural impact of this show.
When Aabria ran Misfits and Magic my local game store could not keep it on the shelves.
D20 impacts more than the online space.
Oh cool, the new Dimension 20 trailer is out!
Oh, it's DnD again. And it seems to be in a setting that does not play to its strengths at all.
I'm tired.
I want a game that both fulfills my power fantasy of righting the wrongs of society and lets me be a scary monster. Like I want to be Batman but instead of being a millionaire playboy I am a werewolf who lives in shitty apartment with three roommates who are also monsters.
I want to set up a TTRPG book club. We read a book a month and discuss what we liked and what we didn't like, talk about who we think the game is for, and possibly even set up one-shots for people interested in GMing it.
No promises on this, but I'm putting in the groundwork.
Wizard did the thing! I am actually happy they apologized and acted quickly. As much as I know people were upset by it I also could see nothing happening. Hopefully the lesson learned here is to hire sensitivity readers and that maybe they need more time for their products.
Anyone run 1-on-1 gaming sessions when they play a
#TTRPG
? I have done it a few times for
#dnd
and the results are really great. The players can actually feel like the main character without taking the spotlight and as a DM I can focus the story. Anyone else do this?
Let's address this argument ignorant people love to say ad nauseam as if they are making some kind of point.
First off, don't interact with this fool. Take this old bit of Internet knowledge; don't feed the troll, don't start a flame war. You don't get paid for this shit.

Bisexual is when you kiss all people at all times yes?
No, that's just silly.
Are you straight or gay only when you are in a relationship? No? Good, you figured it out.
Anyone ever get that feeling that you are missing part of Twitter? Like every day I see someone in the

People, tell me who are all the cool folks I NEED to know about. No matter how big, no matter how small, shout them all out.
